First off it is refreshing to see a civil thread on this site.

Second I agree with alot of you on the problem that some players exhibit overhyping a game in their mind only to result in eventual disappointment.

I currently play SWTOR and have played every major to medium MMO since Meridian 59.  I also look forward to GW2 and PS2 since I love open world pvp.  I am giving Bioware a chance to fix their current open world pvp.  What I know about PS (original) and have read about GW2 I look forward to moving to these titles to get my open world pvp fix.

I believe GW2 will do slightly better than the first.

Cheers!

Same here.  I have been having a good time with my mates and discovering new things everyday.

Cheers!

All I have to say to the OP is that if you bought the game just for its graphics then you could have saved yourself some money and bought the star wars movies on blue ray.  I purchased the game for its story and gameplay, and I am happy.

Cheers!

If people didn't like the game there wouldn't be a hour long wait on half of them during primetime (to log in).

That is because Bioware is playing it safe and not adding more servers.   Rift had queues as well, so do most new launches, it is not indicative of a games over all success or failure - that comes 3 to 6 months after launch.   And besides, what constitutes failure.  I think if SW:TOR retains 350k to 500k players it should be considered successful.

They have added servers Teala Im at the server selection looking at 10 light servers.  People are just not filling them up yet.

Cheers!

You can move your raid frames around.  You can also change the size of the health bars, and use raid frames for groups as well.   See the bottom of this article:

quoted this because I found it very helpful when I read the article about a week ago.

Cheers!

I can understand where the OP is coming from.  I followed my friends to the empire side as a Sith Inquisitor.  I decided to go light sided responses to make up for it.  Boy does the game like to punish you for bucking the norm.  My companion practically hates every decision I make and constantly puts me down.  I have been struggling with raising his affection and just plain give up.  If he happens to like something I say I get 15 affection, but usually I get -30 or -40 constantly.  I am level 29 and he has less than 200 affection, whereas all my dark sided friends are well over 4000 at the same level.

I keep on going as the oddball in my guild.  Apparently no sith have any allies according to the decisions so I find it odd that they even have the capacity to have a strong cohesive empire since I am apparently supposed to play an egotistical psycho killer at all times, or be punished by the game.  I have yet to see any species in any setting survive by constantly killing everyone to be on top, but apparently in sith world, that is the norm.  It would be as if Emperor Palpatine just killed everyone he met.  I don't remember that from the movies, but apparently its Bioware's take on the Sith Inquisitor.

Im not really too upset by it since this is just a game, but the negativity does have an affect on you.  I don't have an inner psycho in me.  I always play a healer in game and real life.  A dark sided healer makes no sense, and apparently neither does a light sided one (on the sith side).  Keep in mind I am on an RP server and want to play my character, but honestly the only person I really want to kill is my supposed slave servant Khem Val.  Unfortunately I am only able to kill everyone but him and must put up with him constantly questioning my authority and openly mocking me.  Doesn't seem very sith to me...

God bless America and all, but try Canadian game developer.  And yes, many of us canadians are quite proud of that fact; thus my reply.  :)

I agree.  That is why I married a French-Canadian!

Not everyone agrees on everything,  I just htink it would make for interesting discussion.  Vanguard ( depending on if you consider it straight themepark or hybrid) would have to be a great example of themepark crafting done right.   I do not have a max level toon but 3 of them in the mid to upper 30s.  I am buying the game so I am not hating on it but I am buying for the story elements and setting more than anything.  I honestly believe if anyone is buying it for its MMO elements will be disappointed and feel wanting.

I do not agree with you on the MMO elements lacking in this game.  SWTOR awareds social points for doing solo quests (in addition to flashpoints/operations) with others.  Does WoW, Rift, or any other AAA MMO do that?  I was able to play every aspect of TOR with a group the same as I was in any other MMO.  How exactly is it lacking in this game?  The crafting is more complex than WoW, Rift, but admittedly not as deep as EQ2's initial system (which I did not like personally).

From my perspective due to the addition of social points that you can collect in all content except your personal story quests while grouping I believe this game encourages more interaction among players than most themepark games.  I also find the crafting more in depth than the majority of themepark games as well.

Cheers!

You Aussies may not have such an issue with getting games if you relaxed those software laws of yours.  BTW this thread seems so fresh and unique...  I have discussed this in the past with other Aussies and instead of complaining they have either a) purchased TOR online, or b) moved on with their life.  I would suggest one of the two.

Cheers!

It is EA!  Servers will be yoyo's on launch and probably through the first week at least.  If they make you go through the origin  version of steam which I suspect will be true, add a month to that.  Bioware might be a great developer, but EA will still bollux up the servers.

I suppose you havn't bothered to read the multiple dev posts stating you need origin in no way shape or form to play this game.  Lots of informed people here...

Cheers!

I see the hype behind ToR, but I do not understand the reasoning honestly. People say Bioware + Star Wars...I just saw someone with some pop siccle Star Wars in their grocery cart?? Should we all go buy that because it says Star Wars on it?? People said they would not fall for the hype again after FF14, Aion, WAR, but I am seeing it again.

The difference I see with TOR is all the positive feedback from reviewers, con goers, and more importantly beta leakers.  As a long time mmo player, beta tester, and follower it has been a long time since an MMO has garnered as much positive feedback from all groups.  WAR had terrible feedback from beta leakers and mixed reviews from those who played at cons/events.  AOC had terrible feedback from beta testers.  AION had bad feedback from testers.  FF14 had bad feedback from testers. Your examples are not comparative.  If the popsicle had star wars and was made by Ben and Jerry's then yea it would be an awesome popsicle most likely.

Cheers!

I would say I am for them.  I am always for adding more options to a game.  More options always enhances an mmo.  If you do not like a feature do not use it.  BTW to those who think WoW invented mounts I suppose you never played UO, or any other online MUD.  I dare say I cannot for the life of me find any culture that western European mythology inspired games are based on that did not utilize some form of animal as transportation past the stone age.

Cheers!

The expansions is interesting to say the least.  I'm just shocked that they introduce pandarins over ogres as playable races.  Ever since WoW came and I played till just after Cata I have wanted to play one. As far as the pet system I say more choices are always good.  It doesn't seem as diverse as they say since according to their reveals it seems you have a choice between 3 similar abilities/effects.  I suppose we will have to wait and see how it turns out.

Cheers!

(you guessed it. I'm an x DAOC player). How close are we to being SURE this game approaches DAOC faction conflict  with objectives(and rewards for taking those objectives)....in a huge  faction conflict area ?

Did a dev said it would be like that?

Or are you just pulling something here?  You loved DAOC so you PRESUME by asking how close it is to this AS IF they ever had any intent to make it like DAOC.  Show me proof they had such an intention.

I'm not going to do the research for you, its out there, but it has been stated by the devs that a portion of Ilium will have a base for each faction.  The opposing faction can take control of the area by destroying the opposing base.  They have this information on the official site.

Cheers!

The next question is:  What will the Euros complain about now on the official forums?  The game is technically launching globally since the devs have stated numerous times there will be no IP blocking so anyone in the world can log in and play.  Preordering and connection will be another issue...

Cheers!

The top 1% must be dancing at the OP's local bank... ruling his world... of warcraft.

Cheers!

Lastly, the SWTOR team revealed that spending points in the Light or Dark side will change the character's appearance.

You don't spend points for LS/DS, you gain them through conversation actions/decisions.  Awesome stuff though.

Cheers!

The only people getting invites should be from the pool of 500k preorders Bioware has at the moment. Handing out random invites to people who just signed up and didn't give you any money towards the development of your game is just bad form.

The preorders will for sure buy, the people who only applied for teh beta are still undecided, it makes more sense to offer it to the one without preorder, it can improve your sales. Remember it's a beta butit's a markting move too.

Only problem with that logic is that you run the risk of making decisions based on feedback from potential customers that may not gel with your current customers (preorders) and risk their continued support (subs) and even sale (preorder) since we will have a head start and grace period during which we may still cancel.

Just sayin...

Cheers!

As far as MMO's go I have been waiting around since RIFT beta.  None of the current mmo's have really tickled my fancy.  I personally enjoy playing mmo's within the first couple of months of launch when things are fresh and new.  Older games tend to get too top heavy and stale when every player has a collection of maxxed out toons.  I am honestly looking forward to SWTOR, GW2, and TSW since they each seem to have something relatively new.  For now its Baldur's Gate and Master of Magic to bide my time (till Skyrim that is).

Cheers!

No worries. Christmass isn't tomorrow. There's plenty of time still for substantial press exposure and DNA drops.

No offense mate, but you could have kept that to yourself!

;)

To the OP: there have been alot of reviews of the game from nearly every major game oriented event for the past two years.  Videos galore on youtube, and people/press reviews during and after every event.  I would suggest Google, Bing, Yahoo, or any internet search engine to assist you in this.

Cheers!
