lol. Conversations are going to be a bit more entertaining than I thought :P

Notice the NPC getting punched in the background....

The bounty hunter would be a much cooler concept if this game was done right in the first place.

In a real Star Wars world the bounty hunters and smugglers would be the cash kings who make their money with serious risks attached.  Loans and deals could be made and broken.  A bounty hunter would be able to track down players who have made enemies with various factions in the SW world or other players.

In a real Star Wars world a bounty hunter could show up at any time to haul in or kill another player.  It would be PVP but the right kind of PVP, with bounty hunters having the best tracking and capture skills in the game.

"NO disintigrations."

But this is WoW 2.0 so they'll just be another cartoon class with a cool name.

Utter Rubbish..... With all the content and detail they have released this will be far better than an ageing game.

The hate is dripping off of your post ; just not subtle enough... have fun playing whatever you play....

So you think role playing games shouldn't be about adventure and actions? What should they be about then? Some scholar life locked in a tower and learning magic?

Yes ...... Tactical based combat i.e. Gameplay (Mental) not mashing buttons arena games exist for that.

Longevity;Large Expansive Worlds; A chance to develop a charachter to live in a trully amazing world and fight against the evils of the world.

Adventure and Action yes not player skill with respect to how well they can use a keypad, that is something altogeether different and does not fit with the time and effort put into developing persistent worlds.

People think this website takes an accurate pulse of the MMORPG genre?

Cute.

You need to get real, if you believe this.

Better Sites Places and People than this entertainment forumn exist tenfold.

You know that saying ...... If I ever feel down I come here as it always cheers me up and i get to realise that things aren't really bad at all.

These days I play smaller online games that provide a lot of entertainment , all but two or three current MMOs are worth their salt. So I could be classed as bitter and twisted to how a once beautiful genre has been ruined.

The introduction of Bioware into the MMO arena can only be a good thing.

Judging the latest trends it's far better to wait a month or two after launch before deciding to fork over any cash, or wait a little longer for free trials and or the inevitable free to play model.

Not really game cost such an irrelevant ammount of money with respect to gameplay time against other ativities/passtimes that not really anything justifies waiting for release. Unless a little lag or the odd bug bothers you.

I will be comparing most things to WoW because .......

A shame really because having played a lot if not all the online games prior to WoW you are missing out on a balanced view of how good an MMO can really be, not just an easy mode romp. WoW is a well put together game for making money is it really fun or challenging ... NO not really.

Sadly the majority of the current MMO playerbase because of WoW means that the genres' player base has been dumbed down so much that challenging and fun MMOs are a rarity these days.

SWTOR or any game I play is fun because it is to be enjoyed with friends, the problem is is there any real gameplay. SWTOR I believe because of the vast ammounts of content and worlds that can be explored does have a lot more value than the general dross being rolled out.

MMOs like Citadel of Sorcery are the types of development that may bring something back to the genre sadly the playerbase is now split with people who enjoy game play and those who just require auto win in a month which consiists of the WoW clones and Pay to Win games/ I mean F2P.

Simple reply no they don't. For MMOs to be fun you need;

  • Depth
  • Longevity
  • Decent Gameplay design
  • Large World and lots of content
  •  World with History and a purpose
A number of things that contribute to the downfall of MMOs
  • Insta Travel
  • Insta Mail
  • Auction Houses instead of shops and real trading
  • Guilds instead of communities fighting against the World Environment you are playing in
  • Insta Quest Hubs and Whack a Mole tactics

The only people getting invites should be from the pool of 500k preorders Bioware has at the moment. Handing out random invites to people who just signed up and didn't give you any money towards the development of your game is just bad form.

Really , I would send out to the opposite to increase the playerbase ....... The Pre Order people are hooked. Giving non pre order people a chance increases the chance they some will decide to play for real.

A sad day for Aion. NcSoft fixing their broken game with a cash shop. Now you got the option to spend 1000s of hours of grind to beat the random number generator or to pay extra $$$.

It's simple just don't play lots of great free games about no need to get sucked in and pay for the priveledge.....

Okay. So, i palyed COH/V back in 06, i had two copies of the game attached to my account.

Serial Codes Used on this Account

Type Date Used Serial Code
Collector Dec 3, 2006 XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-7G29
Retail May 5, 2008 XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-8TFM

However. When i go to play the free version. I have every, single, limitation, of free players. Which means, in order to play characters i've ALREADY, MADE! Not only do i have to unlock their character slots. But i have to BUY, THE GAME, AGAIN!. What is this, NC soft? thats a great way to treat returning costumers.

Also, in unrelated news. I'm running windows vista, when i boot up the game, my mouse disappears. the usual fix no longer works on the new edition because it runs through the NC launcer, rather then the cohupdater.exe

A great example of why F2P isn't F2P as always.....

Great news this and a relief. Enforced or not, RP-PVP has always been my server type of choice.

*trots around in circles excitedly*

Makes the server a little pointless... A roleplay sever where roleplay is not enforced and immersion which is a key part of roleplay is made irrelevant by a non enforced naming policy... Pointlesss.

pretty much what all veteran mmo players expected, another wow clone to make money,

Bioware's co-founder admitted it too earlier this year.

You are wrong , they basically said only idiots would ignore the Blizzard/WoW approach. Two different things.

No such thing as Free to Play and as soon as trading standards get on top of the deceit associated with this the better.

You just have to laugh.

SWTOR is releasing. Developed by a 100% professional outfit based around a great IP.

Nothing else really matters. It is all about the now...

The article above is of poor quality an also a poor approach misleading and applicable to probably delided MMOers' which I guess the writer has to cater for on this site.

Cash shop on top of a sub fee.... Wow NC screw you good seriously that is MESSED UP. You see how greedy people are these days? Praise GW2 for how it really should be buy the game and have fun!

And while you play they eat bread and water... It works both ways greedy developers and tight players. Best model is just a standard subscription, provides funds to develop the game and keeps peeps interested.

I understand that from a maketing point of view it is wise to just drop a key phrase like that to bump the pre-order, but it is vague and not very wise for us the customers.

Should I wait and see after release if the game is good? (All mmos since wow have been a major bore fest) Or should I pre-order just because the hype got me and I wanna play ASAP? Theses are the usual concerns of players, but with a ''early access'' guaranted, some will pre-order, then get dispointed with the game, then regret having buying it.

So what is an early access? A month? A week? A day?

Early access is exactly what it says , access before the official release date or another term used is head start.....

The cost of an MMO is trivial from an expense perspective even if you only play it for a couple of night you have your moneys worth so that does not even come into the equation.

Definition:

Early

Definition: Soon; in good season; seasonably; betimes; as, come early.

Access

Definition: A coming to, or near approach; admittance; admission; accessibility; as, to gain access to a prince.

So what we get from this is getting something earlier (before) we have admittance to it.
So a better name for it should be Pay For Early Access. Yes we are paying for early access and a head start.

I can't or am not going to live with any false expectations... with respect to content in or out of the game.

The only expectation I have is that more content gets added on a regular basis and that includes additional planets, which is a basic request that will happen.

I would be surprised if additional; planets/partial planets are not already in game..... but lets wait and see thats the whole enjoyment of the game to come.

A planet for all intents and purposes is just another Zone so not hard to do , once they have a suitable environmental tile set available.

Okay I also recieved that E-mail about the release date but this is about something differnet as the title implies

Now that EA has a release date set when do you think we will start seeing commercials on say TV and the like for the game.

We already know EA considers this one of their front runner games that they want to put out there..especiallly for their MMO scene.

We know that Bioware set up an entire studio for this game, so i figured a commercial is a given, just not sure when to think they will start. Also feel free to speculate as well what the commercial will show, remember it's trying to appeal to star wars and Bioware fans.

If you want you can put forth videos of the game as your idea to as long as they don't contain any NDA breaking material (until such time as the NDA drops naturally).

Remember this is a speculation thread, not a discussion thread on release dates or EA habits on the types of advertising. Lets try and keep this strictly to when you think they will start showing and what it might contain, thanks.

They already have the box sets in the STores; The videos / trailers would fit nicely to TV. I am not sure how much advertising they need before XMAS but I would expect some limited , with a lot more advertising after Christmas.

They have more than enough subs with Pre Order , to load for release. Staggered customers joining the game suits them and fits in with a good gaming experience as the environment is likely to be more stable early 2012 than at release.

Well, did you? ;)

Get real this is a game which I will be enjoying at a leasurely pace with friends......

Christmas is for partying Family and Friends and remembering those that are not here anymore....... SWTOR is just a game and the sooner people realise this the better.

(We all have many many months to enjoy this , XMAS comes but once a year......)

Barak , nice post.

What stands out for me if the Professional approach that Bioware have taken from day one until now. A prime example of a good/great developer.

See you in December well in mind because you will never know ......... who lurks behind that cornice.
