" UO does not have more than 2-3 developers anymore anyway and their gms handle all games, so their costs for the game are pretty small. "
Agree with everything except the above , I can tell you with great confidence , UO has way more than that working on the game as a WHOLE.." I will also predict if Stygian doesnt grab new players ,UO will not last to much longer , UNLESS EA/ Mythic decides to dump DOAC ( Because WAR is closer to DOAC than UO is , in term of game styles) EA lost its chance to make UO great or even as big as WOW ( well maybe not ). |

If you want a classic return ,let the dev's know and tell them what would make you return.

December Developer Letter Calvin Crowner UO Development Manager 12 Dec 2008 18:09:16 EST
For the record what I am about to write is “so not my gig”, but I’ll endeavor to push through it. I wanted to pass on that with the recent announcement of earning from Electronic Arts that the Ultima Online team is still intact and still pressing forward on both the Stygian Abyss Expansion, and supporting the Live Game. In addition, we are still moving forward with the Event Moderator Program. I know it’s been a long time coming, but as you may have read we’re going through more than a bit from our side these days. For us, the team is actually having a great time coming up with diabolical ways to engage you for the foreseeable millennium, or until 2012 when the Mayan calendar says everything will end – whichever comes first. We’re preparing both the New UO client and the first completely playable level to internal testers next week. We are also planning how we want to run beta internally and externally, and as soon as we have a complete answer on it all, we’ll inform you as well. About Event Moderators: there has been a lot of speculation on how we chose who we chose, why some were selected and others were passed over. I can tell you this: we read for content before we read names. There was no favoritism in any part of the team, and I can say there was a bit of common sense in selecting who went to which shards. We also selected a mixed team of experienced members, and not-so experienced members. We eliminated anyone who had legitimate marks on their accounts, or anyone who had “great intentions” but no event experience at all. In short we picked an initial team that would best serve the community, and whose applications seemed to have the community’s best interest in mind. We will continue to grow, adjust, and evolve the EM program as we go. We have kept everyone’s applications on file, and have a backup list of Event Moderator contributors. Some EMs may not be able to fulfill their duties so we will be selecting from the initial batch for anyone who is not able to commit as they planned. Life happens. Finally, we’ve been tracking the latency issues since their inception. We tested the impact of the Invasion and other associated events in game and found none of the additional content impacted lag. We’re constantly following up with trace routes that some players have contributed and our World Wide IT team is in contact with the external carrier we think may be the key to the problem. The more data we have the better, so have your friends create an account and send us all the information you have. Wink. I sincerely hope this answers a few questions or concerns. Now, I have to go help Leurocian figure out how Baby Bach really can be used as an educational tool, and why puppets should be a new system in UO.

Should we all just go back to Ultima Online?
Britannia Tavern (General) « Ultima Online 11/17/08 2:10:59 PM
I quit UO for WAR , I'm enjoying the break from UO , there are a few things coming up that make me want to try it again soon.
1. Event Moderator Program coming back with players taking on that role http://www.uoherald.com/application/ Application deadline is November 17th, 2008.
2. Stygian Abyss http://www.uoherald.com/stygianabyss/
3. The game has lasted 11 years..
UO just needs a few thousand friends to return , with fresh ideas and more support for the large community. |

"It's a shame for the MMO industry that Lord British had to give up UO... I'm sure he could have taken it in an entirely WoW direction (as far as numbers go)" Not only he , but EA totally blew it..... |

Besides even if UO was at , hmm , 75,000 active PAYING accounts the would = close to $900,000 a month and a little ove $10 million a year , i'm no EA finacial rep but one would think that is pretty profitable.. I think you should move on.... |

If you dont play and would like something added or fixed to make you comeback post it here: |

If you are a new player or trying to get back into the game besides these boards you can check out: Stratics , alot of the players there are more than willing to help , if you cant find answeres here..

Makes you wonder if thats all UO is now a profitable training ground for future devs of EA , think about our dev cycles over the years , almost like a college degree path.. |
|
|
Proof??? We got at least a year left...With around 50,000-60,000 accounts x $10 or so a month = about $600,000 a month plus very popular micro transactions , I would think that would be pretty profitable for EA.... Looking over a few pages of info and some of the publishes and storylines going on they SEEM to be gearing up for some big stuff , they are currently doing a massive clean up Britt ( For old school players) , could UO be going less item based... But hey it's EA you never know...

Why Electronic Arts' Ultima Online Sucks?
Britannia Tavern (General) « Ultima Online 6/20/08 6:53:07 AM
I'm still waiting to see if Mythic will have any change on UO or are they holding on to it till WAR is released? , If Mythic gives UO the time of day and adecent budget I think they could make UO alot more interesting and maybe a nice little shot at a comeback. |

Hey its an old thread , but its worth a shot f you send info into feedback here:
|
|
|
Update your review section to reflect UOKR ( when did this site give a full on review last?), maybe even remove some of the older out of date info , UO still has a playerbase and a place in the MMO world.. PS: Try and get some interviews or dev posts... |
