Aion: Polished Levelling, Better Graphics, More Challenges
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/10/12 11:05:50 AM
AION didn't start good, the game was so poorly designed in so many ways, especially for the Western market which are who they were trying to impress to begin with. It was probably the most hyped game in a long while that people really had their eye on; they were expecting a far deeper game than what was delivered, NCsoft made it sound like a new-age WoW with a strong emphesis on story and deep quest mechanics, along with a really in depth and well designed PvP portion of the game. Both parts of the game came up short and were severely disappointing. PvE was atrociously designed, content was spread far too thin, they didn't have nearly enough quests to level with, and the rewards were horrendous. The combat system was the best thing it had going for it outside of the graphics. If they had delivered what they made it sound like, they would of had a massively successful MMORPG on their hands. They didn't, and so people left. Now they're F2P and it's the best decision they could of made for this game if they want to be able to rebuild their playerbase, and grow into a massive success. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Players Reporting New Ilum Issues
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/08/12 4:10:19 PM
The kills work for many, and seem to not work for some. No idea what is causing it but evidently BioWare does.
No idea why this game is rated so poorly on this website, other than this place being known for it's massive trolling community. People want this game to fail for no real good reason other than they're scared of their precious WoW hemorraging subs at a rapid pace and don't want any successor as the top game. This game has almost 2 million subscribers, if not more than 2 million now with a very steady growth rate happening, new servers are turning very heavy every weekend. So ya'll can stop being silly now :D |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: EA Investors' Conference Call Reveals Data
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/01/12 9:30:29 PM
Actually investor's expected between 500,000-700,000 to be satisfied with the performance and consider it a success; BioWare expected 1 million. "Most" of 1.7 Million is still well over 1 million to be considered most, To be under 1.7 million would not be considered "most". |

Fully Voiced Storylines is NOT Innovative....
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/01/12 12:42:13 AM
Fully voiced storylines & dialogue/player choice IS innovative IN THIS GENRE. Never really been done before, adds a hell of a lot more innovation and immersive nature to the game, and is something that is pretty much going to be required for future MMO's that claim to be "MMORPG's" in order to be taken seriously and not seen as lazy, boring, and outdated. Sorry, OP! It takes nothing away, or harms no part of the MMO genre, as all it does is take the system that already exists, put's voice overs and decisions into the players hands, it eliminates nothing and enhances everything.
Don't believe me?
Guild Wars 2 Copernicus/Amalur project And several other newly announced MMO's last year that make up the entirety of anything on anyone's radar over the next few years all have these features to varying degrees. Case closed! |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Endgame Grind: PvE vs. PvP
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/01/12 12:38:43 AM
My biggest criticism of the game is that the stories are far more interesting on 1 faction over the other. Imperial stories are extremely well done, complex at times and mostly compelling the entire way through Republic have a few compelling stories, but they're definitely lacking on classes like the Trooper.
This game is a very well developed and fleshed out MMORPG in every sense that term entails. The planets are all seamless, there is no zoning except into your space ship, and out of it. Most of the "instancing" you ever experience is just a matter of phasing into it such as dungeons and such. No loading screen what so ever. You ONLY ever see that when going to your ship, or using instant travel/equivilant to hearth stone. You progress through the game by doing missions as well as your class missions, like any other MMO, except they're fully dialogued and voiced over. And for the first time in my extensive experience with this genre, they feel IMPORTANT. Like you're actually making a difference in this world, story wise. Anyone who says this isn't a MMO, and is a lobby game is a complete and total idiot and nobody should listen to them as they don't know at all what they're talking about. There isn't a lobby in this game unless you count the VIP lounge which doesn't even require zoning to get to, or the Imperial Fleet I guess, but you cannot access much of the game through either of those, you have to go out and be a part of it like any MMO. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Endgame Grind: PvE vs. PvP
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/01/12 12:31:42 AM
How is SW:TOR not a MMO??? Seriously? What is a MMO to some of you people? Open persistant gaming worlds? Yes. Fully functioning solo, group, raid content intergrated into an open persistent gaming world? Yes... Phasing/Instancing? Hardly at all and only ever in the early planets if the population cap exceeds 200+ in a small area.
Lobbys? None. I could go on; all in all this is probably the biggest MMO I've seen in a long time. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Voice Acting Ups and Downs
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/12 2:12:01 PM
Yes, the VO is needed for EVERY quest. Sorry guys, but you would be bitching about it if it was just in the class story; and this is a staple of BioWare games. You KNEW this was going to be the case and yet you still bought the game, and now you're complaining. This is what BioWare does, if you're not a fan of it, than disable voice overs when you're doing regular quests and turn it on when you're doing your personal ones. It would be really monotenous and seem quite lazy to not have dialogue in every quest, Age of Conan anyone??? Remember how you were all bitching about how the voice overs were exclusive to the personal/destiny quests? This is a LONG since over-due mechanic in MMORPG's, I can't even imagine playing a MMO that doesn't have dialogue for quests, and decent voice overs now. I just won't do it; this is what immerses people into the RPG side of "MMORPG", without it you've just got an MMO. Don't lie and say you wouldn't complain if the regular missions weren't voiced over and/or didn't have dialogue. You would be. This game is a huge success with what it has, unfortunately the operations loot bug is causing trouble, and Illum did before they fixed it so who knows what'll happen at this point, as the MMO community is pathetically impatient and unforgiving of the slightest misstep of new games. But this game is the first to really grab me, or any of my guild members, since vanilla WoW. In-game you mainly just hear praise over the game, and it's voice/dialogue system. |
|
|
Actually, in SW:TOR if the leveling system were a bit slower it would work well, at least at the later levels as it slows significantly in the middle section than appears to just pick right back up in the 40s. Great game, lot's of content, unfortunate bugs at the end-game. Over all best MMO to come out since WoW, and the leveling experience in SW:TOR trumps the one in WoW. Dialogue/voice overs, etc = long over-due in this genre. |

Graphics performance in SWTOR is atrocious for many
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/24/12 4:06:01 PM
It runs great for most people that have modern gaming rigs, the only place people have really had problems is the Fleets where theres hundreds of people in a small space. The patch today fixed that. |

Guild Wars 2: Open Beta and Release This Year - Year of the Dragon
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/23/12 1:08:13 PM
the playthroughs of GW2 (conventions and the like), it's really boring compared to SW:TOR....The voice acting isn't as good, there's not nearly as much of it and for the most part it just feels like Rift 2.0 mixed with some GW1...I used to really want this game, but now I'm not so sure. I'll probably get it because its B2P, but they're talking about how they don't believe in an end-game, so the game they create is what people will be playing, from start to finish over and over again instead of supporting post-cap content to a major degree. This bugs me! |

So where's this mass exodus?? Looks like the hate community was wrong!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/22/12 9:25:08 AM
Pretty much....There was no mass exodus lol, like 95% of the playerbase stayed, people just like bitching. The servers are STILL growing in population, with the newest servers STILL going from standard to heavy, and a new very heavy server every weekend. Sooo rofl @ the trollololols |

Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/05/12 2:59:42 PM
Pretty good review! I wish players reviews would be posted instead of the "official" reviews given by the people running these websites, sometimes lol. You can always tell when a website's staff is biased for or against a game. |

If any of their demonstrations that I've played in the past are any indication, this game is a loooooooooooooooong way from being released. It's probably entered in-house or F&F testing at most, I can't imagine a full scale closed beta with what I've seen so far. I was really looking forward to this game for a long time, probably more so than anything else for a while there but...Not anymore! |

If it truly is KotOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.......
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/05/12 2:51:33 PM
This game is very worth it.
As for the question about how much money it's worth, you're gonna be paying a subscription so add that up over the amount of time it would take to make up to KOTOR 10 in singleplayer rpg's. :D The storylines in this game are fantastic for the most part, theres a couple I don't care for but that's mainly due to class preferance over anyhting else. Anyone who says otherwise must not like RPG's. The missions outside of the class specific missions are also really well done. I wish all MMO's were more like this game, it's about time there was a MMO that had the RPG in it. They blend the MMO and the RPG together flawlessly to create what they've created, and that's easily the best MMORPG I've ever played, and one of my favorite games all together so far. |
