Twitch wants video brodcasting to be standard in your MMO experience.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/14/13 8:32:42 AM
As someone who is relatively new to casting on Twitch, I've got to agree that it is incredibly difficult to break into viewiership. I've been streaming every day this year and I still only get like 5-10 repeate viewers who come every day. Just having that small community makes gaming a bit more fun though. It gives you something to do in downtime as you can just chat with people (thought with a small delay).
I think game companies including Twitch casting as an OPTION is a great thing for casting in general. If casting was viewed more similarly to TV, more people would keep it running in the background. Good for casters, good for gamers. It would be nice if professional gaming (sc2, lol, etc) were seen as a more legitimiate career option similar to sports. Just my thoughts.

Best sandbox game ever = Ultima Online
Britannia Tavern (General) « Ultima Online 1/01/13 12:18:12 AM
To act like UO combat wasn't awesome is just silly. (pre noto patch)
1) Field of View Let's start at the beginning. The view used in the game. UO used a 3/4 view which allowed players to see any player who was capable of attacking them. You couldn't sneak up behind someone (without sneaking/hiding skills) and ambush them (thus determining the end result of the battle before it began).
2) Precasting Precasting allowed a more strategic flow to combat based on reading your opponents moves and reacting accordingly. It also allowed a person to prep a heal in preparation for a combo being landed. Group fighting was heavily coordinated and a difference in the ability to time your spells would lose you the battle, as it should.
3) Magery system The magic system in UO allowed for a fairly skill-based (strategy, timing) back and forth during battles between even skilled opponents. The battle could swing either way until someone swung home their advantage into the kill.
4) Full loot Dying had consequences. As such, combat had consequences, typically making it a more intense experience. Side Note: even looting was something of a mini game with the most manually dextrous players getting the most loot.
5) Thievery The thievery system in UO, though not THAT useful in combat, was amazingly fun. There was nothing more hilarious then stealing a mages regs and watching them just stand there as they figure out that they are now screwed.
Don't get me wrong. I don't play UO anymore but the game they call UO is not much like the versions I played and enjoyed. There's probably a bit of nostalgia affecting my opinion but the aforementioned are straight up facts, JACK!
Is UO the best game at being a sandbox or just the best game that had sandbox qualities, I dunno...but it sure was fun while it lasted. :P

For those of you suggesting I look inside myself, the posts show up on the main www.mmorpg.com page when people respond. I saw one and clicked it, wondering what kind of drama was surrounding SV now. Upon clicking, I saw very familiar names from two years ago. This made me question the motivation behind those actions so I asked. The immediate assumption that it bothers me shows alot about your method of drawing conclusions. I'm just curious as to what motivated people to spend this much effort posting on the MO forums for years at a time. Correct me if I'm wrong but me clicking a link and posting one thread and then responding to the replies seems a bit different then spending hours of time hating on a company that makes a game that you don't even play anymore. While I understand your perspective and even your action of trying to turn the question around on me, it just doesn't make sense. You're comparing apples and oranges, as it were. It seems most of the responses are setting up a 'If I don't post about MO, someone else might end up being suckered into it!" While SV's business practices leave a lot to be desired, I had a lot of fun playing MO for the small amount of time that I did. Personally, I spend a decent amount of money just on food. The hours of enjoyment I got out of learning a new game were worth the money I paid for the game. The game was buggy and the devs didn't seem to know what they were doing so I left. I didn't take it personal. I dunno. I guess we just have different perspectives. :) |

I don't play MO. I haven't played MO since probably about 3 months after release and I wasn't happy about the state of the game. I was wrong when I decided to promote Mortal Online and encouraged people to give it a try. That being said, that amount of hate/anger/effort(whichever one applies) in these forums directed at MO just astounds me. I don't think I've ever seen people hate a company more or for close to this long a period of time. Some of the people here were people I was arguing with around two years ago. Do you not have better things to do by now?
So my question is, why? Y Umadbros?

To act as though the game is a finished product is just silly. I'm not saying it is going to get better but I feel we're jumping the gun here. ;)
