haters gonna continue to hate post launch, they will even hate it more when it becomes the new popular mmo that all the "newbs" like to play.

#1 rule all elitist's must abide by, never like something everyone else likes. lol

IMO the game kicks ass and i am glad i have been allowed to play it since july. :)

Well NDA is finally dropped. Thanks god for that.
Not because of any mistery the game was. If anything Bioware never hidden what the game was. A pure straight forward DIKU, Themepark ( or what have popularly be called WOW clone )
I am glad NDA was lifted , to see so much positive feedback.
Reminds me of strong positive feedback AOC and WAR recieved back in the day.
Not sugesting SWTOR is not million times better.
But the excitement from players was same. if not greater.  (i remember AOC had around million preorders too)

But that is just the thing with themeparks. They are awesome, but the shine wears off fast.

So when i see people here bickering about SWTOR.
Isnt it in fact just a argument about themepark vs sandbox?

For me question is simple: Do you like Themepark MMOs ?
If answer is yes - SWTOR is probably best themepark made to this date (or at least sounds so)
If answer is no - move along.

And that is all there is to say about it.

Alas,
In my oppinion, time of themeparks is over. MMOs are moving on and SWTOR will be the last of its kind.
It will be real hard for it to show profit in the age of F2P and B2P. And its subscriptions will dwindle rapidly.
SWTOR will become a last dinosaur. Example of what not to do in MMO.
And it will bring changes.

And this is why I love it.

this is a pretty uninformed post to be honest.

you do realize that wow is a theme park mmo, right? pretty sure its still pretty popular 7 years after launch.

its not the fact if it is theme park or not, games being developed in that manner just bring in more players to the genre, it makes the games more mainstream.

what keeps people playing first and foremost is community and content. if they can follow through with solid endgame content to keep the endgame guilds happy, that will be pretty huge.

because i can guarantee you the casual gamers will be happy as you possibly could be with an mmo in terms of longevity due to the 8 unique class story arc's, the pvp end game, and all the other aspects of this mmo that you see in all the other mmo's out there.

i will frankly be shocked if this game isn't a huge success long term but again, it depends on how they follow through with accommodating the community and the end game content.

thats what it really comes down to.

i will take "shard jumping" over server instability or overpopulation and having to wait in line to complete an objective any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

this is going to be beneficial to the launch of this game and just like in EQ2 once the zones are not so over populated, you will never see the "sharding" again.

And I can finally post here again...hehehe.
Been playing closed beta for months. Have leveled a Marauder, Juggernaut, Assassin and Power Tech BH to mid 30's - 40's.
The game is goddamn FUN.
It is like a good book that you can't put down. This thing will devour your life.
Yeah, it's got a few flaws...but I fully expect those to be addressed in the future (can we say...entire re-write of the space combat system?)
I've tested on PVP servers (FUN!!!) and PVE servers. I will definately be rolling on a PVP server at launch. The world PVP once you get to Nar Shadda and beyond is a blast. There's nothing like running a quest with a group and running into a group of republic scum, and having a battle break out that lasts for the next hour or so. Or being solo, and finding out how many of them you can kill before they finally take you down.
I'll tell you straight up...the first couple worlds feel kind of small. This would be specifically the starting planet for each class, and then the faction capital for each side. After that, it slowly starts to open up. Nar Shadda seems endless....Tattooine seems like it wants to be bigger than it is, and by the time you get to Alderaan you're going to be bitching that it takes too long to get anywhere because the place is so massive.
But one of the things that really keeps me playing is the combat. It's fast paced (no whacking on the same mob for ten minutes), and you do feel rather bad-ass when you mow down a dozen mobs, or solo an elite with perfect timing and combos. But don't let this fool you.....get careless, and you are dead. In fact, this game seems to excel at waiting until you're entirely too comfortable, and then reminding you that you are mortal.
Yeah, this is a themepark game....in the strictest sense of the word. But for some reason that doesn't seem to bother me. Maybe it's because I am so wrapped up in the stories, and the black-hole immersiveness that I forget that I'm playing a game. The mechanics seem transparant (especially since I use a Razer Naga mouse) and the real world just disappears.
So....after months of testing, I can honestly say that I'm not burned out, and don't expect to be any time soon. In fact, I'm just looking forward to launch so I can finally stop having to re-roll every build

i have also been testing for last like 4 builds and also agree with this. some of the bugs can be annoying but every new mmo has them.

it really does simply come down to this......if you don't have a problem with it being "themepark" and a linear mmo, then you will love this game.

if you don't like that then this is not your game, its as simple as that.

and yes, this is the first game that will take substantial subs away from wow if the launch is done right, at least in north america and Europe.

Yes its a grindfest. Welcome to every single MMo that exist that involves you trying to 'get' something.
As far as it goes, a lot of quests seem rather generic and dule, but a nice part is the fact they seem to want to incorperate more 'story' into it. If its done right, it might actualy help to some degree make people forget the fact that quests are just a fancy way to hide that your just grinding.

LOL If you think SWTOR is a grindfest, WoW must have been your first MMO.

SWTOR is another to max level in under a week MMO.

So you plan on playing the game for 200 hours the first week?

it wont be 200 hours if they skip through the cut scenes.

Yes, it is a horrible quest grind.  You grind quests to get your gear, you grind quests to get your ship, you grind quests to get your companions.  Horrible grind.

so every mmo is a horrible grind? lol

that's like saying KOTOR was a horrible grind (or any single player RPG for that matter).

i think the OP meant doing the same things over and over. yes there will be a lot of that but the class story arc is definitely not a grind.

so i guess you can say this game has the least grind of all the other games? heh

any mmo will be a grind.

its like wow in the grind department but not sure if there is a lot of pointless and boring grinds like rep grinding for example.

this game wont flop no matter how much some of you want it to. it may not be for everyone but its going to have a huge following, its going to have a lot of subscribers.

if you think it will flop after three weeks then you are being unrealistic.

this game will be huge as far as mmo's go.

I still play old school, I have been looking at some newer stuff, but I haven't felt the 'need' yet...I have been close, but I usually figure out where to put everything to keep it quick.

I can put some movement stuff above the arrows, then I use the num pad to put skills/spells and such on it.  I usually make 0/. tab/target/assist type stuff, with the 1-9, /, *, -, + as stuff I want to have quick access to...I then rest my right hand on the 4-5-6 line and have quick access and left hand on movement and anything else....Just depends on the situation and type of character I am playing.

What about mouse?

I use the mouse, but it all depends on the situation, and what is more needed...I have movement and such with my left hand, and skills/targeting and assists with my right....So I will often not even be using the mouse....I pan/zoom in-out and some other stuff with it....Just depends....Took a little getting use to, started doing it in WAR, did it in Rift, worked well.  I have 15 buttons on the numpad to macro, the arrows keys for basic movement, delete/page down/up for alt movement.  If I am in a situation where I am doing a lot of panning and zooming in and out, then I play with the mouse more and go back to more traditional play.

i sort of play the way you do except i use the mouse to move side to side and to view things all around me.

pretty much have to do that in pvp, pve its not necessary though. but i also have a razer so i just use a few keys on the keyboard and the rest on the mouse and that is more than enough hot keys for me.

that way i almost never have to take my hand of the movement keys to hit a hot button, works great for kiting for kiting.

it also doesn't change the way you play, its easy to adapt to.

all i have to say about this is its called mmoRPG for a reason. its a character you are acting out that apparently isn't gay.

i am not saying you are gay in real life (OP) because i do not know. but i don't see why BW should be expected to cater to gay people when it is not intended for the story or characters in their game.

if that seems harsh or "anti-gay" i am sorry. i am not anti-gay but i don't see why they should have to add in same sex romance options just to make the gay community happy when it doesn't fit into their story line.

just because you like gay romance stories or are gay in real life does not mean your character has to be gay.

its an RPG not a RLG.

most of "nay sayers" are simply affraid that it willbe new WoW, that will trumple their cherished "games to be" ;)

this is exactly what it is and why you always see hatred for the most popular games on all of the mmo sites.

but you also get the "hardcore" people who think that everyone else should like the same games they like, even if they are the vast minority of gamers (which they are).

it has always amazed me at what lengths people will go to bash another game because they want all games to be created just for them and their play style.

its immature and its the primary reason i don't come to the gaming forums much any more. all it is is sifting through whining and complaining. your game vs my game, "fanboi" vs "hater" i am sooo sick of that jr high BS.

I want to like it so much because I'm a huge star wars fan and I loved galaxies and I will buy it regardless because I'm a huge star wars nerd...

but I'm also a veteran MMO player.  I've played UO, Shadowbane, Eve, DAOC, EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, WoW, Rift, and more....

This game just seems like it's building off hype and the star wars name.  All the trailers I've seen, all the videos...  really leave me with this feeling of "cheesy and another cash cow".   It doesn't leave me with this degree of OMG this game is perfection and totally going to kick ass.  Reading the features, and keeping up on the game itself...  only eight classes, space combat is a joke, and yeah...  another korean grind to make you pay money monthly long enough to milk ya.  Sigh.  I've got it preordered because I'm an idiot lol

Bottom line is I've seen very little in the ways of "this is what other mmo's do, we're going to take that and build on it and improve it in this way"  Instead I'm seeing, "AWESOME LIGHTSABER FIGHT!" and what star wars things will be in the game.

i stopped reading after you called it "another Korean grind". if you don't like it, fine. but its nothing like a Korean grind mmo.

actually, some of the games you mentioned that you do like are much more like Korean grinds than SWTOR.

to me, the story aspect of this mmo is more like a single player experience than any other mmo i have ever seen to date.

it makes it less of a grind.

One of the main reason non-humanoid species aren't in the game is time/money constraints. For every playable species that isn't humanoid, meaning different body models, every piece of armor and clothing has to be redone to fit that specific body form. Since most non-humanoid species in the SW universe has a different body form/shape, a whole line of specific armor and clothing has to be design specifically for each of them. That is a crap load of time and money.
It is more sensible to introduce one species at a time after launch once man power, time and money is more available to dedicate to such an endeavor.

but they are worried, which is why they are holding diablo 3 (a finished game) so they can release it at the same time tor does.

the very reason they still don't have a release date is to combat blizzard doing that.

Honestly I don't think this will have any bearing on wow.  The reason I say this is how many wow players do you hear play games like eve, swg, fallen earth that kind of thing.  It is a totally different type of gaming, and I don't think those playing wow would come over.  Honestly I hope they don't they can keep that cesspool for all I care.
I think games like rift will suffer, and those already near deaths door.

tor is more like wow than the sandbox games you mentioned. i understand you dont like the community from wow (i dont either) but tor's community will be very similar no matter what.

especially on the pvp servers.

Nope it won't, as it didn't really bring any thing new to the table, and 1 of the let down for me is its.animation.
After wow, except Korean mmo, no other mmo have that smooth combat animations
Will it lowers wow sub? Definitely, but dethrone? Nope

yes, because wow did bring new things to the table when it launched? i will not be surprised to see tor have more subs than wow briefly after it launches.

star wars fans + bioware fans + mmo/wow fans looking for something new = potential to have more subs than wow does.

it wont kill wow, it may lessen its numbers. but i do think it will be easily the most sucsessful western mmo after wow.

it may even match or surpass wow's numbers at one point but even then i wouldnt consider wow "killed".

go through amazon, you will get an instant e mail with your code. :)

after coming to this Website and other similar ones for years, it is quite clear that many of the people here have to complain about games that do not fit their criteria of what they think every game should be like.

especially when there is a lot of hype and popularity around a certain game. elitists never like what popular, its not cool enough to like what everyone else likes lol

that is why there is so much hatred, not just for this game, but any popular game. name the most popular mmo's and they all have a lot of hate mongers like this one does.

not saying people don't or should not have legitimate concerns for this game, i have a few myself. but to the people who clearly have no interests in playing this game yet love to make posts about it spreading their hate for it......every last one of you have a hidden agenda.

either you want to discourage people from playing and enjoying a game that you don't like or you are worried that this game will take players away from the game you like.

or perhaps you just like to troll and flame, which is another reason why the popular games have so much hate here in the forums, in my opinion.

either way, its the reason why i don't enjoy posting on gaming forums as much anymore, its all pretty much just my game vs your game flame wars and its freaking stupid and immature as hell to be brutally honest.

Inqusitor Sorcerer (Sith Pureblood). To fry some Jedis :P

as far as im aware, they don't plan to allow purebloods as inquistors due to the inquistors story has a back story of coming from being slaves, and during this time period purebloods are the aristocrats of the sith empire.  they may decide to change it since alot of people have asked for it but they haven't confirmed that its in

and just need to check my sig to see what im planning for at launch. ;)

That sounds really dumb.  Every single person who makes an inquisitor was a former slave?  That is so stupidly implausible.

just like how every BH that can be played is a BH that works for the empire or every playable smuggler works for the republic.  there will be BH's in game that can be met that work for the republic you just can't play one because the story being told is that of one working for empire.  They decided to make the background story of the warrior be about the elites within the sith society and decided to make the inquistor background be about  those taken from slavery that have shown promise in the use of the force.

so yea it may be implausible but there are going to be bumps in the road in figuring out how make single player rpg quality story fit into an mmo enviroment.  if its not something you like, well then i guess just spam space bar and ignore the story and make up your own

so the pureblood in that trailer or NPC pureblooods can be inquisitors but players cannot? i find that a little hard to believe.

i am not suggesting you are wrong and we are both specualting but i am just saying...
