Hehe its all good. But in all honesty I Don't even play the game, let alone have it. Fantasy MMO's bore me. I tried it in beta but that was it. I'm just trying to change people's outlook because some of the things I see people complaining about, are almost as absurd as some of the fanboi's reasons for why the game is great.
Just want to point one thing out. The designers have stated a couple times now that this game was designed for the directx 10 version. Now most of us aren't exactly gleaming with computer savy and willing to buy a Operating System off on release so not alot of us have Vista. But I say give it at least 5 months when everyone starts buying a vista and then this game should be running more smoothly.

Now the actual code bugs are tricky. But then again what game has been released without bugs? If there ever was a game it didn't last. As there are always bugs in a game. Theres always gonna be something wrong. Alls I'm saying is try looking at the glass thats half full, not half empty.
Hello mmorpg.com staff. I was recently looking at your Poll's section and I noticed that you guys aren't exactly the poll type of guys are you? Hehe with only 3 polls for the total of year 2002 and then 21 for the year 2005 I think that seems a little imbalanced. I was just wondering would you guys care for increasing the polls you guys host here?

Another suggestion could be to include a forum post linked to the poll. So people could debate there own opioions and people could understand how exactly the polls came out.

I'm sure a lot of you probably remember the days where if you told a friend you played a mmorpg, they would do 1 of 2 things. The first would be asking you what the hell is a mmorpg? The second is hard to get the exact words your friend would say but I'm sure it was something around like LOL, LMAO, ROFL, etc. Does anyone remember those days?

If you said no then I got to ask you something...how old are you? The reason I ask is because I’m 16 and that time was only 3 years ago. When I first got involved in a mmorpg, it was by a friend of mine who was home-schooled. He was a bit bizarre to be honest, but I was always nice and always giving everyone a chance before I judged. The game he got me involved in isn't important, but it’s the point of the matter that he did get me involved in a MMORPG. Now up until this point in my life, I was getting tired of video games as any game usually could be beaten within 1 week of getting it and this was incredibly boring. Once I played a MMO I was hooked, there was no end-game content, there was no "credits" or playing the game over as Mr. Tofu who was a 4 foot tall white metal beam killing zombies. What I found out when I told people at school about mmorpg's was both of the above examples I gave. Now jumping back 3 years time to present 2007...

I went to school and asked a few people if they knew what a mmorpg was? Seeing as I am on the football team, many who did know what I was talking about were completely shocked. To my surprise though, when I told a few of the "popular" kids what a mmorpg was they didn't laugh, they didn't make fun of me, they just told me they already knew what a mmo was and there little brother, friend, etc. played one of those "things".  Do you guys realize how much the MMORPG industry has changed in the last 5 years?

Now here’s where the Climax is reached and then you guys are left all alone with no more guidance from me like a 50 dollar prostitute in Vegas. Almost all people I talked to about mmorpg's always managed to mention the same thing. This common denominator if you will. All the popular kids referenced this animal as the one there friends, brothers, etc. played. It is the 800 pound guerilla I’m talking about. The one called World of Warcraft. Now personally I hate the game as it is too kiddy for me, not hardcore enough, no player cities, and pvp is a joke, etc. But I respect WoW for they changed the MMO Industry. They were the people who stood up on the podium and introduced the world to MMO's.....

Sand Storm Army

How long has this guild been established:
SSA started her roots in SWG's pre-cu era or 2003.

Current Active Members:

40ish

What Kind of Server are you guys gonna play on?
PvP(continent vs. Continent)

Do you have your own Website?

www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx

Do you have your own Ventrilo?

Yes we do contact me via here or our site for details.

Are you guys playing anything else?

We have members that play many different games. A few of us play Battlefield 2142 every other night or so when we get tired of mmos. A couple of us play guild wars, eve, wow, and swg. We like to do different games and have members who play all sorts of games. Were a guild that doesn't forget about people when they wanna try something new. Usually we'll try it too.

What kind of players do you have in the guild now?
We have various types of people. We have jokers, generals, anal's, you name it.  We all have the same mind set though. We wanna have fun but be the best at the same time. If  it calls for sacrificng fun to be the best, then we won't go for the gold.

What kind of guild structure do you have?

We currently have a Council system. With the release of vanguard things will obviously be changing to suit the exact needs of the game.

What type of player are you looking for?
Were looking for all sorts of players. We don't care what your past has been, but here are some rough guidelines in helping us and you in the proccess....
-Probaly if your not open-minded, you won't make it
-Be patient. Were not talking waiting for a tree to grow patient but don't be poking us ever 2 seconds
-Willing to learn and try new things
-Use ventrilo(we like to talk, don't want to hurt our creaky old hands :P)

Please ask any questions this may not have anwsered for you. I will anwser as many as I can and as soon as I can.

The hook is having freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want? I hate to break this to them, but that's in all MMOs. I highly doubt their raid game is gonna have much freedom once expansions start coming out, and the game is balanced towards raiders.

How about experience the game first hand and then call it a raid game. Also, can you name me one MMORPG that doesn't have raids?

I believe what they were talking about when they said the first mmo with raiding is the raid system they have. No instances(wow's off the list, eve, etc.). Then the raids are not meant to be completed at all. They are meant to be huge(have you ever even seen one of these dungeons?) so that numerous amounts of players can be at the dungeon and you not have to worry. They also have stated that these dungeons will have resting areas.

Now can you name me any mmo that has that TYPE of raid system that I just described? The only one I know with a system like that is...ohh...Vanguard.

Thanks for the reply's guys. Its helped me a lot understand this question and Ive been able to see where other people are coming from.  I can see why they might need to rush it. Everyone needs to start making money right? But then I get to thinking....Sure the devotees of the game have replied here there gonna play at launch no matter and that I can understand, but what about everyone else? I heard a rumor that this game is the 2nd most expensive mmo yet to date. With so much money built into it wouldn't it be a waste to rush the release and have a bad release?

Have you ever had a good start in a race of some kind and your doing good the whole race. Even if you mess up in that race you still have tons of room for error as you got that good start. Now if you have had a good start then you probaly have expiernced a bad start too. When you get a bad start in a race you need to be perfect to make it against your competor's.

My point is that I don't want Vanguard to have a bad start. There gonna have to be perfect in the following months in order to even fill the servers. That is my concern. That is why I'm scared of them releasing it earlier then it is actually ready.

(P.S. btw PS3 has a blue-ray disc player which by itself a BR player costs as much as the PS3. Thats why Sony is losing money, but on a side note it was the same thing last year. They were losing money from the PS2. Sony is a huge company. One bad project in one field is not gonna make them bankrupt. It may be failing in North America but Sony has a very loyal fan base in Japan and its selling like hot cakes in japan.)
For anyone who knows the basic info about this game knows that they want a release date of January. They probaly also know that they recently just went into open beta. My question first came to me when I was talking with a friend who works for a very big gamer magazine. You probaly have a copy on your desk. He thought the same thing as me. He was also talking to the senior editor of the same magazine and the senior editor thought the same thing as well. My question at first seems so simple, but when you really look into the question I realized it got more complex and even more complex then my understanding.

Why is Sigil online pushing for a late January release when just last week they didn't even have there diplomacy quests in the game? The game seems to have potential but the simple fact is, there not ready for release at all.

My friend pointed out a very good point to me. But before I actually state my point I just want to say this is not a SOE bashing post and I am not being biased. He pointed out to me that when Microsoft was there publisher they were nice and slow, keeping things at a nice pace, working on some amazing graphics. Then When SOE took publishing over it has seemed they have been getting pushed. Before SOE took over there was no release date. Once SOE did take over there was a release date, not to mention they have a pre-order pack you can buy which doesn't include the real game at all. It only allows you to (this is my favorite part) get Invited to a Open beta. IF there was ever an oxymoron for me then that would be it right there.

imo , people is what really matters , the games are just scenario.
if you are looking for a impressive game , play chess.
mmos are about people.

I must say good point except that that isn't the real 100% reason for any of us. Lets take for example runescape. Runescape is free, cheap and horrid graphics, truly if my friends played runescape would I play runescape? No lol. I have friends that play Silkroad Online, SWG, even WoW and currently now I have not joined them on any of those games.

This is a big common misconception I have been seeing and its starting to irriatate me. MMORPG's aren't just for socializing and we all know it. Why would devolpers put in combat, levels, instances, crafting, economy, etc. if it was just about the people? The orginial makers behind mmo's were geniuses and figuring out these types of games. We play mmos for more then just 1 different reason. the top 3 can be different as theres always more reasons and it is different for everybody. But the most general top 3 are socalizing, self acomplishments(completing a goal), and to play a game(escape the real world).

I'm sorry friend but I gotta say if you play MMOs JUST for the people, then you are lucky indeed as any mmo would satisfy you then.
Something that just kind of hit me as I was reading some posts. Why is it that we keep seeing the same old faces producing "new" mmorpgs?

Let me throw some examples that just come to my head, this is not actually trying to reserach anything.  Darkfall online is being made by a majorty of Ultima Online members. Vanguard: saga of heroes are being devolped by a majorty of old EQ2 devs. Dark age of camelot has some sequel mmo coming out. Btw does someone care to explain the meaning of a sequel MMORPG?

I have rattled my brain and my poor eyes scanning the internet for that "leet" mmo. That one that will satisfy me for ages to come and will worship mercilessly. Yet how can I do this with all the old faces bringing in the same games with diffrent titles. I swear its like the mmo industry has turned into a evil possesed santa clause who gives you a present every year in a different sized box, different wrapping paper, and different weight but in the end its always the same gift..... A Lump of coal.

/end of rant.
Myself is a very hardcore extr3m3 mmo gamer. I love mmos and will easily drop my social life in a matter of seconds to join a instanced group or what not. I dont need lectures on "thats bad for you" either, Im just expressing how much of a gamer I am so that my next point makes better sense.

I have played many mmos and not just for short terms either, I usually grind full level before I bail on a mmo. These mmos include SWG(was my first), Eve Online, Matrix Online, Planetside Online, DDO, WoW, Knight Online, Roma Victor, City of Villans, Auto Assalt, Silkroad Online.

Now threw all those games I played many many diffrent player styles, some I was a tank class, others I was a healer class, I tried all sorts of diffrent things. Something I always did though, was I had to solo at times. It wasn't that I didn't want to group, or no one was online(even though this was partly the case in which got me started on soloing). I was an excellent team player and always would try to listen or lead the groups to victory. But theres alot of good reasons to solo.

For starters all loot is 100% yours when you solo, no worry about sharing or splitting. 100% profit when you go soloing. To continue you didn't have to keep checking to make sure the group is healed, the healer isn't being attacked, basicly less responsibility. Not to mention you truly found out what your made of. When people first told me in swg that a paticular instance(hk) was impossible to solo, I tried, it took about 4 tries until I got it. But I finally soloed the instance, was one of the first to solo it too in the game. I learned alot more about the instance when I did solo it. I also used that loot I had gained and sold it without having to worry about splitting.

When you solo its not just because you don't have any friends on, I solo because its a bigger challenge, bigger reward, and overall more fun. I like to find out just exactly what I can take and can't take, Soloing not only helps you become a richer player, but also a better expiernced player. For example...

I played SWG off and on from when it first came out, but when I first came back to the NGE(New Game Enchanments) I was about 1 month and a half behind everyone else. So for the next week straight I did nothing but solo various instances and "elite" mobs. When I came back out of the wilderness after my week training and began to pvp, I killed about 15 people in 1 night. Diffrent people and that was a feat at the time as you would only see about 5 people overt at a time. The next day I did that HK run(just happened to be that time that someone told me HK was imossible to solo) and everyone in my group died but me and my buddy.

Thats when it hit me, Soloing isn't JUST for the casual gamer. In fact its the ultimate training ground for the hardcore gamers. It has everything a hardcore gamer desires and more. Fame, Money, Power, Respect, etc. So to sum my counter article(seeing as how long it is) I have to disagree with the main article and what alot of the "majoty" is saying here and say that in fact More hardcore gamers should be soloing then casual gamers.

I must say the new layout looks very nice. It matches the pace of mmorpg. Big, large, and in charge :P

Right I'll break this topic down:

The main point of the topic is NDA breaching and people asking other people to breach it (ie by giving out account information), people shouldn't do this as techically it's a legal document they sign and there should be more put in place to prevent NDA breaching. Secondly with closed betas anyone can just wonder up to a forum and say 'I have keys give me your account information' people might as well put up their credit card details while they are at it as it's usally more than likely a scam (as explained in my 3rd post) like I said I can go on and on about NDA's and scamming till i'm blue in the face..

The 'rant' post (the 2nd one) was due to the fact Mr Troll thought it would be 'clever' to post basically 'Your dumb i'm smart' as he 'corrected' me in another topic (witch he didn't) and automatically assumed that this topic was related to another.. Niether of those posts are related to this topic..

So to answer yes this is a rant topic about those people who are out for a 'free meal' so to speak and refuse to wait until the game either is open beta or released, and questioning why people are stupid enough to hand out account details so readly and/or break a legal contract

.....Did you even read my other 3 paragraphs of my post??? Most importantly did you even read the LAST one? Dude get a freakin grip! My last post I was polite and covered multiple things in one post but it seems you for some unfathomable reason only focused on my one paragraph....

Let me put it in one sentence and make it nice and bold since you so arrogantly ignored it the first time.

Yes people do ask something that isn't LEGAL. That is why you repot them! Don't sit here and fiddle with your thumbs, do something about it. If you don't then don't complain! Grow up man because right now it seems you've never even seen your first vote in life yet. If you don't vote then why should you complain about the results?
I hate to say it to the OP but you gotta face the world sometimes my friend. Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you. But if this is a rant, thumbs up for you, if this is a serious discussion on getting people to stop or...whatever your trying to do, im sorry I just don't understand why ya made this post :P. Then seriously, please stop sitting at your crib and stand up, open the door to the world.

No matter what happens in this world someones always gonna do it, If you tell people not to do it they will do it simply because you said not to(adolsecne is the typical group), If you make something hard to obtain people will try and steal it(all age groups but it usually starts in the adolscence group and continues to grow in adult hood). My point im trying to make is this:

I really don't understand the point of this post as you said you won't rant so that cancels out rant but then you complain about something and don't even initate a solveant to the problem.

Heres a suggestion, try reporting those posts, if they don't get deleted then notify a Editor or a Moderator immeadetly. If that fails contact the game directly and notify them that certain individuals are trying to obtain illegal acces and give refrences or links to where its happening at. Im sure if mmorpg.com knows this stuff is happening they will try to keep it, if not ethically right then at least legal.
Isn't that strange. Two Complete opposite mmos(in my opioion) are owning the votes so far. Eve defintly appeals to those hard core and long term benefit type of gamers while wow is for the "casual" gamer and the "mindless" gamer. Eve requires immense thought and major strategy if you wanna be big. Wow requires mindless grinding and grinding. Two complete opposites in my opioion. As for why Eve did make it again just look at the 2 diffrent types of gamers I described. 1 Game does and has been listening to the communty while Another even if they wanted to couldn't listen to the communty 100% as they've grown bigger then they realize.

As for the people complaining about Eve making it into the PvE catagory...seriously go vote or something.. Thats sad that you guys even want to complain because obviously theres a big majorty of people that do believe in or at least care about there game enough to vote for it. Remeber guys these are votes that mmorpg.com doesn't HAVE to put up and yet they do. Yet Ive seen some of you almost go borderline rude with saying that these votes are rigged....Why would a site set up a vote just to have it rigged?

Anyways I love the trash choice as personally I thought so myself. 2006 is pathetic of a year for the mmorpg industry and maybe the industry is just hibernating for the explosive awaking in 2007. At Least I hope so.

For all you SG Fans out there and can't wait for the game to release. Check out there forums at:http://forums.stargateworlds.com/ and start reading up on game ideas. Right now the game is in pre-alpha and the only feedback these guys get is from these forums and irc. So the more ideas you post on the forums, wheather there dumb or not, the better.
