I did not read this as I could tell from the title what it was going to be lol yeah eve vs sto.... I love eve and I know people who hate eve and played sto on release and decided to give eve another go lol.

STO is nothing more than Cryptic using their cookie cutter game engine over and over again and trying to milk thier customers of cash.

I sub when ever I can but money is tight these days so I keep my eve online sub active and when i got a bit extra cash I will sub to coh. I tried champions re-oreder etc same with STO both them games are just boring too solo focussed.

 The right game Won CCP work so hard on the game and keep giving us great expansions for free.

How else would you gain access to the Open Beta?  All the editions, including Basic, come with Open Beta access, and they will still be available once the Open Beta is in full swing.

Imo, an open beta is some sort of demo to know if I should purchase the game... I am really on the fence with that one. I am a huge Star Trek fan, but I played City of heroes and I got bored of it within the first 2 months and I played the free trial of Champion O, to give me a little idea about what to expect with Sto, but it was also boring.

Open beta is normaly the last testing phase and largest one to Iron out any bugs or problems that accure during this phase its larger than closed beta so they can stress test the server and see how it handles under pressure of a larger population (Aion is the most recent game that is a good example of this the server ground to a halt lol). It is not a demo/free trial for people who are intrested in the game as it is still a beta version of the game and not the final product, a free trial will come along a few months after release.

Also I hate to burst your bubble but people put exclusive goodies in Collector's Editions all the time. It's an industry standard practice. Anyone who really wants the uniforms that badly will not have a problem  paying an extra few dollars to achieve the status symbol. The idea is also to make those people unique and give them something special that not just anyone can have. It's a reward.

 

Xondar is spot on here. What happened to a level playing field. THis immediatley imbalances opportunities for those who have more cash fine in a single player game .... Ah but this is not.

The people aren't unique, they have not acheived or done anything special in game.

Cosmetic stuff cant realy moan about that being unfair as its not. Items that give Bonus's and what not maybe you can moan alittle but those Items you normaly out level within hours so not alot to moan about there. All MMO's give away some sort of pre-order Items that give those people who pre-ordered and bonus its just the way it is deal with it.

My thoughts exactly.  The Trill and the Borg Officer might have staying power.  I'm leaning towards the Trill.

Everyone can be a Trill the trill bonus is 5 skills/traits for the trill race that you would not normaly get cryptic have not said what the skills/traits are.

At character creation, a player can select Trill as a race. This unlocks special exclusive traits that enhance the character’s abilities. Note that the special abilities are the only exclusive aspect; players are still able to create Trills in the game. However, they will lack the Trill abilities.

 Its been pointed out that some of the pre-order stuff is tied into the retail key so people that want to use the trill traits or there connie during the head start are buggered coz you will not get your retail key till day of launch.

from what I understand she is a full crew member complete with her own borg technology and skills. Personally I'm broke so I just picked up the wal-mart version which if I am correct (about the percentage) gives you 40% more skill points at creation.

 I ordered the DDE version from direct2drive to get the Trill Traits and TOS uniforms but i also ordered the amazon version so I can get the borg and ds9 uniforms and a boxed copy.

Best thing is game time stacks! so I will get 60days playtime too.

I'm a long time city of hero player so when i found out about co i was very intrested the graphics are nice but the game is just lots of fluff doesn't nothing to keep me playing doesn't have the depth or feeling that coh has so i never continued playing after my first month and went back to city of hero's it might not be as pretty as CO but it has the content and the hero feeling.

Is it somewhat like SWG was in the old days in regards to community and crafting? One important aspect I'm curious about is can you setup shops or do you sell everything via the AH?

Yes its all AH and yes crafting is a huge part of the game but no its nothing like SWG in my opinion lol

P.S Small warning post above mentioned it fallen earth is realy fussy on what hardware it likes this is something the dev's should look into, fallen earth on my main desktop runs like crap but on my old one it runs better lol

FPS Jumps around and i get odd lag spikes 2fps in some places 20/30 in towns 80-150 desert.

old computer

Intel dual core 2.8ghz

2gb ram

geforce 6800 512mb

windows xp

FPS 30 in towns 70/80 everywhere else.

Normaly Double xp weekend is like every 6 months and well its not been that long since the last one.

But yeah the european servers population has been dropping for a long time now and in the last month and got worse.

The AE system was a good idea that should never have been added to the game, with the radio missions coh/cov became easy to solo lvl only needing to team for TF's etc which in my opinion was a bad thing.

AE farming became the only thing anyone wanted to do, No one teamed and did the story archs it has become power lvl to 50 and to flashback missions to get badges.

Sounds like playing pigging in the middle with systems as the reward.

That just means its like your standard MMO (wow/ etc) where the world is open and not made up of private instances like Guild wars is now. Im sure it will have more than one server or might just have shards. Only game i know that has one server is eve online.

Yes it looks very nice.

But! in my "Opinion" a game is ment to be a break from reality something to releave stress when a game has been designed to basicaly be a second job or a cash drain it is no longer a game.

Been waiting along time for this MMO but to be honest it does not look all that impressive MGN should of got someone like Cryptic studio's to devolope the game it would of turned out better.

In beta also. It does bring some things that are new and it has what you would expect from an mmo the point is it offers what coh does plus abit more and with a company that is has proven to bring good regular updates to game. People keep moaning about these Microtransactions.... they are simply extra character slots/costume packs etc which CoX has aswell.

The CoX devolopers  have forgotten their community, adding some face skins or adding a colour option to powers are not what should be considered an Issue update. AE Should be fixed or removed. At the moment they are just adding feactures you would of expected to be in the game a long time ago.

As i said, once the NDA has been lifted i will be more than happy to express my displeasure in detail.
