i know nothing about this game, is it ffa full looting? if so, yeah it wont do well and thats not really going out on a limb either.

those kind of games rarely do well, i can only think of one that has been released in the last 10 or 12 years that has.

You have brawling.

Oh, you meant joining a game and killing / griefing people with no interest in PvP against their wishes? Sorry, no dice. You'll have to stick to finding people who actually want to PvP.

Patch looks good, but I feel my time is still better spent in Marvel Heroes. Lots of heroes to play, and an alternate advancement system with actual depth. And better team-ups / minions / hirelings (which are getting even better). And more frequent patches and content updates. And a better community. And lots of events and seasonal activities. And... well, you get the point.

Don't get me wrong, I love D3, it's got the best combat and is overall the second best ARPG out there right now, but Blizzard really is being put to shame by Gazillion and even Grinding Gear Games in terms of patches and content. And both of those games are free! Not that you'd guess that if you saw how much I've spent on MH...

grats on jumping to conclusions. no i do no want to grief, i want there to be public games i can find where people are already pvp'ing.....ya know? like diablo 2 had? i like diablo 3 and play it from time to time but what kept me playing D2 all those years and what would keep me playing D3 is pvp.

i know i am not alone either.

Also much, much more expensive!

All those Sith Warrior cutscenes gave me fond flashbacks. So much style! Go Sith Warrior!

true, but just saying......those were amazing trailers, not this. even though this one seemed to be in game content, unlike those cinematic trailers.

i can still watch those trailers and get pumped for the game, they are awesome!

still no pvp?

i'm exited for 1.6 and that's what i have been waiting for before i come back. currently i am having fun in another mmo so i don't know when i will come back but i definitely will eventually :)

a poll should be started to ask how many times SWTOR fans have quit/taken a break and come back, just to put an emphasis on how pointless this is.

i know personally i have taken at least 3 breaks from this game but i am playing it currently. should i make a thread every time i take a break from a game now?

the cinematic trailers released with the game are far and away better IMO

So many people frown upon loot grinding but then EQ was the same? EQ had massive grinds. You had to grind like crazy to level up and grind like crazy when you hit max level. EQ was even worse for endgame because it only had raiding. There was not even real PvP. So all you had was raids.

Previously

PVE content in MMOs.

EQ - Start up a toon - grind mobs until max level, raid or die.

WOW - start up a toon - grind quests until max level, raid or die.

See the resemblance?

EQ was a pain to level up at launch.

WoW was a pain to level up at launch.

Fast forward to the present.

EQ is ez as shit to level up.

WoW is ez as shit to level up.

16 YEars later, endgame is still raid or die.

Do you guys see something fundamentally wrong with this?

yep, EQ was a huge grind far worse than wow. but the difference? first of all, you are not getting max level in a week or two like you do in wow (not talking about pl'ing)

even the EQ of today takes a long ass time to get to level 105 because you have to grind AA's or you will be severely gimped post 90.

when i first started playing EQ it took me over a year of dedicated playing to reach max level, which included mostly grouping. so endgame content wasn't quite as important as it is in a game like wow because you are getting to the end game extremely quick.

secondly, back in the day EQ had a huge emphasis on grouping. sure it was a grind but it allowed you to actually chat with people in your group and socialize.

not me, just something about the game i don't like and i have given it a few chances.

I agree.  It's the people who spout lengthy diatribes about why they're quitting are the ones that actually care about the game and really don't want to quit.  Most people if they don't like a game they just move on.

exactly. ive quit this game a few different times and have come back, who cares? people that make long winded goodbyes are the ones that are far too emotionally connected to these games and probably should take a step back from the game for their own good IMHO.

Another quickie play and trash game, imho. My reasons are different from the OP.  But the last thing that make me quit was the realization that no matter how much I wanted the game to be, it wasn't. It is not a TES game and will never be. I didn't want a Skyrim, that game is boring as hell. The game is dumbed down for the masses and as a TES fan, I am afraid the next TES will be a dissapointment as well. But I suppose this is all in the name of business and money.

if you don't like tes single player games and think they are boring, why would you buy an mmo version? sounds like you made a poor decision and wasted your money, live and learn.

Originally posted by phantomghost Well I believe level has increased to Vr14 now.. but when I quit it was Vr12...   6-7 days for 1 to Vr12 is the main reason I quit.   Another 4-7 days for full suit of player crafted armor... under 2 weeks you have a top of the line character with the only improvements being more skill points or the (I wouldn't call it raid) slightly larger than group PvE sets.     Then I suppose you can do what all the games now seem to do for lack of PvE Progression... PvP.     That and the terrible balance of  builds (meaning there was a specific weapon build that beat the rest ... by a lot).
And i really doubt they are going to patch in more engaging end game all of a sudden after B2P switch.  A lot of players quit when they hit lvl cap and yes not everyone is into PVP. For ESO 1 to 50 lvl content isn't the problem it is the end game and lack of grouping tool which really discourages people. Spamming LFG is not my thing really.
And with that I agree completely.
Again, people complaining about end game content. If ESO doesn't offer comparable end game content, than please give an example of a game that does, that is actually more successful than ESO. People are complaining that ESO is too easy and yes, I agree it is easy. However, there are a lot of people who claim a lot of MMO's are ridiculously difficult, such as Wildstar. There will never be an MMO that pleases everyone, so try to understand that. ESO is based off a very popular single player game, so I'm sure that went into a lot of the thought process when designing the game. ESO is probably thee most solo friendly MMO on the market. Also, the fact anyone can get to VR12 or VR14 in 2 weeks or less only means one thing, you are a content locust and you probably don't give a crap about story or content. In that case, you deserve to be bored. It took me 2-3 weeks to get one character to VR1 and I did about 90-95% of the Dominion content and 100% of Coldharbor. However, in defense of ESO, I didn't pay attention to the story in order to level quicker because I wanted to get a character to VR status in order to get some Champion points before 1.6 patch went live. ESO does have Craglorn as it's PvE endgame along with VR dungeons. Cyrodil is a very important part of the ESO endgame as well. Most MMO's rely on PvP endgame to cover the game's lack of PvE content updates. GW2 has WvW, WoW has Arena, Battlegrounds and Wintergrasp. I'm almost willing to bet, every major PvE MMO still has PvP available because of that very reason. So, your hatred for ESO basically covers every MMO ever made. Not a great argument, but I wouldn't expect much from blind hatred.
I got sick of the story that started 11 years ago.  That is pick up 5 items here, kill 10 mobs here, follow the map that points you right to where you need to go.  Then the stories are all the same.  This thing will die if I do not have 7 flowers to make a potion to heal them.  We will lose this battle if you don't kill 15 ogres.  Hard to believe every character I make can run into the same problem as the last apparently my killing 50 ogres wasn't all the story made it out to be.  Be like me watching Lion king 20x and expecting the story to change... it doesn't, so why would I care to do the story for the 100th time.

And the best MMO still made to date EQ, did not have PvP to make up for their lack of content.  They had MMO features like group and raid content progression.

mmo's don't have pvp to make up for a lack of pve content, what a ridiculous statement. you also might want to realize that EQ indeed had pvp servers that they threw in after the fact.

does that mean that EQ was also trying to make up for their lack of content? lol

or maybe just maybe they were trying to cater to a style of gaming that a lot of people enjoy in their mmo's?

people on this forum will never change, you either like what they like or they bash the hell out of it to try and make sure people only like what they like.

Originally posted by Domoto This is not P2W, it's pay for convenience. Leveling faster because you are subbed is not winning because you payed money. You are not getting anything someone else cannot just because you paid money. Also, saying *BURIED IN THE FAQ* is misleading, and comes off as stirring shit up. The day they announced it, of the 4 or so places I saw the announcement, the terms of continuing a sub was there, including at XP bonus. I don't play this game, and most likely won't but is this really necessary?
I don't consider it just convenience.

After the champion system rolls out, experience past level 50 is supposed to mean something. More champion points into your char makes you stronger.

If you have a guy who can do it faster, then yes, I DO see that as a clear advantage. It is not just a "convenience".

nah, its 100% convenience.

simply having an advantage because you level faster does not = pay to win. being able to buy items to make your character more powerful, that's pay to win and i really don't see where the confusion comes from.

so will we see this patch soon or is this the march 17th one?

What makes you think B2P is going to make the game better?

They've already admitted the content update frequency will fall down

From the reddit AUA:

1) With the change to B2P, can we expect the development time of dlc's to take longer? So far we had a new patch every 4 or 6 weeks, will that time (for example) double after the B2P conversion? 2) Why should PvP players subscribe? We haven't seen a dedicated PvP patch ,at all, from the start of the game. And by that I mean a patch that will introduce (for example) a new and exclusive mechanic into Cyrodiil. How much longer will it take to open the Imperial City?

1) It has less to do with a change in model and more to do with the fact that development on four platforms is more complicated than two. We fully expect a longer time between updates. But remember, there will be some updates which are free and some which are DLC. This will impact the schedule because it is a different delivery plan than our current model.

Conclusion: less content updates, more pink fluffy guar mounts & XP boosters.

So yeah, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

it says right there that it has more to do with the fact that they have 4 different platforms to patch, even if it was sub only across all platforms the content would take longer to develop.

you can blame the console version on this exclusively.

What's gonna change that makes the game "better" ??

For ESO to get me back..what are they going to do to lure those who left a while ago?  I can tell you now it's certainly not going to be the cash shop.

lots of people who like it though, even if you do not.

The lesson is easy.

DO NOT MAKE SUBSCRIPTION MMO'S, THEY ARE DEAD.

if a game came along that was far and away better than anything else, it would flourish with a monthly sub, just like wow has.

not saying wow is better than anything else but it was that initial surge that built their loyal community that will keep coming back.

frankly, i think it's pretty absurd to believe that its because of the sub that games fail. they fail because everything has been done before, the market is saturated, and there isn't one mmo out there that separates itself from the rest.

has very little to do with subs IMHO

I have to let you people make your own mistakes and get taken advantage of. Because I am tired of this!
(...) people should go do their own research on a game before listening to anyone on this website.
Some people dont have time to do detailed research on every "next-fail-wannabe" MMO on the market. I really appreciate someone else doing it for me - saves me money and time.
Nothing wrong with this approach in my opinion.  as long as you are certain that you share similar interests with the reviewer.

which is impossible unless you know them personally. if someone is to come to this website and make decisions to buy a game or not based on what people here say about it, they may as well quit playing mmo's all together because they all get bashed here......every single one of them.

the only ones that do not are the really bad ones that nobody cares about or the low budget indie games, which most of them fail much harder than the rest.

And by 17th of March, we will see where the game leads us

Anyone else walking this route?

when i come back i'm going to pay the optional sub anyways, i'm waiting for the patch i couldn't care less about no sub.

What are the reasons ESO failed to maintain their original business model?

Or was it inevitable no matter what ZOS did or how good the game was?

nope, by far the main reason why they did this IMO is because the console launch would fail miserably if there was a sub model and they obviously can't make PC users pay a sub and not console players.

this is a no brainer.
