Originally posted by kuhronusu 1) Game is a fun, persistent FPS that takes some skill to compete in 2) The game is fairly polished, in my time playing, I've not run into any bugs or lag bad enough to affect game performance 3) Most importantly (to me), is that the developer identified that the game did not have enough content to justify a subscription, was honest enough to admit it, and continued updating the game to justify the game price. At such point as made sense, they would then start charging a sub price. Then, showing a bit of wisdom and common sense, which is all-too-rare these days, they have decided to throw out the subscription model, and go with an expansion model, like Guild Wars. 4) Items 1-3 above inspire a sense of trust and respect in me for the developer, which makes me want to support their business
My two cents; it's cheap enough to try out, and develop your own opinion. |

I was excited until I saw the "open world" bits would be sub-only. Unless you are in a large Agency Alliance, AvA stinks. I have no reason to sub, because I have no intention of playing AvA. However, my guess is that this "open world" enhancement will remove many many players from the PvE queues, which can already be pretty empty. That means, to do more than a statndard PvP 10v10, you would HAVE to sub. The game, for what it provides, is not worth the sub price in my opinion. Hopefully they will see the light and offer these items as a mini-expansion, for $5 or $10, so that those of us that don't participate in AvA have a reason to continue playing the game. |

Scum-rating wise, marketers are just lawyers with a higher level of creativity. Nothing you see in an advertisement of a news article is 100% accurate. These are businesses, and their bread-and-butter is to "spin" the truth into something positive for their position (or product). That being said, if you believe 100% of what you're told, you're a sucker. Don't be a sucker. There are already enough of them. |

I see what you are saying. I can imagine that would be extremely frustrating, on time of showing complete disrespect to your fanbase. This is one of the reasons I TRY not to follow games in development. More times than not, I end up disappointed with the product and the developer. I rather just ignore them until a few months after launch, pick them up, play them, and decide for myself. Note...this is not optimal, as I have wasted countless dollars on crappy games that weren't even worth the $49.99 box price. |

I am as well. I couldn't enjoy CoX for more than a couple weeks at a time before it became boring for me. With a trial, I won't know that, because they usually don't give you enough of a window of opportunity to find that out. That being said, a fair number of games lately have bored me within the first week. So I may find out sooner than I would normally expect. If it's engaging for the trial period, I would consider buying it. After I try it, I'll PM both you and Adogg, and let you know what my impressions are. |

You stick to your guns in a positive way; I can respect that. While magicly chatting privately with a guild does seem less real than having to say everything in the open, I am getting older. I don't know that my reflexes are good enough to be able to pick out text in a chat window that I care about. With 100 people standing about talking, I imaging there will be a constantly scrolling wall of text, with something you would be interested in scrolling away before you even had a chance to notice it. I'm being picky about chat, mainly, because that is why I pay to subscribe to an MMO versus playing a single-player game. I like to interact with others, and chatting is a major part of that. Maybe, on trial, I would find it not so bad. But on paper...It's just not for me. I hope you can remain positive, and enjoy your game. |

It sounds like you have pointed out some good and some not-so-good, but it seems, to me, that you try to put a positive spin on the not-so-good. It sounds more like shilling, and less like honest reporting. In particular, I find the two quotes above disturbing. No guild or EVEN GROUP CHAT at this time? Huh? They are having lag problems and they don't even have these basic functions operating in the background? That is not promising. The first statement completely contradicts the second. They want to encourage co-operation and interaction...but give you no method to chat with those you are cooperating with? Huh? You say "Fun?". I say "No!". |

I don't understand all the venom towards Cryptic and CO. I look at the MMORPG Site Rating and User Rating for this game, and they are pretty high. I read the comments here, and on the CO site, and they are full of venomous and disillusioned players. Why are these two things so far apart? Are the comments posted from a very small minority of players, or are the ratings bought and paid for? Not flaming or calling anyone out really, I just want to know the lay of the land before considering purchasing and playing another Cryptic game (played CoX for a while). |

I have to say, this write-up got more and more entertaining as it approached the end. I thought it was funny how the profanity increased until the end. My favorite line " See the fucker sneaking past it? what an ass" ...I laughed until I cried. Very entertaining post. |

Your problem, Bax, is that you misunderstand the game. The game is NOT about PvE...at all. They spent the minimal time necessary to put out the meager number of missions that they have, and, if you call them out on it, I think they would admit that to you. They are not ashamed, and would tell you that this game is about PvP, not PvE. They put a little PvE in there as a way for new players to get started, and for players to earn ISK in order to buy and lose ships and mods in PvP. If you are playing this game for PvE, you are not going to enjoy this game; you will ALWAYS have complaints about it. PvE in EVE is shallow, and is only there for a specific reason, and that reason is NOT enjoyment of PvE. |

Often times, online games are deployed to server farms to run on when released to market (going live). They usually have more bandwidth, and newer/faster servers to run on at that time. The costs can be high though, so some companies will house betas on their own gear so as not to go bankrupt before going gold and release to market, where they start getting higher income flows. If it's unplayably laggy; I would be very concerned, as it is more likely due to bad netcode. In all fairness, it also has to be pointed out that in beta, the developers will be running monitors and logging activity much much more heavily in order to spot bugs. This puts a great strain on the server, and can result in a good deal of lag. If it's a bit laggy, that's to be expected and should, in large part, be corrected at release. At release, I would expect the game to have similar lag issues as CO has, since the base is same/similar. If CO is ok for the most part, I'm sure STO will perform that way also. |
