Last night  I solved a murder mystery, reprogrammed robots to attack zombies, got to ring the town bell to get the townspeople to fight a battle, went on an bombing raid, set some items on fire, set a trap to blow up some underground worms and solved a mystery about a womans' long lost brother.

I was playing World of Warcraft., which is not about kill X rats like everyone seems to think it is..

 

What you meant to say was, last night you talked to a bunch of NPC's that triggered a few generic and poorly written storylines. Then sat and looked at your blurry N64 looking level capped character that took you a week to complete? That same character is the exactly the same as everyone elses because you don't get to pick your own stats. Since there's 6 faces to choose from in WoW and 8 million players? There is about 10,000 other people just like you doing the same thing.

The only thing left fot you to do is go attack the same monster over and over again and get better gear.

You know what WoW sounds like? EVERY OTHER MMO THAT CAME BEFORE AND AFTER IT o-o.

Why do people dislike WoW players? They don't understand that WoW isn't better than everything else. It's the same. It just happened to get lucky and hit the jackpot.

The world and theme isn't that interesting either. Why does everything have to be about Trolls and Dwarves and Orcs.. Very generic.

A truly great MMO is one that actually brings new ideas, original storylines, and depth to it. Not, Give us $50 twice a year and we will give you 10 more levels and a new boss. Fun? No.

Not sure why people seem to worship Blizzard, but i've tried most of their games. They are not that great.

Credit needs to be given to real MMO's that are being overlooked because of the zombie players who won't give up on WoW.

I was bored and thinking, what is missing from all of the MMORPG's out there today.

So I made a list.

Immersive Storylines

I think this is a big one. The stories in all MMO's are pretty emotionless. I love playing normal RPG's, there's always a cast of characters, a story and a world you fall in love with. However in most MMO's there is a very loose story, if any.

I think a great addition to MMO's would be high quality stories. Perhaps writers could be hired for continuation. The stories could be on par with Television shows and anime/mangas, or games like Final Fantasy. These stories should be designed to enjoy solo or with a group of people. Perhaps depending on how you play the game, alone or with freinds, the storyline will change through your eyes.

Having a quality and on going storyline would make the game much more exciting.

Cutscenes

An enjoyable part of today's normal RPG's is watching the beautiful in game movies, that add to the emotion and overall immersion into the story. Few MMO's have cutscenes, and those that do usually lack the point.

Advanced AI

Although you have many real people to talk and make freinds with, I think this should be possible with the many NPC's in games too. Why not give every NPC a backstory, and a life of their own. Let them wander the world, let events happen to them. Allow them to grow. Similar to how characters in a single player RPG would.

I feel basically the problem with MMORPG's is there is little depth to them. You create your character. You talk to NPC's. They give you quests. Your character grows a little. Though your never really involved in anything. It becomes more of a graphical chatroom, then a game.

There needs to be more elements from the single player RPG's we all love in the MMORPG's that are still relatively new.

Project RO

Today marks a major event in the history of iRO! Valkyrie is now 100% open. By 100% I mean one hundred percent! Rates are now 100% Exp and 100% Drops.

Even more exciting news is that the main servers received a permanent increase to their rates as well. All "premium servers" now have EXP 125% and Drops 125% for all eternity. I hope some of you get to once again enjoy Ragnarok Online again because of this.

Um... This is a gaming site. Of course people are arguing about games. Games are part of real life :O They do affect it. So argue away.

WoW is popular, not great. American Idol is popular too. Funny.

iRO is now F2P through the Valkyrie server.

Trial accounts are gone. Valkyrie is 100% free with a few restrictions and changes. This also means there are no more bots on the main servers! Yay~

Ragnarok Online isn't free.

RO will always be my favorite MMO :3 There is nothing else like it. The feeling you get while playing it you just can't get anywhere else.
