SOON (tm)

People who like = play

People who do not = troll.

I jumped in here ready to flame but, you do not appear to be an obvious troll so....

The problem is the reports I am hearing are of the bad sort.  Insta-travel, duping etc,

Oh, and "not Bad Hacking" is called a mod.  There is a difference in the community when talking about these subjects.  If it is a bad mod it is called a Hak!

Yes, quite sure. It was inevitable that the die-hards jump on the bandwagon straight away to defend THEIR game, the point is, if it was still that great you wouldn't have replied within moments to be honest. SO many server merges already speaks for itself if you wanted another piece of evidence.

But anyway, I envisaged great things from Mythic after the wonderful DAoC. But to be fair, I knew the ship would begin to list the minute it was hit by the EA torpedo.  It is only a matter of time now.

OK, I am not a diehard.  This is my only post on this.  I have not seen the population drop from my PoV.  Of course I play order on a highly populated Destro server so, cannot speak for the other side.

Mayhap the Destro peeps are bored?  Mayhap you should try anothr server?  While I admit I do not know if what you are saying is wrong, just do not see it.

While I am looking forward and hoping this game will live up to expectations.  You would think most people would be over MMo hype by now.

Seriously, it is absolutely amazing how fast something goes viral nowadays and people still get all caught up in the hype.

Remember IT?

Well, something to do for free for the next couple of weeks.  Not like there is anything out there worth PAYING for right now.

I dunno Gardavil.  Next year has some pretty interesting MMO's coming out like KOTOR, STO, SGW, and JGE.  I think JGE has btoh PvP and PvE elements as well as open sandbox/linear quests.

Still, what one player rants about as being a total waste of time / time sink another player trully loves.  If the OP is open to ideas and not just throwing out his idea of how BAD something is going to be without trying it.  He may find the game has some potential.

As Gardavil suggested.  It is hard to have a game designed around PvP that limits the player to specific choises.  Look at some of the games out there now.  WoW, WAR.  Both limit you to what you can/cannot have as a skillset in the game.  DF does not do this.

It balances the skills with each other and not based upon what the CLASS has to offer.  Yes, you can have a spell caster wearing plate armor.  He will be limited and slowed by this fact.  However, it is supplimented with other skills it could negate the limitations.  Makes the min/max cookie cutters hard to come by.  Not impossible, just harder to flesh out.

It also gives EVERY Player the potential to be different/unique/better than any other player.  Maybe you do not do well with the magic/melee class.  I may and be better at it than you.  You might also hit better with your weapon since you are pure melee.  = balance.

AS far as the OP posting about being GANKED after hours of some time-sink.  Well, all I can say is this so called TIME-SINK is in every game.   How many times as a n00b have you been in an area that was devoid of mobs and then a respawn happened and you were just wiped.  You try to come back into the area and the place is sick with mobs or it is camped by a named/epic mob.  No way to get your stuff back.  Can you say PvE gank???  What were the devs trying to get across there?  that you are not safe even against PvE??

I am teh suk and PvP.  I am not a PK and think that players who harrass others by stealing/ganking/PK/ whatever you want to call it are crap.  However, they make a boring world interesting and make other players in game react to each other differently.

EXAMPLE:  If you are not a PK you are not likly to run up to another player with a weapon showing.  You will more than likely introduce yourself from a distance that would allow you to run from them should they turn out to be a PK.  And, you may even put your weapon into a less threatening position to prove your intentions are anything but hostile.

So, do not harsh on a game that is different from the cookie cutter clones out there.  I like to call the last 5 years of MMO developement the "Clone Wars" as damn near every game has cloned the WoW / EQ mold.

This game definately has my attention at this time.  I have opted to pay for 2 months premium ($14.00 US).

It is a tough game to play solo.  It is even a tough one to play casually.  I have a couple of friends and we are currently terraforming a plateau that one of them was able to wall off.  We have the whole top of a hill and it is almost completely changed from its original look.  There have been 5 houses built up there along with a farm.  We are working on finishing touches to the place and I am working on farming and cooking.

It is tough and it is not fast...  It is surely a great change of pace and interesting in its openness.  You have more freedom than in ANY other game I have played.  Yes, there are some players who have been around forever and have lots of skills and stuff.  I found a good numbr of them extremely helpfuill and ready to offer ideas on getting started.  Of course this is not on the wild server.

People come and go in this game all the time.  With  the free to play times there are lots of places where people start things and leave. So it is kinda fun to find all of the abandoned things lying around.

If I were trying to introduce you to a Blind Date I would describe it as .... The game has lots of character and a great personality.

Hey all of you PC gurus out there.

I put this system together last year

Thermaltake W0106RU 700W

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 65W

Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

ASUS Striker II Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI DDR3 ATX Intel Motherboard

BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS

I was looking to make some tweaks to this and was wondering where I could get the best bang for the buck.  Preferably in the $100-$200 range.

I was a part of JGC from 1997 when they first started to let people into beta.

The problem with the forumns  there is the same problem with most any forumns in any game.  They are dominated by the vocal minority of complainers.

Now, first thing you need to understand about the JG community and JGC is the Boards were THE PLACE FOR IN-GAME CONTENT.  The game was loosley designed around player dereived and initiated conflict.  Not much for NPC or MOB to attack other than some absent minded AI bots.

Players took to the forumns and started shouting matches and story lines and political intrigue there.  This carried over into the game as vendetta's and backstabbing and allout wars between some player squads.

Some revel in this type of player drivin content.  The main issue was unless you had time to troll the boards and keep up with what was being posted, you really had no clue what to expect in game.  Pilots you thought were friendly one moment were KOS another.  Pilots you thought were KOS would end up being "friendly" and causing issues when you attacked on sight.

While quite intriguiging and fun to play it became tiresome for me and I found all of the drama was just not worth it in a game.  I did not want to come home from a stressfull day and become more stressed by going through the FLAME WARS as I called them.

That is why the community is so particularly obsessed with the boards and the old ways of JG.  I think there might be some let down for them when the game is released.  Either that or you just will NOT leave the protected areas unless you want to be involved with the drama that goes on.

I am hoping for what they are promising.  JGC with a better economy and less reliablitiy on Player driven conflict.

JGC was fun but, it got tedious at times with all of the player driven drama.  At times you just could not tell WTF was going on.

I enjoy Vanguard.  SOE is making great strides in cleaning up Brad's mess.  By GU5 this game should be where it was supposed to be at  launch.

It is not much different than most MMO's there are good points and bad points.  Some of the questing is fun and entertaining some of it is just get the damn thing so you can get the rewards type.  The biggest problem I see is there is a LOT of  content at the lower levels that is skipped due to few players being around for grouping.  While there is plenty to solo and lots of quests to do without grouping, you still miss this content and some backstory of what is going on in the world.  This tends to water down the whole experience into more of a level grind.

The good thing is, if you are interested you can generally go back to those areas at a much higher level and go through the quest lines to read the backstory.  While you will not gain xp you will at least see and read some interesting tidbits into what is going on in the world.  Diplomacy too brings in some of this backstory as well.  Although it and crafting just make my eyes bleed!

I have played just about all of the classes out there.  If you want to group alot I found the BARD to be the most group friendly and easiest class for Pick up Groups.  With a good Disciple or Cleric I have even tanked with my Bard up to level 24 currently.  Not the desired method but, the crowd control and pulling oiptions you get tends to lessen the multi-mob attacks and allow you to focus on one mob at a time.

If you want the solo aspect then I would suggest the Disciple or Cleric.  Good melee (although you will take time to chip through the mob) and the self heals is prettly kewl.  If you are solo alot I would suggest the Disciple mainly for the unique and interesting fighting style.  They are more fun than the cleric for solo, the clerics strenght is geared more towards groups with the buffs and melee.  Both classess are generally sought after for groups.

The Blood Mage used to be a good solo class(dunno if they still are) they have heals and casting speells.  Extremly squishy (cuz they are casters at heart).  One good thing is their heals depends on spell damage.  So you putr all of your resources (equipment and attrr) towards spell damage and you do better at healing.

The hardest classes to play (IMO) are the tank classes.  You need to have really good gear and to be fairly effective in groups you have to focus resources on holding aggro.  This tends to gimp you for soloing much.  I have not tried any since the latest revamp.  I just know tanking is harder in Vangurad for me  than any other MMO I have played.

Rangers, Necros, Mages, and Rogues make decent soloers but, they are squishy and if you miss more than once or twice on an attack it generally ends with you running for your life.  With the exception of the Necro all are sought after for their DPS.

Right now Vanguard seems to have most of the PC Population around some few areas that have multi tiered quests for decent sets of equipment.  While this is both good and bad it does tend to focus players on where to find groups easily.  The bqd part is there is a lot of content for the lower levels that is generally bypassed because of the "phat l00ts" being located in these areas.

I will most likely give it a new try then as well.

A lot should have been done to this game prior to launch.  Sigil left Micro Soft because MS was tired of paying for no product.  Still, SOE has made some progress on cleaning the mess and the game is coming along quite nicely.

Truly though.  The difference between liking this game and hating it is in the rig.  If you are not pushin some serious horsepower under the hood you will absolutely HATE this game.  A very beefy system gets to enjoy the game a lot.

Once they get the server consolidation going this will games population will start to grow again.

WOW is just the latest iteration of where the current version of MMO's were going.  From UO to EQ the next flip would be a more streamlined version of the 2 games.  What WOW does good is bring the masses to the MMO world.

Unfortunately in doing so it dumb's down the game into a spponfed romp through the virtual countryside.

While this is appealing to the masses it runs rather boring to most veterans of the MMO worlds.

The biggest complaint about making things harder and having to solve puzzles and such is the spoiler sites that inevitably pop up once a game is in production.  While there are those who complain about this and make it seem that this is a bad thing.  It is still something that you have to go out and search for and do research on.  IMO spoiler sites are just an optional thing to the game.

I feel that the whole make it easier and they will come will only go so far.  Once the initial oo and aaaa is overwith you are left with a watered down game that has no personality and a community that only does spot groups to keep from having to fight over camps.

At least with the spoiler sites you have the option of not using them and playing a game that is more challenging.  As opposed to a game that is just on rails.
