Age of Conan: Anatomy of a Launch - Part One

AoC = Have people pay to Beta test a game... |

It only says US&EU. The Asia WoW has already 4 million, maybe more subcribers... And yeah the graphs shows players, so fail. |

The game needs time, the people need time, hopefully the company has time. I can't name you one single game out there that had issue's at launch. Vanguard you say is become better after having a simular launch. Good for them, and maybe for AoC too. Frankly it's too soon to tell. I'm also not sure to step in. Also need to get a better vidcard (from 7600GS to 8800GT). Times change, so does techology, and things will catch up eventually. |

Yeah after the free month you might see a clearer picture on who got the game from the start. I mean the leveling goes pretty fast and within those 30 days you have plenty of lvl 40+ chars by then. I wonder if its still appealing then and do we see a decline in subribers. As I wrote somewhere else. People might need to upgrade first to see if they can handle these new next-next-gen MMO's. (after, EQ2-LOTR-D&DO).
I'm in the waiting chamber, like I did with most games, and will wait 6 months to about a year before going in myself. |

EverQuest lasted for 5 years (99-'04), untill WoW came. There is still a playerbase who plays EQ. Wow is now 3 years old. Eventually it will slowly go down in subcribers. and servers will merge. People still have computers from 3-4 years old and keep on playing WoW.. Technology will see new MMO's like AoC and WAR. I guess by that time Blizzard has begun making a WoW 2, or other MMO (diablo/starcraft?). The MMO market is till growing, I believe there must be hundreds of million people (USA, EU, ASIA) playing some sort of MMO so enough of potential players to go around.. |

In what way will TCOS be instancing. The dungeons, shops, PvP zones? Kinda like the mini games AoC has? If they do it but also make it all seamless going from one place to the other I wouldnt mind much. Except from the zones you explore which should be not instanced of course. Dungeons, PvP games is most likely.

I wonder how the buddy keys will come in view with this after say 10-15 days. Will some buy the games as well and push the subscribers to about a million? Also I guess people are waiting for money to maybe upgrade their computers, which this game might be a nice opertunity for. It's top 10 player in the MMO market.. but hardly makes Blizz scared I think.

Do you remember the days of EQ1 when . . .
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 4/25/08 8:45:13 PM
Oh man all those stories. I do miss EQ1. It also was my first online MMO. Haven't found a truly replacement for it. I play WoW now as do many of us old everquesters.
Thanks for this wonderful thread.
I still remember creating my druid Greyleef and stepping out in Greater Faydark and those Wasps gave me goosebumbs. I still remember my first group in Crushbone and Dvinn wiped us. I still remember taking my first boat to EFP and got lost there. I still remember my first raid in Kael Drakkel. I remember camping those skeletons for ages and ages in The Umbral Plains for my Druid mail set.
I'll stop now.. |
