Neither Snail nor horse are quite fantastic, huh? Being a flying horse, populating flying cities, casting strong wind and/or weather magic to protect their realms, would possibly a thing I'd like to play. If able to carry another (elven?) fighter on "my" back would give such an idea much more life. |

Yes, it DOES matter, as I am a roleplay gamer and not interested in killing 10 rats, then 20 rats and then 100 rats and so on. For me there is more in a game than leveling and questing. And that depends on what you are. When iam playing a dragon, i do not behave as human. It is a difference, because being a elf acting like a Unicorn would not make any sense. |

I tried EVE, but as I am a pilot in real life that kind of steering is absolutely inacceptable. |

Eh... non-human... ok... but still only bipeds. Nothing with wings, running on 4 legs or something similar fantastic. Only humans in another shape, though. |

Since left Istaria (Horizons) due to a lack of players, I tried several free or trial MMOs. But everywhere its the same: Only HUMANS, Elves, Dwarves, Orks, maybe godd and bad one though, but thats it! In Horizons we had Dragons, Sslik (reptile creatures), Dryads (butterflylikes), fiends (blue devils), gnomes, half-giants, Saris (catlikes), Satyr and of course dragons, elves and dwarves. Why arent there other games with player creatures like, unicorns, pegasi, wolves, griffins or other really fantastic stuff. There are more than enough humens on earth, why let them rule even fantastic realms? |

Good luck! I am on the same server. Maybe we'll meet sometimes. |

I Think The Question We're All Asking Is...

You are right green. I really miss this things you list and I am still seraching for something similar. I tried all the big games and many F2Ps meanwhile but never found something like Horizons again. Alas... istaria is far to huge for some handfulls of people digging in their lairs and plots. Ages ago the blight spread and brought the threat of undeads onto the living races. Nowadays the whole game is undead. Neither dead nor alive. The only place to see players frequently is Bristugo, because of its portals. That is everything else than enough, to make a word looking alive. I hope there will be a sequel or another game with at least a Horizons-like crafting system and other races than only the always seen humans, elves and dwarves. Hail to thee, dragons of Istaria.

Thanks Lethal! Did not found it so far, but I'll have a second look.
I do not know something like spamming any keys, except Diablo maybe. If you like this kind of fight its ok. I dont mind. But although I do not like that high speed games like counterstrike, I like certain movement and some more realism. Thats just my opinion, not a dogma for the rest of the world. |

There is no error in that review. Atlantica is a nice looking game and quite fun. However, there are some things, that will prevent me from playing it much longer: I do not like the turn-based fight. Building a party is nice for exping, but there is no hunting fun, because there is no movement running towards to or away from the mobs. Most time you are battling alone, or within a long distance party just for more XP. Similar to this, the cities are quite beautiful, but all plays are sitting or standing at the gates, because you can access the Market, bank, hospital and all other facilities by menu. Not very realistic though and due to this, there seems to be no roleplay at all, just crowds of players silently waiting or doing something you can't see. Last point I do not like is, that you are forced to make crafting quests or hire mercenaries you do not really need, because the fights are rather easy. Ok... one more point: Usability. You cant invert the mouselook and you cant disable that nasty "video-sequenzes" in fight, as well as there is no way to define shortcuts or keys for certain actions, everything is static. Nice looking game, but somewhat... unfinished. |

wow people still play this game?

Hum, time to get back to Istaria for me... I'll give it another try, although my main char wont be transferred from Unity by now. |

If horizons was rereleased....

I'd shurely return. But Hadesprime is right: The name is ruined. Better take the idea and create "Horizons2" or whatever it might be called. I lost my ancient dragon with the fade of unity. But i would prefer to see a brand new game than a bunch of fixes. I cant stand this bleeding to death of Istaria. Call the Lunus and the Helian for the last great battle and BURN IT DOWN! Like Kurgan (Highlander, first part) said: "It is better to burn out, than to fade away!" |

Horizons now free to play!

I was hoping for Unitas (the US-Version of the European Server "Unity") to come a long time. My hope is gone. And same happened to my ancient dragon. After a bug preventing me from playing for month i started searching for alternatives more than a year ago. I havent found anything similar to this. Dark Age of Camelot? To many borders/no go areas on the map. Strange RvP modus... Eve? I am a pilot. I wanna fly. This steering controls arent even similar to real flight. "Dont go to low secs!" Everyone tells. I was there for days in a (forgot the name) Starter ship, not capable to be anything but tiny. WoW? Level 60 in 4 Weeks? Oh no.... Maybe 70 nowadays? Rappelz? Looking good, playing free. Getting what you pay for: Stable Lags, frequent disconnects, easy quests and mobs, dreadful grinding, out of the question chat client, community? Never heard! I tried some more, not worth some letters. Horizons has outdated graphics now, had a bunch of bugs (Which MMO hasnt?), and is definitely dying now. But it had free flight, great background story, huge fascinating quests (at least for the dragons), and a real tough community on all servers I played (Ice, Unity, Order). I really miss this game. It may be still running, but 30 people online wont keep it. Hopefully the idea will be picked up and transferred into a new state of the art outfit with well payd devs behind the scene. I cant stand all that manga-style grinding games and movie clone games anymore! Please Lords of MMO, give us a game to use our brain, not only the right forefinger for frequent clicking on hack and slash! |

I am playing the game again. And I see the signs. Kion which was once a great marketplace is now empty. Its even worse on Unity due to that GN dudes unwilling to give support to the users.
I am now playing on order, and its still the most fascinating MMO I ever played. But if EI isnt capable to show they are interested in hearing the peoples voices they will also fail to grow again. Finiaroth on Order Eisdrache on Unity |

Agrree!
I do not care about PvP. But a flying char like an angel without free flight? NO WAY! Without freeflight I might try it, but I wont buy it! |

I played Hz vor almost 3 years on the european "Unity"-Shard. I do not know wether Bowman was involved in anything, but what I cant truly say is: There wasn't any support in europe, and that was the reason I cancelled my account.
I cant understand why people call the graphics outdated. As most roleplaying people I know havent that high end first-person-shooter optimized machines, it is still one of the most beautiful looking games out there, especially if you havent the hardware to max all graphic options. I just hope EI will listen to the community and fire the european team. Or better: Merge all servers (except blight) to create a richer player base and start a new raise. If so, I will be back and my teeth and claws will again strike back the blight. |

I quit playing Horizons at the end of april, because the european support was not willing to help, me when I got stuck inmidst my ARoP after more than 2 years.
As stated before, there are no dungeons. But there are at least 3 greater caves coming up my mind. First for shure the dwarven city beyond Aughundel. Second the cave under the werewolve isle, Third the Cave unter the Island of Fire. As I am a 30 feet tall dragon I do not really have a use for dungeons to get stuck in. I tried DAoC and Eve the last weeks, as they are highest ranks MMOs here. Maybe they are interesting if you like PVP/RVR... but I prefer the direct combat style of Horizons! So I disagree with Jon. Maybe the victim of my firebreath does not burn... but the victim of my Breath of Ice freezes! *grinning* As there is much conversation in the game and even in combat, at least much more than in Eve and DAoC, and its (in comparision with EVE) direct way to move and fly, it is THE game i felt most excited in combat. Try the trial! But stay away from the european shard "Unity", as there is no real support. Not that you need much, but if you need a single String added to your profile after more than 2 years, its awesome they cant do it within 6 Months! |
