Not to sound like a "know it all" but I do financial analysis for a living on Wall Street.
1) I find it very disturbing that Funcom will not release subscriber data going forward. That's usually a very, very bad sign. If things were going well, they'd brag about it. If things were going poorly (which I suspect), they'll say they just wont disclose it.
2) As an analyst forecasting financials, and the #1 revenue stream for the company is the number of subscribers to AoC, how can you not report it? Just silly, and tells me things are really bad.
3) Having played the game myself to lvl 80 with one of the top PvP guilds, and participated in several seige fights, I cancelled because it was just to laggy/buggy/boring.
4) What will be interesting will be the Q4 revenue number. If you were like me and purchased a 3-month subscription, that subscription will hold them through Q3 revenue, along with some additional copies of the game sold. By Q4, all the new game purchases are likely to end and most of the cancelled accounts will be gone, meaning revenues will likely decline dramatically in Q4 (usually reported in February 2009).
I have to say that initially I was a Fanboi of AoC, I enjoyed the game from 1-50, then 51-80 was a big grind but I did it. I really became frustrated when seige fighting was broken. Finally, I went on a PvE raid and just found it frustrating as well. I now really dispise the game and have deleted it from my computer. It still amazes me that they sold the game as massive PvP and never tested it in Beta with live players, instead only using NPC simulations. Just dumb.
I will say that I give AoC an A+ for hype and marketing, they got me and many others thinking this would be the next great game. So dissapointed. I'm now moving on to Warhammer.
evade and invunerability nerfs today and rhino and mammoth nerfs as well

If the require you to be lvl 80 and in the seige zones to ride the mounts, perhaps this is how Funcom thinks it is providing end-game content. Yes, everyone will want to ride their mount in the seige zone, so that should get folks there and start seiging!!!!
Laugh. I am so glad I cancelled this POS game.
