Yup. Great new content for BH & Jedi, the darlings of the devs. Still no word on IF the entertainers will get anything in any of these publishes, after having been ignored in all previous profession revamps.

I agree. I play a non-combat character in every MMORPG I buy. What use are raids to me? I require more than PvP, raids and PvE to satisfy my gaming needs. If LotRO is going to sacrifice a deep meaningful game world in order to be a WoW clone, I want no part in the game. We have one WoW game. What do we need another one for? |

I'm 100% entertainer. My character isn't an ALT. I've played entertainer exclusively for two and a half years and haven't touched a weapon in the game in all that time, because after mastering Pistoleer I found combat incredibly boring. I've never hung out with anyone making movies or roleplaying a prostitute or a slave. In fact I resent the suggestion, as it seems to me that it's part of the general prejudice that non-entertainers have about the profession. |

Well, for one thing, I'm not in any nefarious clique, and I'm more likely to disagree with the current entertainer clique than anyone else, but I'm also one of the folks who thinks that adding combat to entertainers will do a lot of harm to the entertainer profession, and I've played entertainer since launch (so it's not like I don't know what it's like to play an entertainer with combat abilities - I used to be a Master Dancer/Pistoleer). The reason it will harm entertainers is that entertainers will never get non-combat content if entertainers become a combat class. The developers have told us so on many occasions. The developer's refrain "If you want content, go kill something" became infamous on the entertainer forums before the NGE. The only hope for entertainers to get entertainer content is to remain a non-combat profession. As for why combat never made it live in the recent publish, that was purely because it didn't work very well. Trust me, the developers desperately want entertainers to be a combat class again. They want it because it will make their job so much easier if they can tell us that same old refrain - so that they don't have to bother making content that's specifically attuned to a non-combat class. |

I don't really understand it though. I mean if the game got so bad that it was actually painful to play, would these folks still defend it? I mean are they completely free of any critical thinking ability? |

I just can't get over the fact that there are still rabid fanboys and fangirls over at the SWG forums who are still of the opinion that: "The folks at SOE and LA are doing their best and just be patient for a little while longer and stop complaining". It's ludicrous. I mean these same people have been saying that for three solid years. When do these folks ever get a clue? I mean, if LA/SOE pulled the plug tomorrow these folks would still be putting a positive spin on it. It's like SWG has a bunch of fans who live in Stepford. |

It seems to me that that armour would actually increase the likelihood of an upper arm wound - if a sword hit goes anywhere near the shoulder it will be directed towards the upper arm. Also, the thighs are unprotected (unless that dark stuff is a kind of chainmail). However it is better than most of the armours we've seen. What's the deal with that sword? Seems to me it's too long to be of use to anyone who's not on a horse, and it looks too heavy for any human to wield effectively. |

I've been trying to get info about WoW elsewhere on the forums, but I've had no luck. Since you actually play it, and since you play in a non-combat (mining) role, I wonder if you could tell me what options WoW has for non-combat and/or roleplaying? |

I accept your apology, even though it's not really an apology, and even though you felt you had to insult me because you realised you were in the wrong. Never assume you can call into question a player's integrity without upsetting them. |

I notice a lot of players have elf characters. That's sick. Why on Earth would anyone play an elf. I mean yuck! It's a completely different species. Oh gross! If anyone thinks I'm being stupid - that playing an elf is just fine, I agree. But the above reaction is the exact same reaction I often get when I tell people I'm a male playing a female character. Both are roles that players can play, but one (human playing an elf) is generally regarded as fine, while the other (male playing female) gets a negative response. I think it's stupid to think that any role should be off limits, especially when it's merely because of a gender difference. |

The difference is that I'm playing a female in the game and you think that means I'm counting on my good looks to make money by gulling poor innocent men. Rubbish! The reason I play a female in the game is that when I play a game I like the scenery to be pleasant - nothing more - and the players who meet me in the game know it's a role-playing game right up front - it says so on the game box. If they really think that everyone is playing themselves they're fooling themselves. As an entertainer I've met a lot of female characters in the game, and I never once wondered what sex the players behind those characters were - I didn't consider it because it doesn't matter. A player's real life identity has nothing to do with the game, and it's none of anyone's business. If you think I should not accept money in the game unless there's a good reason for getting it, then you need to play the game more, because often when money changes hands it's just because someone's feeling good enough to share it - is that messed up too? Also, if you think even a handful of the characters you meet in a role playing game look like the people who are controlling those characters you've got another think coming. |

SWG is my favourite. Not because it's all that good, but because there seems to be none better for my playstyle. I play an entertainer in SWG, and SWG is the only MMORPG where you have so many options as an entertainer. That's sad, given that the SWG entertainer profession has almost no content compared with the combat professions, but still, it's the best of a really bad bunch in terms of non-combat and non-crafting play |

Needless to say, I've never played a male in any 3rd person game where I've been offered the choice of male or female. Not that roleplaying a male character is something I'd never do, but the female form (even pixellated and cartoonish) is just more attractive to me. |

Lineage 2, no doubt, has the best armour. It doesn't look as if it would offer too much protection (or any, LOL), but it looks great. |

The problem with current MMORPGs is that most developer-generated content goes into the process of mastering, and it is pointless. Once you master, all you can basically do is turn around and do the whole thing over again with a new character. This is the dirty little secret of online gaming. The thing is, MMORPG designers consistently fail to develop alternative content unconnected with combat or mastering that might make the game deeper. They concentrate on making the grind more interesting and making combat more exciting, but in the end the grind and the result of the grind is not why we’re here. What’s important is the game world and how much fun we can get out of it ‘outside’ the limits of the grind. If there’s nothing there, no matter how interesting combat is, and no matter how palatable the grind can be made, the game will still leave us empty. This is why it’s so important for game designers to develop minigames and non-combat content. But at the moment game designers are moving away from that. Instead they are focusing in on combat more and more, as if there’s something there that can fill the vast creative void that is at the centre of most MMORPGs. The thing is, the people who make these games are looking in the wrong place. It’s not about combat. The more they look to combat to fill that void, the larger the void will become. Until they figure out that it’s all about the richness of the world and the depth of our options, MMORPGs will always have that feeling that they’re missing something. The first game designer who realises the truth will be on the gravy train. |
