Yes it's basically Prototype or any beat em up you can think of in MMO form, but it's different and fun enough to make players mirgrate to the game at least for a few months - think for how much players will waste time just toying around with things in the game, for one theres a combo counter.... As I keep saying DC isn't an achevers game, it's a game to have fun with, yes a lot will probly get bored after a while but that doesn't mean they want be back from time to time just to break from the standard combat system (at least until Guild Wars 2 hits) |

I'm purly going for DC mainly because Rift it's far too much 'classic' MMOing, with the current track record of those MMOs you are goingb to get massive ques and lag for the first few months due to the fact the WoW lot have 'finshed the game' and once the next content update hits from WoW the servers will be pritty much barren again and you'll be waiting on the mergers to actally get any desent gaming done. DC is pritty much being panned by most of the 'masses' and the underdog in this, the worst that could happen is that it'll be put on the station pass in 6 months and a F2P option is added 18 months in if Vanguard and Pirates is any indercation, and they havn't gone anywhere DC may end up with a few tousand closely nit playerbase, but isn't that the same for CoX and EVE? |

Originally posted by Pandamin DC being sold short is deffitly true, it's nothing to do with the engine or the fact it crashes - they all do, it's simply the goto excuse of people not wanting to play it because: It's not/like WoW. Bottom line is a large portion of the playerbases these days don't want to 'play for fun' they want to 'play to win', between CoD Starcraft and WoW it's clear most what the glory of 'world firsts' and top ranks, gaming is no longer a means to have fun for them, it's a sport, they want to think they've acheved something that people will go 'OMG I SO WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND' about. DC is none of the above hence why 'it will fail' according to that crowd - which sadly now greatly outnumbers the people who 'have fun' with games and now controls how/where the market has been heading these past years. I want DC to do well just to prove that games don't have to be a massive compeative battle to be sucessful, I'm just hoping DC don't do a Lucus Arts/Games Workshop/Tolken Inc and force a gamebreaking change just becuase it's not pulling massive numbers quickly |

So no one actally thought it was just to stress test the engine in one location so they had data ready to tweek it so on release IF there is huge floods of players in the starting zone it wouldn't instacrash on them as it was doing? sorry but if your going to bash a game over a beta event - need I remind you of a certain live WoW event that was that poorly thought out guilds held servers hostage over unlocking the content, and that was even if you actally managed to get online at the time, yes how easy it is to forget AQ probly because most of the userbase in this site basically only just became actal MMO players a few years ago and basically only know half truths and rumours, most of the actal MMO playerbase probly wouldn't just this jaded trollfest with a ten foot pole now. |

DC Universe Online: The End is the Beginning
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/06/11 3:15:53 PM
Well cosidering everyone is hyping about Rift and how thats the 'next big thing' I very much dought we'll really see any postive comments from the userbase of this site in general, considering the game is very very much for the RPer the 'end to endgame and gain top teir epix' crowd will not enjoy this game at all - guys if you are looking to do 'new content' the month this is out, please do SOE a favour and do not buy this game otheriwse you'll be just clogging up the servers and forums with your complaining. This game is for RPing mostly and having fun, esport raid fans please just leave us alone |

Interested in this game...but how shallow is it?
General Discussion « DC Universe 1/03/11 4:24:24 PM
I think many many people have forgotten that CoX was just as 'shallow' in content as DC will/might be way way back in the early days, same with CO. HOWEVER the core of each game isn't the level cap, nor the amount of raids/epics to get and do, the core gameplay of the superhero MMO has been and quite possibly will be the RP - loads of CoX players really couldn't give two hoots back when I was playing if there was new content each month, they just logged in chatted and RPed with friends and logged out again. All this 'need' for content/gear to 'progress' with to be a 'sucessful MMO' for players these days only stems from WoW's now nearly esport raiding style, MMORPGs where never about winning they were about socialising, and as log as Sony improve on the socal aspects of DC, it's as good as CoX when it comes to a RP stomping grounds, as long as there is RPers in the game this game will continue (unless Sony was expecting to hit WoW numbers with it as they did Pirates and Vanguard) |

World of Warcraft: The End of Azeroth…or the Beginning?
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/24/10 3:17:18 AM
Anyone stating the actally Cata box 'unlocks' are skipy: Go eat humble pie. those 7 bullet points on MMO-C are misleading, Blizz have already said and it's been proven those 5 levels aren't '5 levels' they ARE 10-15 in scale, those 'few' zones are HUGE (go on to Youtube and find some flyovers of them), plus theres more endgame content released on day 1 then there was at least with Wrath. Added to that Guild Leveling is a HUGE timesink you WILL be wanting to do, rated BGs are actally removing the lame playerbase that ragequit at the first capure while they stand around 'farming' AT LAST, plus as proven by many a player even the 'only one character i need to raid' playerbase has been converted to actally play alts as the damn game is actally 'fun' to level in again. Yea most of the 'bulk' is in the 1-60 of the dev work, however Blizzard said back in Blizzcon 09 that this had be planned well before Wrath was even started, 'Cata' itself has been building for a long time now it may feel like Blizzard rushed it out (RIP Path of the titans), but theres one thing that Blizzard did right - Corrected a LOT of missteps made in Wrath and brought it back to a more competitive, yet fun, game to be in. |

The thing is most of the time they blame the end-user (ie us) for allowing our accounts to be hacked, but as someone pointed out it could have easily been from their end as well, the GMs may have limited control over our accounts, but the people on the phone, techies, coders, etc have near on full access to them, all it takes is one disguntered employee to copy the data, leave the company and it's payday for them, or even a laptop left on a train/stolen from home/work, Blizzard would never admit it's their end, nor would any company with personal data being handled, these things only get found out from outside sources (ie the press). In Blizzard's case it's worrying because if it was something simple like the addons, we would know about it stright away, either the community or Blizzard would have accounced it clearly and promtely, it's just the volume of accounts been hacked since the new battlenet was put in place and with people with just SC2 reported being hacked a while back, user data has to have been leaked/stolen from somewhere, may not be from Blizzard persay could have been a 3rd party and/or site, but this is looking less and less likely to be 'user error'. TBH it would be far better if sites/games quit using our email as a login - it's far too easy to crack |

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: Skaven Update
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/13/10 3:44:25 PM
I've given up in hoping any thrid party can actally take an exisisting IP and stay as loyal as they can with it - thats not just with games or MMOs, I hate to say this but the only people that can get away with it is Blizzard as it's their lore to begin with (although 'borrowed' from Warhammer and other pop culture), they have to make it their version which in the case of WAR or many many film versions of games have strayed so far off the point in the first place it's nothing like what it's ment to be. As someone said Lizardmen would have made the most logical choice, even Mythic thought so at one point, even adding the 3rd faction of counts and kings was widely disscussed between the fanbase, Aall this Skaven update does is further prove that WAR is a 2nd thought now next to the other projects in Bioware and it's just going through the motions atm to try and make it seem that it will get updated from time to time - TBH I don't blame them, Mythic (ie Mark Jacobs) screwed the pooch the moment they started cutting content and reversing all the good PR annoucements Paul did, if half the stuff that was actally accounced made it thru (dogs of war, all the cities, etc, even the orginal sandbox version) then the game wouldn't have bombed as much as it did, it's a badly designed pvp MMO with a Warhammer theme. I think the most upsetting thing is that Vigil are sticking to the two faction in 40K:DM even tho it's the most complained 'feature' about WAR AND Relic/THQ are involved and they proved they know the lore properly with DoW.... Vigil/THQ/Relic for heven's sake use WAR as an example of NOT to do a Warhammer MMO, the market doesn't need another EQ/WoW carbon copy, we need another EVE/DAoC. |

The only real way around getting gold farmer slammed on all your accounts is to create a new 'you' from scratch each time you sign up to a mayor MMO, it's just a damn same like Blizzard, NCSoft 'link' your games to one account. |

Lord of the Rings Online: F2P Finally Arrives
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/11/10 6:24:17 AM
It just tickles me that the 'SAY NO TO F2P' lot are basing it seems all their 'information' with LOTRO on the F2P market as a whole - LOTRO is vastly a different system to all the easten 'gimped at high end if you don't pay more then the normal monthly sub' system. THIS is the game you should be supporting if you don't like the current 'popular' F2P model (and Guild Wars TBH buy-to-play is also just as good), by supporting LOTRO (and DDO) 'on mass' you'll incur the 'WoW effect' again, implanting in all devs minds that if they want money out of their Free to play games then Turbine's hybrid model with the '100% playable high end without paying' free side is the way to go. Turbine's price models are the fairest I've seen so far, so just put down your pitchforks and torches and look at their system compared to the market atm, it's a good evoloution to what we have atm, by not supporting LORTO/DDO the fleecing will still continue with the current models as just by 'not playing' you are not really stating 'how' you would prefer your F2P models to be - Turbine is currently the ideal version, it's that simple |

Is this how WOW treats hacked customers?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 9/09/10 5:33:05 PM
Originally posted by bansan QFT, it's a automatic responce, and it's normal for any MMO to do that not just Blizzard, plus having been hacked myself try ringing them up directly you get a faster and much more personal responce next time, shame they've had 'pracise' in refining that part of the system, now if they could just sercure up the system (as many have proven it's not just 'bad login saftey' users that got their accounts stolen) things would be peachy overall |

General: Starcraft II: 800,000 PreOrders in North America
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/27/10 5:30:43 AM
I'd like to point out to the people slamming SC2 for being 'the same game but pritter' that C&C hasbeen doing the same stunt for ages now between that and RA nothing really changed in any of their games besides a handfull of new units and the odd new co-op modes here and there and even they have been the same price (in the UK at least) as SC2 is, the only REAL changes came with C&C4 and thats been marked as the unfavoured C&C title of all time.. Excluding expantions this is really only Blizzard's 5th RTS in it's whole run, to be blunt many people are only slamming it purly 'because it's Blizzard', and they got burnt by WoW, outside of WoW itself Blizzard have made some great games, I'm hoping with SC2 and Diablo 3, between a huge gap with just WoW as the focus and all the staff changes, the games I loved in the past still are just as good in the present. |

Well they were using the 'it's to combat trolling' excuse mainly that didn't sit well with me when they had a perfectly good system in place already with SCII's forums, which thankfully they are now choosing to use, plus the fact you were forced to 'opt in' if you needed any techical support. I'm still thinking that the change from SCII current system to RealID wasn't Blizzard's intention but Activision's, seeing the outcry on the forums and across the net, Blizzard had reason to fire the idea back at Activision and standing their ground with reasons why it'll cripple Battle.net and the RealID system - Ever since Blizzard wanted to put more focus on the other 3 projects things have been 'wrong' with 'Blizzard's' thinking, like I said I smell Activision 'helping' and it's about time Blizzard remembered that they aren't Blizzard's 'boss' but partner and keep that greedy gobsh*te out of their products |

Dispite your 'comment' you'll find a large number of people would prefer this type of combat over the near-fps speeds we've drifted to over the past 5-6 years |

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: Games Workshop Files Suit over Warhammer Alliance
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/08/10 1:20:08 PM
The funny thing is people are treating GW like they are as bad as Activision, which in AV's case it's all about the money, whereas with GW it's ALL about the IP. One misconseption thats common when it comes to Games Workshop is that they like other companies are sitting on a pile of money, it's kinda true in a way but far far from the Mircosoft/Activision/Sony amounts - funny thing is about 2/3 years ago GW was close to going under, so going about saying 'they are the mircosoft/activision of TT gaming', at times we wish it was then they would have made the games themselfs as they would have had the money to throw away at those risks, but again all it's stating is that it's just money grabing which is the core of the misconseption as it's not about money, it's about protecting the IP - thats all they have really, if that got comprimised then the whole busness would go under. The WA thing is because as people have stated GW are highly protective of the IP with the Blizzard 'ripoff' cases iirc GW tired to get them in court at least 5 times over it but Blizzard had canged it just enough to riggle out of it - WA/Curse are basically not 'playing by the rules' when it comes to GW's 'fansites' they are ment to be NON-PROFIT, and Curse is heavily pushing not only the Curse client but all the premiums the site has to offer plus trying to push themselfs into 'the offical site' status - GW don't just got to court on a wimm like that they've proply attempted to at least talk with the owners since the site appreared lots of times and it's been out a LONG time now so this is the last option to get Curse to 'complay' with GW's rules regrauding 'fansites'. I'll be the first to agree with most people that WA did help EA and Mythic with WAR - however the last thing you should do is fk with the IP owner say 'Game$ Wor$hop the money grabbers' as much as you want but it's no different if someone made a 'fansite' of any other IP then asked you for money for 'premiums' for it |

Theres no such thing as a 'WoW Clone' at all - it's just the 'uninformed' not realising that 'WoW' itself is just the standard model for ALL level based MMOs past, present and future.. It's about as bad as someone going 'It's a Halo clone' at Battlefield or 'It's a Fanal Fantasy clone' at Dragon Age although that never happens but it's the people comming into the MMO market now thinking WoW was somthing completely new and never been done before, to many gamers 'MMORPGs' didn't exsist at all until WoW broke into the console market's playerbase, so to them WoW is the 'first' MMO and to make matters worse due to it's success people continue to beleave all MMOs are trying to copy WoW down to the letter hence the term 'WoW clone'. On a side note it's also the same with the 'I'm sick of fetch/kill quests' crowd, what else can you do in questing that doesn't invole killing and/or feching? Bottom line is as I said at the start people use that term purly as they don't understand the fact that the 'WoW' design of gameplay is and always has been the standard model for MMOs even before WoW, Blizzard just tweeked a few ideas for other titles - it's just basically lack of background knowlege of the genre |
