Fithly, if vets want to come back they will do so, my point is that to post everywhere asking them to return and convincing them that the game is good is just misleading, mainly because they come back expecting PRE CU, and you can't deny it most of them do.

What I expect is that SOE/LA should recognize the facts of 2 solid years of loss, to recognize and act on the proposition that Classic Servers is the only thing that is likely to get them subscription numbers even remotely resembling what they had before. Otherwise, the current situation will most likely persist until SWG is sunsetted: dismally low population, new subs in rough balance with cancellations, a push toward server merges even knowing that it would cost nearly as many subs cancelled as it retained.
SWG has more subs then Vanguard.

... which doesn't say much.
Exactly the point though, if there adding Vanguard to there stable of games and its a fairly new title and has such abysmal subs right now. You think SOE is going to take SWG off its list ?

I'll be the first to point out however that I'm no longer an SOE player.  I played EQ2 for years, and had a Station Pass so I could dabble with SWG and PlanetSide, but in the end just couldn't justify the cost... plus I moved over to LOTRO...

The price for the all inclusive rate would have remained 29.99 with or without SWG. The price went up just like it has always gone up ever since they implemented it.

Do you honestly believe that if the far remote possibility that SWG got removed from the all inclusive plan that SOE would even consider lowering the price ?

Come off it its time to step back into reality.

Please dump it!  Bring my fees back down.    EQ rocks and population is booming even faster after the release of the Anniversary edition last month.  EQII continues to get better and better and the two new expansions will certainly rock.   Vanguard should hold its own with some guiding care and Matrix Online just needs an expansion to boost it to a playable status.

SWG has had all the chances it deserves.  Let it die -- or at least quit making me pay for it!  All-access subscription are not to become  a welfare system I hope.

WRONG FORUM

Please direct all whines about wanting the game to just die to the vet forums. SWG has more subs then Vanguard.

I am super anxious to get this to live, playing on test is way too much of a chore right now so i am really not interested in it.

So i am hoping it gets released soon, plus the fact that it will bring back even more vets who left not because of the NGE game mechanics but because BE and CH were removed from the game.

Try and figure things out for yourself before you post, alot of vets are posting every little thing they notice, and what makes it worse is that they do not make use of the new itmes / UI before they post, if they did they would see that it is actually really nice the way it is and that there are advantages for all the disadvantages.

Hmmm, you do realize that any player this game picks up or gets re-subbed is a plus.

Your comment makes you seem like an arrogant pompous a**. (seem not stating you are one but this really makes you come across as one)

Just as it is simple enough for returning vets to use a search function, it is clearly just as simple for you to not read a post or ignore one asking an annoying question you have deemed to be not worthy to be asked.

The forums are there to provide knowledge for the players from the players. Just because some elitist snobs have decided it is there god given right to pass judgement on others does not make it law.

Honestly if a Vet comes back the last thing anyone should be doing is discouraging them from asking questions on how to play the game.

The stupidest question is the one never asked, even if its been asked repeatedly before.

No matter what improvements they make to this game, i will not even contemplate coming back to play me level 42 shaman until they have officially announced that the duping and credit frauds have been fixed and resolved.

In its current state your just looking to get kicked in the nuts once they do fix it . Go to Silky Venom and read all the posts about this and the silence from the devs is deafening.

So yeah forget playing this game till at least that is fixed.

Can't say how I got it, but here's a rough draft of an announcement that will be made in the next few weeks...

As many of you know, SOE is in discussions with Sigil regarding the future of Vanguard and Sigil Games in Carlsbad. Talks are going well and first and foremost, our primary concern right now is what's best for Vanguard and its community. We want to ensure that this game and its community have a healthy future. The specifics that we work out over the coming days will all be with that single goal in mind.

We feel that in order to ensure each class gets the attention it needs, the amount of classes should be reduced. It is too tedious to try to balance 15 classes. To alleviate this problem, we will soon introduce the Vanguard Game Enhancements. This entails the removal of the Dread Knight, Bard, Monk, Psionicist, Disciple, and Cleric classes. Most of their abilities will slowly be rolled into the remaining classes as we introduce more enhancements. Those who currently have characters of the soon to be removed classes will be allowed to respec to any other class of their choice, as long as their race is able to be that class.

Once these changes are in place, the development team will be able to focus more on the remaining classes as well as adding new content at a quicker pace. We feel that these changes are the best thing for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.  We hope the community feels the same way.   Thank you all for your continued support.  We'll see you in Telon.

Do you honestly expect any of us to take you seriously?

Not only does this read like a 10th grader wrote it, you intend for us to expect the removal of the Cleric ? I can see if you had just said disciple but you said Cleric and Disciple...  so you mean to tell us they will keep the Bloodmage and the Shaman but get rid of the most played healer class the Cleric.

Nice try but take the blatant trolling elsewhere. I am far from a Van fan but jeesh try and be at least creative when you troll.

I think the idea is to be able to use all the content in those games again for players who feel overwhelmed by the concept of raiding or 4+ hours of grping in dungeons.

The idea is not to compete with a full functioning single player game. The idea is to make simple alterations to an existing MMO and then allow players to access the worlds in a soloish form. Weather there is a limited singleplayer mode that allows small grps to form like in BG2 would be at the developers whim.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, i would love to just run around int eh game as if its just a single player like say Oblivion.

It would make me want to play WoW again thats for damned sure and i would get the BC expansion to.

Think of getting all new players to buy your game and not even have to worry about those games being pirated anymore, they can fricking just DL it if they want, what the player pays for is the access key. It would be something simmilar to BF2142 where they game has been pirated alot but the real game is the multiplayer and that requires the access to the servers.

I dunno there are so many well done MMOs that i don't even bother with because i just do not have the time to get started in them but think if those games gave you acces to all the content in a solo environment, i would be playign all those old MMOs new to me or even ones i have left behind.

It's a win win for both the devs and the players, not only will it allow the devs to concentrate on more grp based content for the live game it will allow them to just funnel the casual players into the live content with a modified difficulty for them. The players win because those who like the online grp based environs will have a blast knowing that those in the game are like minded, and the casuals can just play at there own pace in the single player version, and still experience it all even if it is a watered down version.

I have to admit after reading this entire post and all the replies to it i have found myself intrigued by how the game is running now.

Course i must admit i have strong reservations about resubbing mainly because i am not a fan of SOE and how they handled the changes they forced on all of its players. But i do have to admit i am semi interested in seeing whats new and what is being added soon. After the dismal release of Vanguard and the boring same as all the rest gameplay in LOTRO i am at a loss as for what MMO will interest me till AOC/WAR/DF get released.

Anyhow this is not a statement for or against the NGE i freely admit that i think it is flawed and a horrible representation of that SWG was and should or even could have been, but i am still curious, and i am still interested in the central games core.

I dunno i guess i will get flamed as this will be seen as a pro-NGE post but its not just me saying that i am semi interested in how it is right now, maybe if the rest took a serious look at the game it might not be as dismal as we all think it is. Course more then likely i will get in game mess around for an hour and just plain hate it. Never can tell till you make the attempt.

So i recently replayed Baldur's Gate 2 again and while i was playing i was thinking to how i would love to take the same kind of single player game and export it to a game like WoW, DAoC, EQ1&2, Vanguard, AO .... you get the point. In other words make encounters act liekt hey do in BG2 and add a small party option.

This could be achieved by a small grp of developers and all they would need to do was introduce small adjustments to monster stats and maybe ai. The small player controlled grp could be along the same lines as Guild Wars henchmen, where you recruit or Hire them, or even more elaborate to have them grow with your main character.

So i am curious if anyone else would be interested in this idea and if they would be willing to pay a subscription for it just like any other MMO player ? To me it could be an answer to alot of the casual players who want to experience these worlds yet don't have the time to dedicate to 40 man raids, or 4 hour uninterruptible quests.

I am sure there are other aspects i have missed and i hope anyone else who likes this idea or even hates this idea will elaborate on it more.

Just curious about this given funcoms widely known rep as a greedy company who half ass does everything and lies to there customers do you have faith they will be any different for AoC?

I played Ao for a number of years I am fully aware of how funcom works and how they handle there player base and have handled there player base for years.I have heard lie after lie after lie told to there customers,I have seen expansion packs released like AI with the main feature of the expansion pack(player shops) not even added into the game till 6 months after ppl paid them for the expansion.

Just curious to you AoC fans if you really think given Funcom's track record that they will somehow manage to do this game right and actually treat there customers better than they have the last 6 years.

Personally i do not believe you ever played AO, AO went onto win the Game of the year after its dismal release. I do not believe you even know what you are talking about. More then likely you read about the bad release of AO and just assumed that the game went down the crapper ever since. Far from it in fact AO was groundbreaking in several areas. Flying mounts were first introduced in AO, most don't know that but its true.

As far as your misleading Title, Funcom has produced anything but bad titles. Longest Journey is acclaimed as one of the best games EVER, and AO as i stated above was made Game of the year by a few respected Game magazines of the time.

You telling us you played AO has to be false unless you left when class balancing issues affected your particular class. Well poo poo class balancing happens in all MMOs in fact one of the biggest MMOs WoW just released a very controversial patch effectively nerfing a large portion of its classes and upsetting alot of players in the process. Does that make WoW unsuccessful now ?? Highly doubtful.

So if your gonna come here and make statements You seem to think are true then back em up with facts, sad thing is i guarantee you won't have them cause as i said AO is very successful and still very popular.

This seems just odd, not sure how serious this post is let alone you understand the ramifications of attempting to even make a MMO.

I can tell you that as a player i am sick to death of fantasy based and class based MMOs. Let alone a leveling tread mill type of progression.

If i was to make my dream MMO it would be either alternate historical, Sci-Fi, or present day contemporary.  I would also make my own intellectual Property and not use something already established. Leveling would be replaced with skill based progression, and classes would not be needed. There could be a large variety of races either human or alien. If i did have alien's i would move far away from a bipedal humanoid and go with strange and varied body types.

If i could i would look into procedural animations and ai, similar to those being created for Spore. Procedural ai will allow for very in depth creature behaviors and there are procedural weather systems also.

I think if it went with a sci fi  theme i would make the world large deserts with a band of jungle along the equator, and huge acrtic expanses at the poles. The main land masses would be barren and harsh. No centralized beginner towns would be available to those who start the game in fact all structures would be researched and then created through an easy to use crafting system, maybe taking a blueprint and nanobot system from Total Annihilation / Supreme Commander idea.

Take that another step and leave all wildlife unnamed and each creature could be named by explorers (course with filters to exclude obnoxious names).

Anyhow i could go on forever talking about these ideas i have a design document that i have been working on but i have not gone beyond writing it all, fact of the matter is i know all to well the type of capitol one would need to make a MMO and publishers are looking for something that will sell not something thats a good concept, my idea is conceptual not the next WoW and really  thats what publishers want. The next WoW will be made by Blizzard and it will be SCO(Star Craft Online).

Indie developers are being slowly fazed out now because of craptastic failures like Dark and Light, and i even have to say Vanguard is a failure also.

Anyhow if you for some reason do have a way to get this kind of capitol and think soem of my ideas are great let me know just PM me or leave a reply here.

Yay another trolling thread.

For the record, I've played both LOTRO and VG, and I can honestly say there's no chance of me ever going to LOTRO. I mean seriously, it's basically a rehashed DDO. The game looks like absolute garbage even on the highest settings.

In VG, I never have a problem finding a group, I almost never have connection problems, I almost never crash. I rarely have any problems at all with the game.

But then again, it wouldn't be a LOTRO thread unless people were exaggerating and bashing VG, right?

Yet again you posting about the kettle being black.

Whew!  Before we start, I too am glad Vanguard is not a car. That said, I am truely amazed at the amount of anger people are venting over a MMO. Especially when people are coming back and constantly venting negatives.
I think the main reason why people are venting and are so damned pissed off is the out and out lies Sigil has perpetrated on its players.

Recommended Specs (from inside the manual since they forgot to paste them on the outside of the box, odd don't ya think?)
-Windows 2000/xp/Vista (Rofl good luck with Vista)
-100% DX 9.0c Compatible Computer
-100% DX Compatible Mouse and Keyboard
-3.0 ghz intel or 3500 AMD Processor
-2 GB ram
-Vertex and pixel shader 2.0 compatible hardware with 256MB of texture memory
-DirectSound compatible audio hardware
-broadband internet connection
-16x DvD-ROM
-20 GB hard drive space

My computer meets or exceeds all of these recommended  specs and unless i set it to ugly ass Lego land mode i get dog turd FPS, 10 on a good night at balanced.

Then Brad says that the game will get better once people can afford to buy more upgrades. . . . WTF ?

Why in the hell would any developer purposely make a game intending for the consumer to buy several hundred dollars worth of hardware just to play it. Sorry i will go buy a G-damned PS3 first cause it will be cheaper then buying the kind of equipment that brad thinks we all need to have to play this game.

MMOs should be lowest common denominator, never bleeding edge. You want to appeal to a broad base of players not a limited small few. I can understand iD and the Quake series of games or the Unreal games, those games are bleeding edge games, but you know what, even if they are bleeding edge they still make them playable on lower end systems. Vanguard is just not playable even on a system Sigil thinks should be able to run it well.

It boggles my mind to even comprehend the design decision to make Vanguard such a bitch to even play, this is not even getting into all the bugs, and Grind, and poor implementation, sad goal achievement, even worse community outreach (no central community forum). No with all those other things aside this game is CRAP to play on decent systems, this game makes you feel like you got a dog turd of a computer when it will play Graphically beasts of games on high detail with fantastic frame rates.

So yeah people are angry they wasted 50 bucks, or even worse 100 if they wanted the SE. People are angry they spent months if not years play testing and telling the developers to change things, only to be ignored in the end. Players are pissed that so many things that lured us all into believing the hype that Brad perpetrated on all of us got lost in the shuffle.

In the end i want a damned refund, but i know i won't get it and i won't even try to get one, in the end i feel as shafted as i did when Dark and Light came out. In the end i will not come back to Vanguard even if they fix all these issues, why ??? Because in the end the mentality that we the consumer have to suck it all up and get used to such a high disregard of respect towards its customers.

Vanguard, i hope, goes down in flames, i hope it leaves the MMO scene fast, but alas i know it will sputter around begging to be in the glory it could have been if a small amount of discretion had been used. I guess thats what you get when we make developers into rockstars and treat them like there more then just a dude behind a computer inputting code to make something we all can enjoy (hell even brad doesn't actually do any programming anymore).

One might wonder how the VG devs will react to the ongoing exodus? I mean, ya you can make teleport and faster horses, but... thats all just minor tweaks. Will teleport bring back the masses of players thet were in VG in later beta?

I am following VG's patches and discussion despite I dont play it yet anymore - hoping it becomes great one day. But everytime I read the testcenter patch notes or real patch notes - they worked over many days and still the majority of changes is "spell X is now at level 26 instead of 24" *yawn* Or "NPCs lv50+ now drop loot" WOW, yes THAT was really a big issue. Level 50 loot drops. Who the FUCK is making such decisions? Is the patch schedule made by Blizzard spies? I mean, they see their 40 milion dollar child going down the drain and all they care about is arbitrary things like moving spells up and back down! You really should not practice patching like masturbating! Tsk...

Thing is DL LoTRO and i tell you i am a huge skeptic while its patching and DLing. Reason being i was in AC2 and i Fell for the hype with DDO and i have a resentment almost as strong towards Turbine (used to call em TURDBINE) almost as strong as i have towards SoE.

So once i got the game up and running i noticed one single outstanding thing. It runs great. I mean i get sweet FPS and the game looks superb. I do not feel i am missing out on any of the graphical content like i do in Vanguard. I got a decent machine and there was no way in hell i was going to upgrade my system just for Vanguard when every other graphic intensive game on the market plays fantastic on my machine already. Seriously, what more would i need to do to get Vanguard to play at a decent frame rate and not look like a game on my old Tandy 1000.

I was a huge fan of the principles of Vanguard the promises the hype, i bought into it all i even flamed detractors of the game and berated them for not seeing its vision. In the end i regretted my blind furor and realized how far from the tree this apple has fallen.

I play LoTRO and i have fun, i look forward to playing it like i did when i popped my MMO cherry in DAoC. The classes are very unique the game play is immersive, and some of the  quests are downright fun. I will admit i miss PvP but i can set that aside for now.

Anyhow, i had high hopes for Vanguard, but in the end i realized it was just a huge grind, Grind out levels, Grind out crafting, Grind Diplo, i will not be surprised if they implement an honor thing for pvp that requires more Grinding.

Attention future developers, killing the same inane mobs over and over for progression does not = fun ! Clicking tiny little boxes on my screen over and over does not = challenging, playing an online collectible card game does not = ground breaking new game mechanic.

I think you all missed the frigging point.

Away missions are a part of the game... the other part should be ship to ship combat or even fleet battles. As far as i know fighters are not a large part of the ST universe. So why make one of the larger portions of the game into something its not. ?</
