I'm a long time city of hero player so when i found out about co i was very intrested the graphics are nice but the game is just lots of fluff doesn't nothing to keep me playing doesn't have the depth or feeling that coh has so i never continued playing after my first month and went back to city of hero's it might not be as pretty as CO but it has the content and the hero feeling.

I've recently got aion and champions online (played open beta champions box steal sealed lol) as i pre-ordered them and i downloaded the trial of fallen earth (thanks mmorpg.com) and i realy enjoyed the game and have purchased it via their site (free atv :P).

I'm and eve online player have been for a long time and im used to sandbox games and well i dont want to go into huge details about the game as its late and im tired but i will give you a quick honest opinion about the game.

Its a sandbox game yes, its different yes and yes it has its problems it reminds me of how eve online started out its got the game structure there and some content to keep players happy for alittle bit but its still a work in  progress it needs alot of bug fixing and server issue's need fixing too (ASAP) once the core of the game is running smooth they should start adding content to the game (hoping its free content updates like eve online) but that being said there is heaps to keep players entertained for now! So in short give it a go.

Thanks for that.

Is it somewhat like SWG was in the old days in regards to community and crafting? One important aspect I'm curious about is can you setup shops or do you sell everything via the AH?

Yes its all AH and yes crafting is a huge part of the game but no its nothing like SWG in my opinion lol

P.S Would of given you a buddy key but it seems digital purchasers dont get them :(

P.S Small warning post above mentioned it fallen earth is realy fussy on what hardware it likes this is something the dev's should look into, fallen earth on my main desktop runs like crap but on my old one it runs better lol

Main computer:

intel core 2 quad 3.0ghz

4 gb ram

bfg Geforce GX280 1gb

Windows 7

FPS Jumps around and i get odd lag spikes 2fps in some places 20/30 in towns 80-150 desert.

old computer

Intel dual core 2.8ghz

2gb ram

geforce 6800 512mb

windows xp

FPS 30 in towns 70/80 everywhere else.

Normaly Double xp weekend is like every 6 months and well its not been that long since the last one.

But yeah the european servers population has been dropping for a long time now and in the last month and got worse.

The AE system was a good idea that should never have been added to the game, with the radio missions coh/cov became easy to solo lvl only needing to team for TF's etc which in my opinion was a bad thing.

AE farming became the only thing anyone wanted to do, No one teamed and did the story archs it has become power lvl to 50 and to flashback missions to get badges.

Sounds like playing pigging in the middle with systems as the reward.

This game sounds awesome. This tidbit caught my eye:

"The main difference in Guild Wars 2 is that it will all be a single, persistent world."

This gives me the hint that they are attempting to make single server ala Guild Wars, but add persistence to it? If this is so, this sounds amazing and I can't wait to see it.

Can't wait for this one.

That just means its like your standard MMO (wow/ etc) where the world is open and not made up of private instances like Guild wars is now. Im sure it will have more than one server or might just have shards. Only game i know that has one server is eve online.

Yes it looks very nice.

But! in my "Opinion" a game is ment to be a break from reality something to releave stress when a game has been designed to basicaly be a second job or a cash drain it is no longer a game.

Been waiting along time for this MMO but to be honest it does not look all that impressive MGN should of got someone like Cryptic studio's to devolope the game it would of turned out better.

CoX has nothing to worry about. CO is not bringing anything new or innovative in terms of gameplay or visuals.

Unless you consider Microtransactions and "lifetime" subscriptions the pinnacle of innovation.

Get in the beta and see for yourself. I can't tell you much since the NDA is still in effect.

In beta also. It does bring some things that are new and it has what you would expect from an mmo the point is it offers what coh does plus abit more and with a company that is has proven to bring good regular updates to game. People keep moaning about these Microtransactions.... they are simply extra character slots/costume packs etc which CoX has aswell.

The CoX devolopers  have forgotten their community, adding some face skins or adding a colour option to powers are not what should be considered an Issue update. AE Should be fixed or removed. At the moment they are just adding feactures you would of expected to be in the game a long time ago.

As i said, once the NDA has been lifted i will be more than happy to express my displeasure in detail.

And when you do I'll be sure to tear apart your "points".

CO is fine.

Fine, as in disappointingly mediocre? Yes, it is Mr. Internet Tough Guy. You make a good point.

Lol no one can win this fight due to the NDA so lets table it until its lifted and then we can all agree to disagree lol

I agree with Champions Online coming out next month and DC Universe Online coming out next year. City of Heroes has a lot to worry about. Plus if the Marvel MMO ever gets rolling again. That would be another game for City of Heroes to worry about, if it happens. CoH has had its time. Its like Star Wars Galaxies and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Does anyone really thing SWG will survive, when TOR comes out? I certainly don't think so. Same goes for CoH and the new next-gen superhero MMOs.

if i remeber right CO was supposed to marvel i could be wrong

I think so too. Cryptic and Microsoft were making it for Marvel. Then all of the sudden, Cryptic had there own game coming out. I always found that odd, how that played out. I personally think Cryptic scammed Marvel out of a game, but I could be wrong and readiing too much into it.

Marvel shut that project down, Cryptic sold of COH to ncsoft so they could devolope and publish Champions online on their own guess they got tired of larger companies screwing them over.

The AE is a huge problem on the european servers we have always had a smaller population than the US ones and this AE system has killed teams you now have two choices AE-Farm or Solo which is not why i play an MMO after 18 months of playing coh i have pre-ordered CO and will be moving on. Im not alone on this and that is where things will become interesting Ncsoft will do nothing to try and boost subscriptions or improve the  game they will run it how they have always done until they decide its not making enough money and shut it down, this is how they seem to run their games.

I sure hope not. The performance in that game is still horrid. Running a Quad CPU, 4GB DDR2, ATI 4870 1GB and CoV still runs like junk. It is the only game I cannot run on full blast. I can only assume revamping and updating the graphics would make it much worse.

Dang, sorry to hear that, but the problem is on your end.

I play COX with all settings maxed out  on a core2duo 3 GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 512MB GTS8800

Your rig's specs are better than mine, yet I can run COX at max with no problems and you cannot.

Definately a user issue, you should get with someone that is knowledgeable  in computers to give you a hand.

now on to the subject of the post:

I would love to see them revamp the graphics in COX, I still consider it my favorite game. The graphics as they stand now aren't too bad but modernizing the look might make the game feel "new" again.

I am a Software Engineer. I build servers, I code applications, and I have at one point worked in the gaming industry (albeit on an audio level). I know my way in and out of a computer, its components, its drivers, etc. While you may be running things on full blast, your idea of "smooth framerate" may vastly differ from mine. 20fps to me is unacceptable whereas it may not be noticeable to you. Opinions differ.

Again, as stated before, CoV is the only game that runs horribly for me. Hell, Vanguard runs pretty darn good on my machine. Even when CoV was released, it was a widely known issue that Mercy Isle = FPS death. Go to Sharkhead Isle and look directly at the steam rising up from the smokestacks. Instant teen-level FPS. However, log onto Vanguard and look over the port city of Khal, or LOTRO's Bree. They are handled beautifully by my machine. Load up CoV and go to the trainer atop Mercy Isle. Boom. 15FPS. And these areas are littered all over the Rogue Isles.

I have actually had 2 different PC's that have attempted CoV. When it first released, I had two 7800 GTX's in SLI (which was the latest and greatest at that time).  Fast forward a few years to the ATI 4870 and Quad Core CPU. SAME framerate. The jump in technology has not bettered the situation at all which means one thing: their code sucks. From what I remember, Cryptic used OpenGL for CoH/CoV, not DirectX which in there lies the problem.

Main Comp:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHZ

4GB RAM 1000MHZ

250 HD 32MB CACHE

Geforece GX280 1GB Card

Cox runs on max with Fps around 120

Second comp laptop:

Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.0GHz) Processor

512MB Nvidia GeForce G105M Graphics

2 GB RAM

120 GB HD

Cox runs around 80 fps solid

Im also a techie and build computers and in my experience alot of problems are cause by cheap components Buying a good processor and good graphics are putting them on a cheap motherboard with cheap value ram and a cheap large hard drive and then expecting a great performance never turns out well, i always recommend pay the extra for the better components. Im not saying COX has a great performace accross the board and it doesn't it has its flaws like all games some worse than others, but by the sounds of things your performance issue's may have another cause i would invest some time looking into your system's and maybe upgrading parts for better performance the hard drive is one most people overlook.

K so according to my subscription planetside is active.... guess its a few come bk month or something lol but yeah if i remember correctly planetside doesn't like vista and the never released a fix so i will not be downloading it.

I used to play planetside with friends when it first launch the playerbase back then was huge and the battles where just has huge but around the launch of core combat an exapansion pack you had to pay for which cost the same as the game and now they give away free lol, alot of players left around the corecombat launch and then the game kinda was left alone and there was 1 or 2 updates since then but nothing major. Like the article said SOE has left this game in the back of their minds and forgotton about it.

If the was to add new gameplay elements to the game or just add new classes and run some event drop the subscription price by half they might breath some life into the game.

You know i had been following this game for a while and got put off by the fact that Europe has been split and we in the UK have to deal with Acclaim.

After seeing that it had lauched i thought i would go and check out the prices.........what can i say Acclaim are taking the mickey for the subs:

30 days: 12.99 Euros which is about 13 pounds,  more expensive than any other P2P MMO i have seen for a while.

For the Acclaim coins: 1500 coins for 30 days which i think works out to about 7 euros.

Are they trying to kill the game, i dont know if others are like me but i wouldn't choose the coin option and i won't pay that for a sub fee when there are other games that are IMO better and cheaper.  I just feel sorry for the developers as the game was great till they made the launch decisions.

Sorry for the rant.

Its more than that because the 1500 coins for 30 days is only special intro price its normaly 1800 coins which at the moment they are doing a deal u can get 1880 coins for £10 but thats a deal meaning when it runs out u will have to get the next coin package up which is £15 but! if you want you can get a 30% discount it will just cost you £10 a month for the cheapest acclaim membership. so what ever way you look at it I'm sticking with the main stream mmo's i play so thats two mmo's im playing for the same cost of this mmo lol

Bob has been around a long time every major alliance has taken a shot at them, goons being the only ones to last, its a bad ending to a long story but seeing what comes out of the void left will be interesting I'm guessing the bob members stills around will just re-unite under a new banner.

Im in the United Kingdom (Europe) but can't play thanks to acclaim picking it up... Acclaim release is down to acclaim so moan at them. Personaly was looking forward to this game but will not play it as its Acclaim and well acclaim have a history of pushing games out with the goal to make money devolopement/customer experience is always at the bottom of their list.

Well the comment about it showing what people invest in the game is not exactly right as CCP do not get a peny of that money the greedy ISK sellers get it all, If he purchased it through the normal means GTC trading he would of been ok. How clear does CCP need to be they spam do not buy ISK from in game sellers all over the place lol they spam more than the ISK sellers do.

The older pc stuff is pretty much bullshit. Fps have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with lag.

Anyways..

People seem to forget that there is no such thing like "bad publicity".

Publicity is publicity is user numbers is pcu record. Yes it is that simple.

The game is fun for quite a few people, and relatively polished as long as you don't know a lot about its structure. Even Jita is relatively lagless currently. That's the reason eve had a new record.

The Dramafests are probably a direct cause of this pcu-record.

Lol FPS - Frames per second if your hardware cannot keep up with the game it apears client side as lag. Its the same thing with webcams if you have a camera with low FPS tracking when u move it apears in slow motion because the camera cannot keep up, same thing apply's here im afraid.
