What this game really has going for it...
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 9/21/10 4:00:46 PM
Originally posted by dreamscaper I have played plenty of player vs player games without immature players, and plenty with. The same goes for PvE games as well. Mileage will vary. No point argueing opinion here. Final Fantasy XIV has alot going for it as an mmo in regards to lore, gameplay, and pve experience from what I experienced in the beta. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Yawnny And Im sure all SE want are people who play ffxi to play ffxiv, because that makes perfect sense to compete with your own mmo. Discrediting people's opinions because they are not familiar with SE's other mmo is foolish. SE has stated numerous times that ffsiv is meant to be more casual and attractive to a wider audience. Hence one would venture that they want to gain new players to their games. Hence people who are unfamiliar with their previous offerings opinions would be just as valid as yours. That being said, as a person who has played both, I believe that ffxiv is a rather clunky game to play due to the over redundant menu actions and that the combat feels rather slow like in ffxi. The technical bugs Im not so concerned about since SE has been good in the past with fixing those quickly. Cheers |

Why is every second featured article on mmorpg about how great f2p is?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/10/10 6:41:11 PM
Originally posted by Uzleb I understand your point, but your analogy is flawed. F2P games do not give you the same pie for free, they more give you the crust and charge for the filling and topping, that would be more accurate. I agree that games like GW and Turbine's games have made positve strides for F2P games, but traditional item shop only F2P games have not. They have done all the harm with fluctuating prices, core mechanic changes, practically no customer service, forced cash shop purchases in order to compete, etc... I believe we need to distinguish the freemium type games from the cash shop only games, and then I believe more people would accept F2P. |

Polar opposites: ArenaNet and Bioware
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/10/10 6:33:04 PM
So we are comparing design philosophies of two games based on the info that the developing companies have released? Not to mention that one is a subscription based game that has to be concerned about retention more, whereas the other product only needs to sell the box and subsequent expansion boxes but has no worry about subs? Sounds like apples and oranges to me based purely off of the rhetoric of their creators. Personally I prefer oranges over apples myself, but apple talks a good game. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Wycliffe I know Wycliffe, everyone here so far is assuming he spent real cash for this. Most players I know in Eve buy their Plex cards with in-game funds that is easy to generate. At most this guy/gal just lost some in-game money/time for their corp. Cheers! |

The last stroke? Space is on rails
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/08/10 10:26:11 AM
Im going to continue to reserve judgement till I can get a hands-on experience with it. So far it exceeds my expectations when compared to the turrent shooter game in KOTOR. That article also gives a good bit more info about the class branches and some companions for them as well. Cheers! |

Yes, I would LOVE to pre-order the Collector's Edition!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/08/10 7:18:38 AM
I too would like one, but I hope they take example from NCsoft in how they offered their collector's edition of AION by offering digital only versions for less that just include the ingame bonuses. I could really care less about any fluff items in a box. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Faelsun Wow, just wow. You do know that EA is just the publisher. WIthout them you would not have had UO, The SIMS online, SWTOR, and other mmo's and projects. You cant blame EA for the failures of the developers. The developer set the time table for release when they ask for the money. If it wasnt for publishers like EA, you wouldn't have any mmos. I'm sorry, but as your name states, you faelsun. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Johnsavant On the Wiccana server at least, there is a /LFG channel that is more active for finding groups than global. As far as trade goes the game has an auction house, but there is little need if you join a decent guild since most will freely trade and supply mats to their members. Since you seem to be arguing that WoW has superior chat, IN YOUR OPINION, then I think you know the game that will make you happier. Cheers! |

How come allot of guys like to play female toons in mmo but not allot of females like to play male toons in mmo?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/22/10 3:12:57 PM
Originally posted by Voltlives Alot of the males I know who also play female toons do so for the same reason, after all, Aphrodite was/is the roman/greek goddess of beauty. Females have been considered the symbol of beauty for many culures. I believe those who read too much into are the ones who are truely expressing their own insecurities and projected it on others. Cheers! |

SW:TOR facebook/twitter announcement
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/17/10 5:34:30 PM
The only thing that would encourage me to go to those social websites and help advertise their game and/or help them hype it up would be for a chance to beta/test (w/e they want to call it now) their game. I do not advertise for other people's profit if I can avoid it. I have done enough of that in the past, and my time is much more limited now. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Axehilt The dev playing that jedi has stated time and time again that he was just doing that since the video was being filmed from his perspective. He said that was not how that character would likely be played, nor should. I think games like WAR and AoC have taken great strides to make the healer part of the action by encouraging healing on the fly while participating in the battle. I would hope that future games take and expand upon this, rather than encouraging the healbot mentality of 'older' mmos. Cheers! |

I have the Asus G73-A1 and let me tell you that the 5870 is a fantastic mobile card, and the cooling architecture of the asus with the fan boost with dual cooling (meanign the CPU and GPU are cooled seperately) means this is the first gaming laptop that runs all my games on high-max settings without requiring outside cooling and/or burning my lap. It has met and exceeded all my expectations in a gaming laptop. You will not be dissapointed in any of the G73 models (just keep in mind that the screen quality varies in the models). Cheers! |

World maps look too restricted
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/12/10 10:17:31 AM
The maps I saw in the leaked smuggler/trooper starting areas looked fairly large compared to most mmo's and their starting areas. This of course, will boil down to opinion, but I will have to respectfully disagree with the OP. Im not sure if the videos are still out there since the site that posted them has been taken down.
Cheers! |

Man let the misinformation fly and fume about it. 1. Sigil developed and ran Vanguard initially, Sony was the publisher. The developer goes to a publisher and asks for money and sets a tentative date with the publisher when they will deliver. Sigil failed to deliver to Microsoft and was dumped. They then failed to deliver to Sony. Sony has kept the game on life support after the failings of the Developer. (This also was the issue with WAR, mythic promised a working game with 3 year developement cycle. Yet everyone blames EA) 2. Lucasarts has all creative control over SWG and has been stated time and time again by former developers were responsible for the NGE, not Sony. I know everyone loves to have a scapegoat, but in most of the cases listed on this topic blame Sony for the failings of Sigil and Lucasarts. Learn their roles in these disasters before you point your fingers. Sony is a company. Companies like to make money. They do not like to drive customers away. I will never understand why so many people here seem to feel SOE has some vendetta against them. And no, I do not work for Sony, nor play any of their games. SOE has made mistakes (like no one or company ever has... /sarcasmoff), but they were not responsible for these two. Cheers! |

GameSpot: Rise of the Godslayer Review 8.5/10
General Discussion « Age of Conan 7/09/10 8:37:18 AM
Nice find Avery! I myself came back to AoC with RotGS along with some rl friends and we are having a blast over on Wiccana (think I spelled it correctly). We have encountered very few bugs (all of which were minor) and have found the community very helpful. I recommend this game to anyone who wants a more intense combat medieval low fantasy mmo to try the unlimited tortage trial. @Cyphers you know a recent article stated that the majority of those who come to the internet to bash/troll/flame etc... are typically disgruntled teens-early twenties who in real life tend to have been, or currently are, victims of abuse (verbal/emotional/physical). So don't mind them. They are just continuing the cycle in a format that they perceive as anonymous and safe. Cheers! |
