That depend of your budget, so can you give use more info?

ehe i know that suck!

At first i coulnd even install the game, the client was crashing every time, i had to unsintall my 3d card and go with my internal card just for installing the game. dont ask me why i had to do that..

You can go to the event viewer in control panel, administration tools. Look what kind of critical error you get. This can tell you what software is in conflicts.

At the point you are maibe going back to the basics will help you. Scan disc, defrag, re-install directx, drivers and even the game if you still have the patch files.

I'd have to agree with you, but some users are simply not comfortable using services like MegaUpload, etc. There has been reports of people catching viruses too, so this is a lot more secure :P

Torrent has nothing to do with megaUpload or direct downlaod and since the updater of SE is a torrent client or p2p, you use their torrent files so their are safe. I cannot say the same thing with open port tough.

Even for using BitTorrent, I had to open up a few ports to improve my connection. It's safe in this case.

(For those wondering while this is the subject, BitTorrent requires ports 6881 to 6889 and sometimes 6969 to 7000 (all TPC/UDP))

Again i dont do it manually i use eset nod32 for firewall so the open port is automatic but there are close right after and this is random ports.

Anyway in any case people do it the way they want i just do it manually i dont like that.

I don't mind manually opening up patches with during OB but they better have this patcher fixed before launch.  Especially considering S.E. loves to patch in small doses.

I agree with you but for now this is the way around.

well, I think I am keeping my pre order too, but damned if I can actually play the Open beta since it seems like it is taking forever just to download the thing with that patcher.

i've let it download for over 40 hours but its still at 29%,   first time in my life i have this problem with downloading an MMO or beta-version MMO....

I've stated this in a different thread but to increase the download speed you will need to open up Ports. The FFXIV Downloader works based on a Peer To Peer system, just like BitTorrent and such and requires you to open ports to ease connections to the sources (seeders).

The ports you need to open are as followed:

UDP - 55296 - 55551
TCP - 54992 - 55551
UDP - 443

And to learn how to open ports PortForward has some pretty easy tutorials on how to open Ports for almost every Router there is.

I've opened up the ports myself and my download time dropped from 26 hours to 3-4 hours.

That another way to do it but i prefer torrent i dont like manually open ports.

Nice , I can't find any users on Ares... anyone have an idea of a more safe and secure free torrent downloader? i hate adding crap to my computer like this. /sigh

Im not sure to understand what you want but if you need a torrent client, utorrent is a good one.

I'm extremely disappointed here. They really need to fix this thing.

You cant downlaod the game with the updater? Torrent is your friend. Yeah i know this is not cool to have to pass the update with third party but still for now this is the best way and it fast.

i expalin how to do it there:

The "Oh it must be your PC" brigade need to pipe down.

There are massive sequences of lag from server to client even on Decent PC's with fast net connections. And if you are one of the hallowed few seeing seamless gameplay, then you should be thankful of that, and not try to cripple the tweaking process by saying that people should upgrade as opposed to SE fixing their buggy code.

I have a decent Rig that plays Crysis on Max at 35fps quite happily. I have no mouselag and no UI lag in any game I have tried before FFXIV and I have a 20mb/1.5mb connection that is rock solid.

Unsheathing takes 3-4 seconds, firing off the first skill lags, trying to sell to a shopkeeper is a chore not worth repeating (15 seconds per item due to the page flipping and delays therin) and since the "Miracle patch" I have seen city lag and rubberbanding increase a heck of a lot.

Im a supporter of the game, but im not a blind idiot willing to overlook its issues.

I will stick with my statement that it must be your pc or your network. The game has problem, lags, ui etc but still i dont have this 5 sec lags, if you do maibe you try to play the game with too high setting your pc can handle. And the: I can play this game at high settings comment is off subject since we all know that there is no PC for the moment who can runs fine the game at higher settings.

Try to lower some setting, uncheck ambient occlusion and depth of depth of field and  lower the buffer size.

could you please post how you can do this? I have about 26 hours of having to install this thing, and really that is inaccurate because I have been installing for hours now and it has said 26 hours all this time.

This is ridiculous, SE you need to fix this thing, I preordered this game and this is really causing me to have second thoughts, where I already had some to begin with.

I explain how to do it in page 8 of this thread....

I think it's pretty evident by now that if you liked FFXI you'll probably like FFXIV.

So, viewing FFXIV as an upgrade or sequel you'd probably be happy, as shown by this review.

Yes, but at the same time, just because you haven't played FFXI, or didnt like FFXI, doesn't mean you WONT like FFXIV.

I agree but most of the people who complaint about control, combat, crafting, well the gameplay of FFXI will complaint in FXIV. Just go see the FFXI forum and see, there is lots of post about control su..., no tutorial or learning curves, the combat is slow, no pvp etc etc etc.

For me FFXI is one of my best mmo, so i have no doubt about FXIV.

edit: Most of players who whine, didnt know a thing about this genre and they was waiting a modern wow or else mmo.

there def is a 5 second wait to go from passive to active, the same thing when you want to start crafting and a few other times. I really don't understand why that is.. but it is. I would like to see faster gameplay from this game, it does feel sluggish. Anyone who disagrees with that clearly hasn't played a moderm mmo.

Or we got a better pc and better connection than you cause i never had a 5 sec of delay, for me the combat is fairly fast, in fact i find it faster than FFXI, i cannot talk about crafting i didnt try it but still this is a beta stress test so lag is inevitable. Dont know why people cant understand that.

On your first point, it may be a weak analogy, but from what i've read the only reason the gamepad arguably makes the experience better is because the game is designed around it, and as a result they havent properly fleshed out the keyboard/mouse side of things to make it as playable as it should be.  This is something PC gamers have dealt with for a long time with crappy PC ports of console games.  Smart developers realize that this is a sale killer for the PC port and spend the proper amount of time fleshing out the PC side of things to ensure they dont hose their sales on the PC side.

On your second note.  I can safely speak for people who are strictly PC gamers.  Now, nowhere in that post does it say or imply that i am speaking for all gamers, i only implied im speaking for people who are stricly pc gamers.  Now, i am primarily a PC gamer, but i do on occasion play consoles, and will readily admit that a controller is an advantage for certain types of games.  Fighting games for example, racing games, platform games.  Some guys are unplayyable on a controller, RTS games like starcraft or Age of Empires, for example would be unplayable on a controller.  FPS games, though doable, are horrid on a controller.  MMORPG's by nature of their complexity and need for social communication are simply better suited to a mouse and keyboard.

On your third point, i as well have used ventrilo and teamspeak, and both are INFINITELY better than the one used in WKC.  The other advantage is because PC's are designed not to be proprietary, you have dozens of mic options, so while you get the occasional bad mic, as you said, generally the mic quality is better.  Also, the bandwidth of the codecs tends to be higher.

Consoles on the other hand are very limited, you generally can choose from the Sony / MS branded mic, or at best, logitech and madkatz, for other options.  Invariably the mics are designed not with sound quality in mind but with cheapness and "cool looks". As for FFXIV rewuiring a gamepad, i only was posting off what i read in here, there were a half dozen posts that said it was required.

Now, reading further i realize the issue is that the mouse/keyboard side of things is so bad that it might as well be required to have a game pad.

You can use only the keybaord and forget the mouse

Anyways, to touch on one last point you made, i think you underestimate the core PC gamer and how important the mouse and keyboard combo is.  For the person who is 80% or better a PC gamer, they wouldnt give up their mouse and keyboard for anything.

Im im mostly a PC gamer i rarely touch consol. I dont even have a PS3 or a xbox360, but still i dont care to play with a controller if this is better. I dont limit myself to a keyboard or a mouse these are merely tools, that just doesnt make sense to me. Here an example:

Let say I like painting and i mostly use a brush and oil paint If i follow your logic i will never use pastel because im a brush painter? No sometimes i will use pastel if i want i dont limit myself to only 1 tools.

Anyway i dont mind using a controller in FXIV but that just me.

I know some enjoy playing with a controller on pc, but the simple fact is this: Its a PC game, and people expect to use a Keyboard and Mouse for a PC game. Its simple. I don't know why so many people can't understand this simple fact. Making a functional and working Keyboard/Mouse system is easy, and the fact that they still haven't done a fix shows that they don't care what we want in the game.

No its not easy since the game is a PS3 design game. Let me explain! since you will play with player who play with a PS3, they cannot create keboard and mouse control like any other game. Why? We all know that the mouse is faster then a joystick so this will give an advantage to pc player. So to be fair they focus on the controller control and slow thing with the keybaord/mouse. Just simple.

Like many I was anticipating this game for months, After finally getting to play the game I can only shake my head and move on. This game needs a delay and BAD. I truly hope the launch of this games flops just so SE wakes up and fixes the problems people have been telling them to for months.

I dont think the game will flops, but that just my opinion. SE had made wonderful work with FFXI, but again most of peoples who complaint about FXIV dont like FFXI for mostly the same reasons. Like controls and slow-spaced combats, slow crafting etc. Yes there is lags but as far has i know this is stress test so hopefuly this will be fix at launch. For the unfinish thing or lacks of content (if their is a lack of content, we will see at launch) i dont care since im not a hardcore player anymore who play 8+ hours a days so i will still have fun until SE put more content.

I will still continue to watch and wait for the fixes the game needs and hope that the game goes in a better direction.

i would like one please;)

10-12 years ago when Final Fantasy was cranking out their games we all loved them but its a new milennium now, games and UI functions have been improved and there is no need for anyone to have to play under these conditions.  Final Fantasy XIV will prove that Square Enix is an aging company that is stuck in their old school ways.  They will go the way of Joe Piscopo and Dice Clay.

Maibe the game will fail but i dont think so. A lots of people has said the saem for FFXI and still do but guess what the games is still there.

arghh mate it has nothing to do with bots, thottbot is just an information DB that was created for WoW, its just a place where you can find all sorts of info pretty much every MMO has a website where you can go to find stuff out FF wont be any different, no one will read quest texts and barely anyone even likes them, I believe I saw an interview some time ago where they talked about how long the average MMO gamer spends reading quest text and it was around 3-5 seconds, games should invest in chats, voice acting and events where you see the story unfold instead of having to read some static text about how the NPC is so sad and crying while he is standing there like a statue.

First you should calm down mate, secondly i know what is thobot you dont have to explain it. The facts is i dont care if people create website with all info about quest or if they create third party plug in like quest helper since i will not use them. In a single player game their is always trainers or cheats but that doesnt matter i dont use them.

Now the quest story in FFXIV for what i have seen so far you have to read to know where to go there is no marker and you have cut scene too. That what i like about this game. Now why we talk about that? because i was answering to someone what is the first thing i like about this game so maibe you use website to get info and you dont read the story but i do so what is so hard to understand about the way i like to play??

The only things who has marker on the map are guildleves who has not much to do with the story.

Lol this is funny reminds me of ppl talking about Secret World having puzzle quests, yeah right lol until a thottbot or some other website comes along that everyone just tabs to see where to pickup all the quests and where to go exactly without reading anything doesnt matter how you slice the games quests will be exactly the same as every other mmo ppl will know where to pick them and where to go and it will be all on some DB.

Until SE decides to add the quest markers because its pointless not having them.

So you said.. this is just a matter of opinion, i prefer a game who dont have this. For the thottbot argument i dont care since if they do create a bot for this i will not use it. And third party plug in dosent work well with SE.

round you? You dont because your eyes was on the arrow. That my friend this is not exploration.

What are you talking about, what arrow? On other MMOs I take a quest, see where I have to go (possibly the game will tell me without having to read the quest) and complete it. On this game I take a quest, see where I have to go (game does tell me where to go through the location info from the quest log) and complete it with the disadvantage that 90% of this game is based on strict paths you have to take and not based on an open world, which is exactly the opposite of what you are trying to say.

Lol this is useless talk, what arrow? in wow by exemple. When you take a quest you got this arrow in from of your character, so you just have to follow. You got the same thing in lotro. And im sure a lots of other game have this feature. This is call quest helper.... In FXIV you got mark on your map for the guildleves, but that all. The newbie quest where this is in fact some sort of a city visit, you have to read the quest to know where to go.
