MOST mmo's dont require a credit card for the trials they offer. I think it is silly to do so. It is an ancient practice. How many require a credit  card? Ultima online...Dark Age of Camelot....ummm....ummm......

Those that dont? EQ2,EVE, LOTRO, WOW, COH,COV,AC,DDO,EQ1 ans countless others...I mean it just is a small minority that still do that...it hurts to not have a more accessible trial of their game I think. but just my 2cents

Thanks alot for your time and effort put into the post. Really speaks to how much you care for the game to write that much in the defense of it. I am downloading the trial now and will put me graphics reservations aside lol  thanks again.

I just let my trial expire. I liked the basic idea of the game. The crafting seemed to be more important than alot of games which I liked. The ability to play a dragon  is cool, personally I played an elf. Multiclassing is great. But the graphics are really really dated. If they looked at least as good as DAoC I could deal with it but they were really bad. I hate the threat of being flamed for being a "graphics whore" but they were really  turned me away from the game. Is there any talk of an update there in the future?

Conan is more than popular enough to warrent an MMO...In Europe and The US it has always had a strong presence in fantasy lovers. The Conan world and lore is different than other fantasy worlds. There is a harshness to it. It seems grounded in reality more. That appeals to alot of people I think. It does to me anyways. I love Conan and always have. The Howard books were my first fantasy works read and Frank Frazetta's art work is something I still love and have replicas of. The Decamp and Carter and Robert Jordan Conan books were great as well.

Though I agree that a (true)D&D MMO would be great. (What I mean by that is something set in the Forgotten Realms or hell even Ravenloft lol)  The Conan world is the perfect setting for an MMO and I personally cant wait!

oh and an ocean's twelve or wrestling MMO? seriously?

I dont play LOTRO but I was in beta and have done the trial. I liked the game for the world and the graphics and the little things that I thought were done really well. Like the music system crafting and such....but the one thing that kept me and my wife from subing was the class selection. The classes are too few...I couldnt find a class that I enjoyed well enough and even if I could have, my wife didnt like any of them at all.

That was really it for us. We just didnt like the class selection. Not enough options in the classes. The game is well made though and runs well.

The Concepts seem promising. The RvR idea was something I have never experienced before having never played DAoC. So I am looking forward to WAR but I hope that there is a trial of sorts. Not a fan of MMO's that dont offer one. Also hope that it wont be a game that a mostly PVE player wont have a place in the world.

The future of online gaming!!! lol

WOW clone madness wasnt the reason that Warhammer was being made. At all. Work on that game has been around for a long while. In many forms, until settled on what it has been for the past 3 and a half years. It is a continueing the work done in pvp and seige warfare that was started in daoc. WOW has nothing to do with it. Evercrack is more responsible than WOW is for the clonewars of the mmo landscape.

WOW also isnt the reason Conan was being developed. Two fantasy MMO's that are very different than just  WOW  clones. Aiming, sure for a million subs...and WAR might get it. The market just has a larger hunger for MMO's than in the past. The numbers prove it. Xbox live, Playstation network ,hell even Nintendo finally jumped online lol Online social gaming is a standard for gaming now. Early MMO's and FPS created a hunger for it not just WOW. I also think most developers understand that gaining WOW numbers is a bit of a stretch. But a million? Very doable....WOW has 2 million subs in North America there is room for a few more here.

To make another Fantasy MMO is not stupid. Even with only 100k subs an MMO is going to pull in a million and a half a month so if EQ2 can pull in 2.5 to 3 million a month then that is good. WOW didnt set out to have 10 million subs. They made the game to be profitable with 150 to 200k subs. They had no idea that it was going to blow up like that. (Though I am sure they have loved counting every dollar they get lol)

I think the linear, as one poster said, will help sandbox games, only if it can show a publisher that it can make money. I think EVE has done that. But EVE isnt main stream enough to convince alot of bigger publishers to take a risk on one. The game developers make their games out of a passion for what THEY want to play. For what THEY want to make. Then they shop the game around to a publisher in the hopes that it will get picked up. I think alot of MMO's start in development as more sandbox and as timelines and budgets restrict their growth, they remove more and more features to please publishers and share holders by rushing the game to market. MMO's are not the only game genre that falls prey to that. (Fable or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.  anyone?) So in the end Sandbox MMO's can work but it is going to take a really patient publisher and a really passionate developer to pull it off well enough to make it a huge hit. Darkfall looks to be a good example but lets see if it ever comes out lol  just my 2cents
