To me those specs seem very good though. To put things into perspective, here are the specs of my laptop:

AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500 2.20 GHz

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I realize that there are very few new games that will run smoothly on this system even on low settings, but I wanted to ask just in case. The thing is that I don't play so much anymore, and that's why I don't feel like spending money on a new system. Not to mention that I really can't afford one. Looks like I'll have to keep my eyes open for other interesting indie projects. ;)

Thanks! Based on the videos I've watched of the game, those requirements are surprisingly low. Having said that, I would be playing the game on a 3 year old laptop that meets some of the requirements just barely. I'm guessing that would make it impossible to run the game smoothly when there's a lot of action on the screen, even with everything on low?
I'm unable to find the system requirements for this game. Does anyone here have a clue what they might be?
Dungeon Game

It's not an mmo, but if you're a fan of Dungeon Keeper, you might want to check this out. Hive Keeper is essentially a Dungeon Keeper 2 remake created with the Starcraft 2 map editor. It appears to still be in development, but I tried it by the end of last year and it looked quite promising, and I think there's been a lot of features added since then.
Based on what I've read, Mists of Pandaria might have what you're looking for, although it's not on the market yet.

The problem is that even if you can buy anything with in game currency, as long as there's an item mall that provides players with any items that provide any kind of in-game benefits then it's a pay to win mmo in my eyes, even though there obviously are mmo's where the items available on the item malls aren't overly overpowered, but these games still don't really appeal to me.

Also, I'd just like to point out that there are some pretty decent mmo's out there with item shops that only sell aesthetic upgrades (path of exile for instance) that provide no game play advantage and only gives your characters a unique look. Having said that, I haven't been able to find an mmo with decent crafting where the item shop would be limited to aesthetic upgrades, and by now I'm fairly certain that there are none.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I'm starting to realize that I don't really have many options when it comes to (completely) FTP crafting mmo's with all content available without extra payments. I'm also completely aware of how cheap monthly subscriptions of mmorpg's generally are, and I know that I'd be hard pressed to find a cheaper hobby short of jogging etc. The thing is, however, that it's not about not being able to afford it.

I can't really explain it in a way that makes sense, since I suppose it doesn't, but every time I've payed for an mmo subscription I've been playing the specific game a lot, and that's why I haven't had a problem with it, but I can't stand the idea of paying 15 euros per month and then playing 5 hours that month even if the price still isn't that high. I'm just in the mindset that there are so many better things that I could spend that money on now that I only plan to play very casually, so the idea of not playing an mmo sounds better to me than paying for one and only playing very little, especially considering that I'm a poor student. :P

Thank you for the replies. The problem I see with all of these games (the ones that interest me anyway), is that they have a premium mode that you still have to pay for in order to get access to all the content. I know this isn't exactly the same as pay to win so I should have stated it separately, but this is a deal breaker for me as well. I'm starting to think that I'll either have give up my hopes of finding a FTP mmo of my liking and be forced to pay to play EVE online, or the much more likely alternative that I'll just stop playing mmo's altogether. SC2 pretty much meets all my pvp needs anyway and I really don't feel like paying for a monthly fee or a premium mode to get access to all the content of an mmo I might like, when I play so little in the first place.

I'd really like to find a free to play mmorpg where crafting and trading plays a big role. It would also be a very big plus if you could focus entirely on crafting/harvesting/manufacturing/trading and wouldn't be forced into combat. Even so, I'd prefer the game to have some manner of pvp and pve as well, and it shouldn't be pay to win.

A game that I've played before and is closest to what I'm looking for would be EVE online, but since it isn't free to play I will have to pass. I know that you can pay the monthly fee with in game currency but I can't play the game enough to afford that. I'm a very casual player and it might sound silly but if I pay a monthly fee for a game I feel that I should play it a lot and I just end up getting stressed out, that's why the free to pay model is an absolute must for me.

Is there any game on the market that fits my description?

Thank you for the reply. I'd be fine with an average fps of 30+, but 20 does sound too low, not to mention below that. Looks like I'm going to have to pass on the game for now, maybe I'll give it a try in a couple of months or a year once the price has gone down just to see how I'll be able to run it.

I'd be interested to give swtor a shot but my laptop is very old and I have my doubts about it being able to run the game properly, if at all. Unfortunately money is really tight right now and I can't afford, nor am I willing to buy a new computer in order to run one game I might like. That's why I'd simply want to know if I'll be able to run swtor with my laptop with everything on low with decent fps, or if I'm better off not buying the game. Here are my system specs:

AMD Turion(tm) II Dual-Core Mobile M500 2.20 GHz

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Series

4 GB of RAM

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I've been able to play cataclysm just fine with no fps issues with this laptop, but at the same time I know swtor is more demanding than wow. The thing is that I've played games with outdated systems before, and if the fps is too low I simply can't enjoy the game no matter how well it is made. That's why I'd really appreciate it if I could get some honest opinions so that I don't spend a lot of money on a game that I'll be unable to enjoy because of performance issues. Thank you.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I appreciate the help. Having said that, after giving a try (admittedly a very short one) on a few games mentioned here, I've decided to just give up on mmo's for the time being. I think I might instead mod the crap out of baldur's gate and play through the series, or something along these lines. I never have played through BG2 and tob on insane with tactics mod and ascension installed, and this seems like as good a time as any to give it a go. ;)

Thank you for the replies. I might give some of these games a chance. I guess the main reason for my scepticism is that most games that have been mentioned are in one way or another very similar to wow. I realize each of them have their unique qualities but I'm still hoping to find something more different. Remember, graphics aren't all that important to me, a few weeks ago I actually tried to play some muds, and I would probably have kept playing if it wasn't for the fact that even very basic things seemed overly complicated to do.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've always been under the impression that EQ2 and wow are very similar, and even if that's not the case I'm almost certain that EQ2 pve has a similar focus on raids that wow does, and this really isn't my cup of tea. As for Vanguard, I've heard a lot of good things about the game, but the thing is that if the lack of players wouldn't bother me, I think I would rather play UO. Someone also sent a pm to me and suggested rift, but the problem is that I have a fairly old laptop and I wouldn't feel like playing a game with constant fps problems, not to mention that I can't afford to replace my laptop if it explodes.

The truth is, I'm starting to wonder if there even is an mmorpg out there that would be able to peaque my interest anymore. I've found myself much less interested in gaming lately, and to make it worse all the titles that seem promising to me are still in development and they are months or years away from launch. :(

I haven't touched an mmorpg after I bought cataclysm (played it for about two weeks), and now I'm considering to give the genre another try. Here are the most important things I'm looking for:

- Good PVE content is a must

- Good crafting system

- Lots of players

- A free trial would be a plus

I don't really mind if the game has poor graphics or if it's old, but I don't want to play a game that is dying either. I've played too many mmo's to name, but I'd prefer a medieval fantasy game that is not wow. Games I'm currently considered are UO and LOTRO.

I used to play Ultima Online on many different free shards years ago, and it's probably my favorite mmo of all time. I like the crafting in UO, the housing system is the best of any mmo I've ever seen, the skill system allows for loads of different builds (including tamer builds which are awesome!) and pve-wise the game allows you to go boss hunting without forcing you to commit hours into it. Having said that, I'm fairly certain the game doesn't have lots of players anymore.

LOTRO on the other hand probably has much more players than UO does nowadays. I hear LOTRO also has a great crafting system as well as pve. I'm just worried that LOTRO has the same type of pve that wow does, which forces you to join large raid groups to take down raid bosses which in turn can take hours at a time, and this just really isn't for me, because I've got enough experience of that from wow to tell that after a couple of days or weeks it just starts feeling like work.

Out of these two alternatives I am definitely leaning towards UO, but the small player base definitely bugs me. That's why I'm hoping to get some more suggestions from you guys.

I tried AO roughly 6 months ago, and I enjoyed it a lot until I eventually got bored of the repetetive quests and content. I think I got to lvl 7x while playing, so I never got to experience more than leveling and some minor pvp. That's why I'm curious to know what people on these forums think of the endgame in AO (both pve and pvp). Also how is the game doing overall? What I mean by this is whether or not the game is still growing, if so do you think a new server might open at some point etc.? How crucial is the cash shop if you want to do pvp at high levels?

The main reason why I'm thinking about returning to AO is that I have the option to play free (poor student here), and AO is one of the most original and unique mmorpgs I've ever played. I liked the little pvp that I took part in (Especially the way you could build up your formation in so many different ways), I liked the fact that guilds are able to control towns and (if I understood correctly) fight over the control of towns and I also liked the crafting system. I even liked the pve dungeons I took part in with my guild, and I thought the endgame raids sounded interesting even though I never got the chance to try them. Still, there's a big chance that if I return to AO the same thing will happen again and I will end up quitting before I get to a high enough level.

Hopefully your answers will help me decide if I should return to this game or not. Thank you for your time.

Sorry to bump my own thread but I'm still unable to find the Vanguard guild thread that NovaKayne mentioned in post #5 and I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a link to the thread. Thank you.

EDIT: I've also tried to use the search function without any luck.

I have to suggest Aion also. Even if the game had too much grinding for my liking, it has easily the best character customization out of any game I have ever played. It also has very nice graphics imo. Also I'd like to point out that I played Aion for roughly a month after it was launched, so it's very likely that they have added a lot more content by now. Anyway, the main reason I stopped playing so quickly was because my old computer couldn't run the game too well. Definitely worth a try if you're into pvp.

Thank you for the suggestions. Guild Wars is actually on the list of games I've already played mentioned in my first post. I liked Guild Wars but I ended up dropping it for wow. As I recall the game revolves mainly around pvp, with quite weak pve as I can remember. Has that changed? If I don't have anything else to play by the time Guild Wars 2 comes out, I'll definitely give it a shot. It just feels kind of late to start playing Guild Wars (1) at this point, but maybe that's just me.

As for age of conan, I've given it a lot of thought. I've actually read that the game has been going through a lot of changes after it's disasterous launch, and that the game is actually starting to look quite promising. I also like the fact that the game probably has a considerably more mature community than most other mmorpg's. The thing that has kept me away from aoc are the high system requirements and the fact that (according to what I've read) it's quite similar to wow.

I play on a laptop, and not a very powerful one. I know that this might not be the right place to ask this, but keeping in mind that many people that read this forum probably have played aoc, maybe you could tell me if I can run the game with decent fps (even if it's with everything on low) with my current laptop. My system specs are the following:

Windows 7 Home premium (64-bit)

Turion(tm) II Dual-Core Mobility M500 2,2GHz

ATI Mobility Radeon 4650HD

4 GB memory

Please note that I do know the system requirements of aoc, and I'm not asking this out of lazyness. It's just that I have had some bad experience with mmo's with high system req's before. That is, my computer has reached the recommended system requirements and I've still experienced crazy amounts of lag (that was not on this computer though).

I must say that I'm leaning more and more towards FF14 though (when it comes out), even if it lacks pvp, as based on what I've read it seems to be the most unique mmorpg to come out this year.

Check out the threads on Vanguard.  There is a guild forming mainly of MMORPG.COM players.  At least 50 on so far.  There is a free trial you can download and try.  Jump in the mmorpg chanel for an instant invite to the guild.

The idea was everyone said it was a good game but the population was too low or was a concern.  So, a group decided to form a guild of MMORPG.COM people to play and always have someone to group with.  Crafting is interesting ( I do not craft ) and there is a mini-card game for Politics.  PvE is the focus and unless you get on the PvP server it is pretty much non-existant.

Since there haven't been many other suggestions, I decided to give Vanguard a shot and I'm just about to create a trial account. I'm having trouble finding this thread or channel you're talking about though, could you point me in the right direction please? More game suggestions would be welcome also.
