Have you rage quit an mmo? What sent you over the edge?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/02/10 4:33:59 PM
I have rage quit over game mechanics. It was years ago, I can't even remember the name of the game. It was F2P, Oriental mythology based with Mounted combat. Really good graphics. Tons of weapons and skills. I decided to gather materials to create some items. There were a lot of options for crafters and I was excited. So, I set off to the gathering feilds and started loading up. Was about to quit when someone approached me. Absolutely no indication he was an enemy, when he One-hit killed me?!?!? Then, when I revived I realized everything I was carrying was gone!!! All I had left was my weapon and armor. All my potions, scrolls, tools, everthing I just mined/gathered, ... gone! There was no mention of the gathering area being open PvP. No warning at all. And then dropping everything when you die.... ARGH! I rage quit, right there. Uninstalled, walked away. I've played dozens of mmos and I had never seen that "Drop Everything" mechanic. I've seen "Percent chance to drop" before but never everything! |

MO sold less than 1700 copies since Open Beta ...
General Discussion « Mortal Online 5/07/10 3:16:26 AM
I'm not surprised. I played the Beta briefly, but it constantly crashed so I quit. I have a good reliable rig so I was in shock when it blew up. I was very interested in the game until then. But lack of performance totally turned me off... :( So chalk me up as the 0.01 % who had technical problems who didn't buy. It looked good, but seemed way too sandboxy. Felt like I was dumped into environment with no purpose. But, Lack of sales could just be a reluctance to commit considering all the pre-order shenanigans recently. You never know! |

General: Report: Blizzard's Next MMO an MMOFPS?
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/09/10 3:33:55 PM
"True Lies" Online LOL FPS with a Sims aspect, dum-de-dum-dum, Dumb! Who plays the Sims any more?? Boring... What ever happened to "Ghost", based on the starcraft characters. It was a damn shame when that project got canned. This might just be a rehash of those rumours. But adding a sims aspect?... please... :P |

In response to my quote: LOL, thanx. Don't get me wrong, sandbox is nice, but without some direction to generally wander toward, it seems pointless. Like I said, I couldn't even find any kind of storyline quest back then. Thanx for the read |

I remember following Dark & Light and all the buzz about how good it was going to be. Then I got an official invitation to D&L's "Settlers of Ganareth". I was totally baffled when I couldn't find any way of downloading the client. I remember scouring the forums, which was full of glowing comments (nothing negative at the time) and not finding any links to a download !?!? I am soooo glad I did not pre-order, dodged a bullet there! I believe D&L is why I have never pre-ordered anything. I also agree that SWG should've been higher on the list. I bought the original "An Empire Divided" thinking, "It's a Star Wars property, how could it be bad?". Wow was I in for a let down. Picture this: 1) It's the Star Wars universe and you start the game trapped on a brown blob of a planet. (Graphics weren't so hot, not awful, but not good either) NO Ships!!!!!??? I couldn't believe it. What is Star Wars without ships. A bad futuristic WoW clone. 2) Quests and cities were spread out so thin it felt like you had to run for days to get anywhere. I don't think I ever finished any real quests besides, "deliver this" quests that just gave you money as a reward. Storyline quests? Never came across them! 3) Randomly running into things that would kill you in one or two hits. Or getting ganked by the only player you come across in weeks. You couldn't tell what level things were or if they were PKers!!! 4) Everything was so expensive it felt like you'd never be able to afford a better... anything!! 5) It was so open ended (sandboxy), that it had absolutely no direction. 6) Imagine your favourite MMO releases a new class, but they won't tell anyone how to become this new class!! Forget becoming a Jedi. How to become one was a secret and no one was willing to share it. Some people claim they would remove any posts about "How to be a Jedi" from the forums. That was a very sore point for me. Anyways, I slogged through my free month, eventually making some bone armor, running a few mining bots and buying a sand speeder and a house, but the experience was hostile and empty. I felt like SOE just slapped "Star Wars" on something with dollar signs in there eyes. It was bad, so I gave up and decided Sony would never get my money again. I know they added ships to the game and changed the core mechanics of the game(don't know how), but they will not sucker me again. What's that? Beta test PlanetSide for you? Well Sure I will!..... ugh. Even after years I still remember the anger and disappointment like it was yesterday. Oh well, no big deal now. I just replied to the main post, so if I have duplicated anyone else, my apologies. I will read the rest now. :) Yes! Earth & Beyond, was a great game I played faithfully until they released an expansion that clogged the servers and lag became unbareable in some zones. It was soon to be shutdown by EA. Before the expansion my Progen Warrior Nanto had made it to 110, had a guild and everything. Loved the formation flying and the Self Destruct ability (which was pretty useless but fun). Then Poof! It was all gone. They need to think more "Long Haul" for MMOs, but some companies are just looking for short term Cash-Cows. There will always be both, unfortunately. Great article, Thanx! |

Beta Contest Winner Still Not Acknowledged
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 11/19/08 2:45:44 PM
I too won a beta key, but have heard nothing from TCOS. They are really slow doing things there. I've been following TCOS from the start and I'm not sure about how they expect to run an MMO with their lack of customer support and over shooting their timetables by months. It doesn't look good for them, but I guess time will tell. |

Thanx Zorvan, but I was using IE7 lol Still no reply from PW to my email... In my case, I did get the initial activation email, but link and code to activate doesn't seem to work. |

Same thing happened to me. When I use the beta key it says, "there was a problem, email here", so I emailed but no response. 5 days later, still nothing. |

Silkroad Online: 100,000 Concurrent Players
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/26/08 2:58:04 PM
So I'm not alone! I loved this game when I first played it, great graphics and lots of fun. I'm just sad I can't even log-in anymore. Now i'm just endlessly roaming the internet looking for something comparable. Such is life... |

Silkroad Online: 100,000 Concurrent Players
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/25/08 3:40:08 PM
I played SR a long time ago and went back to play again recently. I tried to start the game and it said all the servers were full, I couldn't connect to any server!?! I tried this for several times a day for almost a week, still couldn't play!! I found out from the forums that all the servers are full of bots, constantly, making it almost impossible to connect. So 7 million bots are enjoying the game now, what a shame. |

Hey, it's a broadband world where I live. I was just surprised at the fact I had to download so much more than the original installer. Why wasn't the installer bigger? And I see EQ2 has lots of add-on packs which explains that part. I went off on a tangent with SOE's poor online presence, with the shitty online casual games. This baffled me. Like I said, Sony is a huge name. Why no one has bothered to improve their online presence is weird. Yes, they have SWG and EQ2, but all I hear are complaints about SWG and SOE's policies. No one is twisting my arm, true. 47 hours downloading? Yikes! Hope it was worth it. As for the game it's pretty good, but I've already lost interest. Tired of "Whack rats with sticks" games. Why do I even bother posting... all I get is "Poor baby" and "screw you", you people need to take chill pills, seriously, why all the hostility... Someone delete this thread please |

Yikes! What's with all this chatter, I was just venting over the "download the library of congress to play a trial" thing. Finally played it for a bit and it's not bad, nothing special. Graphics are good. Can't seem to find a mini-map, which would be nice. I was just suprised at the slow download speed, I've played plenty of other mmos that update in a flash. To all, don't take anything you see on the net seriously! If you read everything with a neutral tone, you won't get upset over little things that just don't matter. Relax, life is too short. |

I am very disappointed..... Here's the story why. I thought I would try the Play the Fae trial Everquest is offering, so I download and install. I'm thinking this will only take a short time and I will be playing. Boy was i wrong! I created a new account and got the updater running. This is where it all goes to crap. Now you have to understand I have a very stable cable internet connection, I have clocked downloads with Getright at almost 600K/s. I know that is a little overstated, but I don't have connection problems, don't go there. So, the updater does the file check, no prob, and starts to download the update. OMG 4 hours is the projected time to finish!?!?! WTF, this is SONY, one of the biggest electronics companies, ever! And they can't foot the bill for a fast server??? Ok calm down, so, I wait, and wait. Ok, lets look at the other things sony's station pass offers while I wait. Hey look some casual online games, lets try Infantry Online. Not too long of a wait to download. Everquest is still churning away in the background. I get into the game, do a little reading, wtf is this... pick a room, ok, try bug hunt, sounds like I'm going to kill some bugs, ok fine... hmm, top down graphics, not so good, uh... how the hell do you control this!?!? wtf, I'm a bug!! I'm realing at the shear crappiness of it all, THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE!!!!! Then I laugh as I see the only other person on the server blow my bug gutts all over. OK, so this sucks, EXIT, DELETE, next. Everquest is still 3 hours away. Fine, Sony must have something else to keep me busy. Look, Cosmic Rift? Sure let's try it. Admittedly I have been spoiled by EVE online, and before that, Earth & Beyond. But, I've played retro games to pass the time. Ok, download and start playing. omg same look and feel as Infantry online.... wtf, ok let's see what I can do. Rogue Trader sounds good, I like mining and collecting, try that. Uh, can't mine or harvest, only thing my ship does is move, shoot and bump into things. Can't find anything to shoot, lots to bump into...... I give up, this is also TERRIBLE, EXIT, DELETE, next. Everquest is still two and a half hours to update... I am mistified at how SONY online has the crappiest online "portal" I've ever seen... I'm very unimpressed. Still waiting for Everquest..... just venting. Ugh |

I loved E&B, and was really upset when it was canned. Yes, it had problems, like the expansion that lagged from hell, but it was one of the first Sci-Fi mmos with a good back story and ingame plots. It laid the ground work for EVE and the others (that's where most E&B'ers ended up). EA mishandled it, that's for sure. E&B2 would only do well if it was much bigger, and if walking around in stations and on planets was more than just resupplying (Character skills and ship skills). I'd give it a try! Take it home Kordesh! |
