Why not just have force powers be something you get after playing with a single character on a single account for a number of months - say 36 months? In order to get force powers you have to pay 36 consecutive monthly payments and keep the same character active for that period. Alternatively, why not just reward the very top-scoring combat player/characters with Jedi powers. Every month, that month's highest-scoring character gets to become a Jedi. Both of these will result in rare Jedi, and both reward excellence in terms of ability or in terms of player loyalty. |

Rubbish! There is only one Jedi in A New Hope, only one in The Empire Strikes Back, and only one in Return of the Jedi. Three Jedi in the first three Star Wars movies. How many characters are in those films? Probably hundreds. Jedi are extremely rare in the Star Wars films. Jedi powers are certainly a big part of the films, but SWG was not supposed to make every player into Luke Skywalker. SWG was supposed to give the player the experience of being a part of the Star Wars universe, and in order to do that Jedi have to be rare or nonexistent. |

I was a musician who suffered greatly due to the hologrind. I honed my profession, I had a great show that I took on tour, but I often found that the cantinas were full of hologrinding Jedi wannabes who didn't care about entertaining, and unfortunately the general consensus was that all entertainers were grinding towards Jedi. Sad. |

On the other hand, what could be done is make Jedi a player reward that takes effect after three years of continuous play. That way it's a reward for true SWG veterans, Jedi are rare, and no hologrinding is necessary. |

the only way to make it star warsy now is to euthanize jedi

Yeah, but grinding wasn't the way to do it. What they should have done was give each character the possibility of earning 'force adept' powers by learning a certain random skill set (maybe three master combat professions) that you had to complete in a certain order - the skills and the order should have been kept completely secret. If you did it in the wrong order or learned other skills you'd fail to get force powers. That way there would be no reason to grind and Jedi would have been very rare. Also, because non-combat professions weren't included there would have been no hologrinders in the cantinas and Jedi-grinders would have done their thing without annoying other players or destroying other professions. |

I agree, and I've been saying that Jedi don't belong in the game ever since the hologrind started. The introduction of Jedi killed the entertainer professions and then went on to kill every other profession and any fun that the game offered the true Star Wars fans. If the developers had wanted Jedi in the game they should have set the game in the era of the Old Republic - perhaps during the time of the Sith Wars so that having lots of Jedi and Sith made sense. |

So, what's with Helios saying SWG is ending
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 7/05/06 10:41:04 AM
I tried all the other big name MMORPGs and none of them kept me interested for any length of time. I suspect that many ex-SWG gamers feel the same way. If SWG offered a 'classic' server I'd sign up once more in an instant because there was reason to believe that SWG was finally starting to head in the right direction before NGE went live. Sure, there was a way to go, but there had been some improvements to certain aspects of the game that made me believe that the developers were actually starting to listen to us. Heck, maybe I'd be foolish to give them $15/month again, but hey, it's Star Wars and if there's hope that I can play music in a Star Wars cantina with good friends again I'll jump at the chance. |

Entertainers, where will you go?
Species, Profession & Skills « Star Wars Galaxies 7/05/06 10:26:06 AM
Where are all the entertainers anyway? After NGE I was pretty much unable to find any entertainers. Seems to me they've already gone. I'm considering starting SWG up once more, just to see what's happened in the last few months since I left, but I'm worried that I won't find anyone. Is there somewhere where I can find a good group of entertainers?

Entertainer, A Joke or Not?
Species, Profession & Skills « Star Wars Galaxies 7/05/06 9:55:31 AM
I played as an entertainer from game launch (I eventually became a master musician after having been a master dancer and toying with image design) and finally gave up on the game shortly after the NGO went live (I had also given up in disgust twice previously). Basically, entertainer is a useless profession post-NGE. Before NGE there was always a reason to play as an entertainer, even though it was always hard to do so due to developer apathy and player disrespect for the non-combat professions. The developers did not adequately support the class and they slowly took away our ability to make money and even our ability to heal. When SWG first launched, entertainer was a good class for those of us who disliked the same old combat-orientated roles that every other MMORPG offered. But soon after launch SOE took away our ability to make money and forced us to play purely for tips and it went slowly downhill from there. I'm still looking for a game in which I can play a non-combat role, but none offer me the experience that SWG initially gave. SWG gave me the ability to play real music and create a really entertaining show within a game, but SOE took away all the possibilities for interaction, and when my friends all left the game in disgust I found myself entertaining in empty cantinas. It was just no longer fun.

The Official "We're Angry at SOE" thread

I agree completely. SWG was a good game that needed perfecting, but it gave me more than any other MMORPG that I've tried since. I've tried a lot of them, but I always give them up because they never give me the same sense of being in a real world that SWG gave me. Sadly the SWG that was doesn't exist anymore. |

The Official "We're Angry at SOE" thread
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 7/05/06 9:19:41 AM
I loved the potential of SWG but SOE completely screwed it up. As an entertainer I found that my profession, which was great fun at first and showed lots of promise, was gradually whittled down until there really was no reason to play anymore. I liked that SWG gave us a game where non-combat professions were more than just healers, so I was all the more disappointed when SOE turned my character into a mere healer, and then removed the need for healing altogether, leaving me with no reason to play whatsoever. It's a year since I finally gave up, and I'm still bitter about it because, unlike my other games, I can no longer play the Star Wars game I loved. |
