The best server is Yuna server.

The best class is necromancer.

Seriously. There is no best server, and there is no best class.

Hehe. I had an elf too in Lineage ;)

Mmm nighttime pictures.

And whm/blm will get partys fairly fast. blm/whm might take a tad bit longer.

it all depends on the luck of the draw really.

sometimes you'll do a /sea all <levelgroup> and you'll see 15 damage dealers lfg but nothing else, other times you'll see 6 or 7 healers and 5 tanks, but no damage dealers.

more often than not it's the dd classes that are lfg longest though.

How is grouping and population at the lower levels? I don't mind waiting like 15-20, maybe even 30 minutes or so for a group (I would be playing a WHM/BLM or BLM/WHM, so I should be pretty desired), but anything more than that would be a little ridiculous. I don't want to be sitting in Valkrum Dunes for an hour just to get a group that will wipe in a few pulls.

Also, how are the economies? Are they still kind of screwed up from farmers, glitchers, and ebayers?

Partys are the same as they've always been. Sometimes it takes 2 minutes comtimes it takes up to an hour to form a group, its just the way that this game is.

The ecnomies right now are great. The GMs have been banning gilsellers left and right taking tons of gil out of the economy which has lowered prices on everything in game, it's wonderful.

Also, nice Lineage icon lol.

I've been playing off and on since 3 months after the NA release.

Right now the economy is the best I've seen it, aside from when I first started. Prices are low, crime rate is way down, test scores are way up, and we have the best water slides in the MMO universe.

it really just means that people have more alts on that server.

most of the servers have about the same number of people.

they JUST started letting people pick what server they want.

FFXIah is not an accurate way to tell how many players are active on a server.

Even the website says it isn't.

Better source please.

Races only make a difference in the very early levels of the game.

With the correct equipment any race can play any job effectively.

Unicorn server is nice.

We have very active forums over at Allakhazam. http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=60
And by active I mean we spam it.

Theres a linkshell that has a lot of the forum regulars in it called "Trion Loyalists" who I've seen give linkpearls to new people starting out all the time if you want to talk to them at all.

If you're interested in Unicorn, just post over on allakhazam, someone will set you up. Normally I'd tell you to send me a /tell in-game if you're new, but my schedule is fubar'd and I'm hardly online as much as I used to be.

Unicorn has it's share of twats that nobody likes, but the community as a whole is pretty good. I believe our Japanese player base is much larger than other servers, but that just makes us that much better.

You said you've been playing MMOs for a long time. Pretty much if you get into a group, and play well, or even if you ask for help instead of trying to tell everyone you know what you're doing and then messing it up, word spreads quickly you're a good player and know how to do your job (assuming you do).

This also works not only for americans and europeans.

If you get invited to a party with Japanese players, and you show you know how to play, you WILL get invited again.

When I leveled my Bard, I never got a Japanese party until I reached about level 34. Once I was in one of them, the next 2 weeks, the moment I'd log on, even before I put up my LFG flag, I'd get a /tell from Japanese players (Usually ones I previously party'd with) saying (Hello!) (Party) (Do you need it?)

If you diddn't know we have an auto-translation function in FFXI that has many useful phrases that help you communicate effectively with players who don't speak your language.

At any time in-game open your chat box and hit TAB on your keyboard, it'll bring up a menu with different categories with different words/phrases that are translated. You select the phrase you want and hit enter.  This also works if you type in a word. Say you type hello and then hit tab, it'll bring up the option to say (Hello!).  When things are translated in-game they have parenthesis around them that are green and red, so you know they're translated and everyone playing the game is seeing the words inside the ( ) in their own language.

Also when you decide on what job you wanna play go to their forums on allakhazam. (I only plug alla because it's the most popular english ffxi site that I've seen)  On their forums read all the FAQs about the jobs, and if you're confused about something ASK FOR HELP.

Haha, wow, I typed a bunch, I hope it helps you out a bit.

The game takes a long time.

If you're looking for a game where you're going to meet new people, and make lasting friendships, this is the game to do it in.

You can't do many things solo in this game, it all requires grouping. Sometimes you get horrible groups, sometimes you get amazing groups, it's all the luck of the draw.

I'd reccomend FFXI over any other MMO. The only problem is the time sink. It takes incredibly long to do anything, really.

Depends on your job.

Some jobs you have to pay attention.

Some jobs you hit attack and go make a sandwich.
