Aika: gPotato Restricts Access to North American Users Only
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/07/10 3:27:43 PM
Originally posted by Murashu I don't believe they've officially said why but the reason is due to HanbitSoft (the developer) deciding to start a global version that appears will be running in-house. I guess the question is why and how this all happened. I think it's a safe assumption that gPotato didn't expect Hanbit would do this, but at the same time, were they that negligible to never get the stone cold facts or is it a matter of talks between the two companies going down the shitter after the initial deal was made? |

Originally posted by erickdefores Depends on what you're looking for. Alethius - Zerg #1. Feonir - Zerg #2. Lenaria - Third in population and seems to be a little more PvE centric than PvP. Ostyrion - Fourth or fifth in population. Tend to come across as disorganized and chaotic as their nation description says. Vanov - Fourth or fifth in population. It's the nation I know the least about, so I can't speak on the community.

Originally posted by SlyLoK You can still PK your own nation in the PvE channel (which I agree is inappropriately named), but the penalty is extremely steep so people who go on a killing spree will get to enjoy up to 24 hours of in-game time doing next to nothing. The differences between channels is the RvR aspect and being able to travel to the other nations, as well as a minor difference or two, such as mobs having 5% less HP in PvP, but I believe also have a 5% increase in attack or defense. I think the drop rate might be a hair different as well, but don't take my word for it. |

Originally posted by Honeymoon69 1. Not true, otherwise relics wouldn't change hands as often as they do. During a raid the only time a defending nation will sit at the rift is after they've pushed back the invading nation to it. 2. Five guilds can create a guild alliance, so not every guild participating in CS will be a large one. And any Level 2 guild can sign up if they want to and have the entry fee. Your ten minutes comment is also dead wrong, as most of the Sieges in CB2 lasted a half hour or more (Lenaria's lasted the full hour because no one could take it). The only one that from what I heard went quickly was the one in Vanov, as there was less competition and SGX had a lot more high-level players, allowing them to steamroll to the center. 3. Alethius, Feonir, and Lenaria are full of people, especially the first two. Vanov had a considerably lower population in CB2, which was hampered afterwards by the Feonir/Vanov alliance and a bunch of Vanov players jumping ship to Feonir. Ostyrion on the other hand has a horrible reputation, so most folks steer clear of that nation. |

Originally posted by Plutonicwoes After the Allods crap, I honestly don't see why anyone is giving gpotato a second look these days. I have no beef with f2p games, but gpotato has shown to be one of the worse in terms of "pay 2 win" ripoff games. I thought the issue with Allods were the prices, not the content, which I am talking about.
gPotato could make big changes to the cash shop, but I don't see what they could add to make someone OP in a mass PvP game where you can get taken down in a matter of seconds. |

Originally posted by Nihilist Variation visually isn't there, but the crafting brings a bit of variety to set yourself apart from the pack.
The cash shop won't have anything OP if gPotato stick to what's in the other versions. |

Chat isn't the most intuitive thing in the world, but it works just fine for me.
See, I personally like that I don't have to hit a key for my default attack a million times.
While I agree that it is misleading and stupid that they added the terms PvE and PvP to the title of the channels (I've read they are not present in the other versions), I can't possibly disagree more about the "your own faction can gank you all they want" comment. Killing a member of your own nation debuffs you, and if you kill enough it'll basically cripple you by removing all EXP gain, not allowing you to speak to any NPCs, etc. And at full effect it's an incredibly long in-game time debuff, which god bless anyone who's willing to endure that at the expense of an hour of all-out ganking fun. So while yes, there are some who will do it anyway, most players are interested in fighting the other nations and not with their own.

There's no such thing as a true beta or alpha test in an Asian port.
The game is already live in other countries. We're simply getting what's already there. The game you see in Alpha and Closed Beta is essentially what you're going to see in Open Beta. Any future updates excluding localization fixes (grammar/spelling/rewrites) have already been made and dictated by the developer. The publishers that port these games over have little to no say in how the game is improved, otherwise there wouldn't be so many shitty ones that fail to ever get any better.
All this Beta stuff is merely used to test the servers, fix localization errors, and get the publicity train rolling. |

Black Prophecy: gamigo AG to Publish; Goes F2P
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/10 4:07:14 AM
As mentioned right above me, I too would imagine the decision was a last resort for Reakktor. Either they couldn't find a better deal because it's a space-oriented MMO which is a real niche in the market, or they have a half-finished product that couldn't impress potential investors and we're going end up getting a work in progress at "launch".
Having been around the block a few times, I'm assuming it's the latter but hoping it's the former. |

General: Four Signs Your Guild Isn't For You

Originally posted by Etra *Psst* Other way around... No, that's correct. The game was developed by Multiterm (later becoming Fenix Soft) and originally published by Square Enix, who canned it after a few months under the PlayOnline banner. Gamepot then picked it up and dropped the subscription, which led to the game finding success in Japan. Square Enix's name is still attached as I assume they still own the trademark/copyright, and thus get a cut of Gamepot's profits.
SE's mention is merely being used to stir interest.

Originally posted by LukePlumber It's not that people want the game to fail. sorry, but "I can’t wait for something to go wrong" really doesn't sound all that friendly and hoping to me The comment wasn't aimed directly at him, otherwise I would have said he and not people. I certainly don't know Mrbloodworth's history so I can't speak for him in the least. |

Darkfall: Interview with Tasos Flambouras
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/04/08 12:38:03 PM
Originally posted by LukePlumber Tasos was completely right. Why do you people WANT a game to fail? Why don't you want to increase the bar for MMORPGs and hope for the standart to get better? We can probably all agree the last years haven't been exactly the best MMORPGs in general have seen so don't you think it's time for a succesful release now? It's not that people want the game to fail. It's just that some are very realistic with their expectations and for them, the writing has seemingly been on the Darkfall wall for quite some time. I'd like to see Darkfall deliver and be successful, but with everything I've seen and read and heard, I'm ready for when the game finally drops and this forum erupts upon discovering that the finished product is a far cry from what has been promised all along. I'd love to be proved wrong but the past speaks for itself with regards to indie MMO's and it hasn't been pretty. And time after time those of us who are skeptical have been waiting for the Darkfall ship to turn around and show true promise, not just a lot of hot air and smoke up our asses. This interview was more of the same as far as I'm concerned. |

We are INCREDIBLY interested in Darkfall(and all new MMOs for that matter). Not to sound rude, I eman you';re entitled to your opinion, but would you have preferred I ask what his favorite color was? I hope it's blue.

Just for the hell of it... Best graphics from a Free 2 play mmorpg you ever seen?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/30/08 12:21:11 PM
Sword Of The New World would definitely get my vote. Not only is it graphically more pleasant on the eyes than the other games listed, but the architecture and scenery I got to see through the early levels were really well done. |
