Originally posted by Aragon100No, because the game they "restarted" was still friggin Darkfall so, like it or not, the game has been in development since 01. Okay, I will apologize for getting on him for spelling. That is uncalled for, and I posted that out of being annoyed after trying to read through those responses, but all of that aside I have nothing against Darkfall either way. If it releases good for the fans, if not too bad for them, but it has actually been in development since 01. Restarting doesn't restart the clock...could you imagine a pro sports team "restarting" a play, and expecting the timer to restart? |

Do you remember the days of EQ1 when . . .
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 3/20/08 4:35:30 PM
I remember when gear was an afterthought, and grouping was meaningful. You would be in a group with the same people for hours on end, and had downtime to talk and actually build friendships. I remember my first guild, Well of Souls, and how nice everyone was. It seemed there was ALWAYS someone willing to help out, and as a result I was always willing to help someone else. I remember being younger and having time to play as opposed to working every day, and having to sleep and pay bills. =/ I remember the slower pace of the game, and how level cap was a dream (which I never reached BTW) and seemed soooo far off. I also remember dinging 20 and having a GM give me my surname. I remember him denying 1 or 2 before I got mine too =P I remember gobbies in HH, and getting a sword off of one that I actually used. I remember getting a Black iron bastard sword, and scarab carapace breastplate from my guild and it being like christmas. So many good memories from EQ, and there are millions where that came from. I do have hope that one day a game will come out with a world similar to norrath, that can inspire so many emotions. Norrath could inspire Awe, fear, greed, happiness, and so much more. Adventures were REAL back then because they were unscripted, unknown, and you had the freedom to explore at will. I sincerely hope that one day a game will come out to match, or rival EQ but I don't see it happening for a while. MMO's are mainstream now which means that, at least for the time being until the fad passes, there will be a definitive style to all games that come out. It's the same thing with music, or movies. Remember when every stupid movie that came out was about some natural disaster that pwns the world? |

Originally posted by Liss Ah, the old newbie log in nek. I remember trying to grab firebeetle spawns before anyone else could hit them to get my beetle eye. I also remember running around invis as my DE necro in freeport and sneaking up behind people and telling them I was a DE. BTW I played on a PvP server so these people would then search desperately for me to try and kill me =P I remember my first trek to Kunark, and how awesome it was to dodge the spiders and swim down the river. A real sense of adventure there, unlike these modern games that lead you from place to place. I miss not knowing where the heck I should be, and wandering into a zone WAY too high for me. Oh, and boy do I remember Lavastorm.... |

Maybe it's like one of those movies where a guy and girl meet, become best friends, and then right when the girl is getting married the guy realizes he loves the girl and then shows up at the wedding and ruins the potential grooms life by stealing the woman he loves.....yeah, maybe it s something like that =P |

Originally posted by SouldrainerIf you are so adamant about the table top rules, and so staunchly against any changes then why don't you just continue to play the tabletop game? Honestly, all trolling aside, whats the point of coming here and complaining about it? Just play the table top and get the exact experience you are saying DDO lacks. Once they release the online client with ruleset 4 you'll be all set to play the closest thing to an MMO version of the actual PnP ruleset and life will be as it should. Until then, do yourself a favor and play it the way you enjoy it, on the table.

I finally downloaded my client and extracted once the download was done, but not when I open the folder that it was extracted to the .exe file in there doesn't do anything. I double click it and the little hour glass comes up, but then nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this? |

Originally posted by Souldrainer Oh cry more. Seriously, you cannot compare the tabletop game to an MMO, atleast not pre ruleset 4. If you want to play online with DnD rules wait till they release the online client with version 4. Until then move on and shut up. No one cares that you and your miniatures are upset about the differences between TABLE TOP and DESK TOP.... If you cannot see the difference there then you need to stick to the dungeon you call a house and play with your 40 year old friends in tabletop only. I agree that a re-review would be good just to revisit the game and give a more accurate description of where it is at current to people looking to try it out. |

I don't know what everyone is talking about anyways. When I played VG back before GU#3 I felt that the customization was horrible anyways. There were 4 stupid looking faces, 4 stupid looking haircuts, and 5000000 sliders that changed nothing. They couldn't remove customization from the game because it wasn't ever there. Everyone looked the same, and they still do. To the OP I'm sorry that they finally lost you, but hopefully you can move on to a game that suits you better, and is actually ready for release. VG is still in Beta more than a year after release. Despite what anyone says that is completely unacceptable. To the idiot that posted earlier saying that is the nature of any MMO you are dead wrong. I've played almost every mmo to date since EQ1 and I can tell you that MMO's change, you are right about that, but paying for Beta is not the nature of the genre. You are stupid, and you are making excuses for paying for something that isn't ready to be paid for. Sorry for your ignorance, but I'm not ready to pay for beta. |

Originally posted by greymannThat is actually my main concern with WAR. I am petrified that it will be nothing but kill x quests, or delivery boringness. I play DDO currently and could never do another Fedex quest for the rest of my life and die happy. RVR will definitely define WAR's success, or lack there of. I played Daoc for a few months back when it first came out, and loved that aspect of the game. My fear is that there will be a lack of meaningful World PVP in WAR, as they are going to have instanced scenarios from early on. |

Originally posted by admiralnlsonAnd where did WoW clone it's mechanics? Ever heard of a little something called EQ? I will say this though, WoW's quest delivery system was in it's time very innovative, and for that I will concede that most games are cloning that one idea. I've played pretty much every MMO to day, aside from EVE and other sci fi games, and none before that I had played had that quest system. |

Originally posted by greymannYou see, I choose no side, I only responded to what I thought was unnecessary aggression. I don't think he had any right to assume anything about you, but it's the constant cries of "WoW-clone!!!1111111!!!1 ZOMG!!!" over and over and over and over and over again on these forums that get these guys so angry. Plainly put, and without any bias (as I was once a subscriber of WoW and personally have no issue with the game or with Blizzard), WoW's visual style is a derivative of Wahammer's art style that has been around since before Blizzard entertainment was a twinkle in it's creator's eyes. You cannot clone something that is in and of itself a clone of your own product. That would be like cloning yourself, and then cloning your clone, but hating the second clone because it is too similar to the 1st which was in fact similar to you in every way. Personally, I've always loved WoW's graphic style, and the way that the entire world lives and breathes in one cohesive art style. Every blade of grass is Azeroth, and I love that so I am personally ecstatic that Mythic kept that art style in their depiction of the Warhammer world. I am, however, glad they've upped the poly count, and made things a bit moodier, but thats just a personal preferrence. Oh, and as a response to something you said a few posts back about WAR 'living in WoW's shadow" I'll say this; Every release from here on out will unavoidably be compared to, and subsequently live in the shadow of WoW. 10 million subs, even including the 5 million chinese farmers, and dual accounts is an insanely large shadow.... *important note* The chinese farmer comment is purely a joke please do not misconstrue.... |

You sir are a nerd of the worst caliber....one that WoW has only made more prominent...the Elitest A-hole Nerd. Congrats on your new "Hero Class", or hero nerd class. Pomposity will get you nowhere my friend, we are all fans of the same genre of gaming. To most of society we are all nerds because of our chosen form of entertainment. Stop trying to seperate yourself, and please for the love of god stop trying to condescend. |

Dev Diary 5 Melee Combat Showcase and FAQ Update!!
General Discussion « Age of Conan 3/14/08 12:07:07 PM
Looks pretty good. The animations are stellar, my personal favorite is the rogue type guy that stabs the dude in the back of his neck. My only concern from watching that video is the lack of movement in combat. Everyone was just standing still swinging like crazy, but it's a beta video so I am hopeful they will have everything ready for launch. |
