The free trial can be played through the downloadable client, but that's not what he's asking. He wants to know if, after playing his 10 days for free, he needs to purchase a retail version of the game, or simply subscribe and start playing.

Honestly, I don't know, that's something you'll have to ask Blizzard. I purchased and played the game long before there was ever a free trial, so I can't give an accurate answer. However, in other games it is common practice to allow players to simply subscribe and start playing without purchasing an actual game CD.

If it turns out that you are required to purchase a game CD, you can probably get one for about $20, which includes the first month's subscription.

I don't personally hate the game, but it does get boring.  Finding groups capable of defeating the dungeons/quests becomes ever more difficult as you level.  You have to complete alot of quests on higher than normal difficulty, or all of them on normal just to unlock drow (which have way better stats and racial abilities than any of the other races).  When you do unlock the drow you end running the same quests over again.  If you do reach end game its like a brick wall, most guilds only group with other guildies and it is hard to break that elitist mentallity to get into any decent groups or complete any of the higher adventures on the higher difficulties.

My problem with the game is there is nothing to do while waiting for groups, too much elitism among many veteran players, and the fact you must focus too much time raising one toon, just to unlock drow, or even worse the 32 pt character, just to start over and run the same quests over again.  I have played the game on three different servers and its always the same.

The above like should take you to account creation, there you can make an account and assign you own username and password.  Once that is done the retrieval service will work for you in the future.

That was DDO's competition, not really a wide spectrum of the online gaming universe.  They lumped one p2p (monthly fee) mmorpg, with a f2p (no monthly fee) one, and a bunch of console games.  Secondly do you take the critics advice when buying video games and watching movies?  Even game and movie critics state some games and movies are fantastic and yet they are not considered so by the vast majority.

There is alot more variety in movies and video games than there is in tennis.

Yes DDO looks good, yes DDO is fun to play for about 2-4 weeks, no it is not the best multiplayer game of the year. Also lets look at how they judged these games:

1: The official BAFTA shortlisters will be evaluating games shown at E3, at EIEF and will likely use a variety of sources when shortlisting, including reviews & editorials. The shortlisting process simply determines which titles go forward to the juries.

2: Any publisher wishing to make their released titles available to shortlisters can contact the Academy or send the Academy copies/promos.

Yea DDO looked good at E3, as did all its promotions, but did we get a winner in the end as far as fans are cocerned based on their dollar votes?

They're talking about enforcing roleplaying on the servers.  to each their own but its not for me.

2.  Anything not in the books won't be in the game.

Great marketting move there...  competitors provide something usually MMORPG's move to match them with a similar feature.  These guys.  NOPE not in the books we're not doing it.  Don't want to make Lore mongers cry.

3.  No pvp

Monster play, theory only at this stage not even tested.  Advertising for something that isn't even being worked on in beta... um ok.

4.  Moderators on the forums

They ban anyone who posts something that can even remotely be interpretted as an insult.  They have these kids who spam report people jsut for disagreeing with.  You could say "no" to someone and they'd report you and the mods ban you.  This guy called someone a "carebear" and he got banned.

I would assume that is just a date placed in the system for access to beta that represents the latest expected release date of the game, but at this time the VIP code will not grant you access to the game, hence why the client is not readily available for public download.
