WoW was my first MMO. A lot of people will say it's easy, and for the most part it is. However, it's a fun game nonetheless.

Currently I'm looking at Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Here's the link if you want to take a look http://www.vanguardsoh.com/ . There would be a lot of things to talk about so I'll just let you discover for yourself. It won't come out until Q1 of 2007 though.

So yeah, I guess I recommend WoW as well.

Ok, big moral dilema now.

I have been doing a lot of research into VSoH over the last few days, and come to the same conclusion I did about 12 months ago. It should be awesome. I've watched a lot of the newer films released, spent time reading the official faq etc etc and if Sigil can deliver what the faq / vids etc are pointing towards, this game will be a contender for 2007's best game release.

However, my problem is still the SOE link. My understanding is VSoH will be part ofthe Station Pass Subscription, or available as a 'stand alone' subscription. (Please do correct this if I am mistaken). Personally, I do not want to subscribe to any game that helps line SOE's pockets (I'm an SWG vet and still avoiding all Sony products like the plague).

I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same position? I am assuming there will at some stage be a free trial of the game available, like with DDo, WoW etc, so I won't actually have to buy the game to try it. Or has anyone heard of an introduce a friend type offer similar to WoW?

Now, if only there was someway to subscribe to this other than through SOE .......

Tough choices ahead:

1) stick to my guns, keep blanking sony and not be part of this (potentially) great game
2) cave in and give more of my hard earned money to SOE

I lose out either way

Honestly I've read a lot of people are in the same boat as you. When the press release that Sigil and SOE were co-publishing it was a big shock. After a few weeks a lot of people calmed down and looked to reason. I'm sure you know that Sigil is in complete control of gameplay in V:SoH, and SOE is just in charge of servers, public relations, and tech support. Sigil will control gameplay, in-game supprt, and everything else.

The important thing to realize is this: If you have a grudge against SOE because of SWG or whatever than that's totally understandable. But by not playing a fantasy MMO like Vanguard than you're kicking Sigil more in the nuts than SOE. I'm convinced that Sigil is a great, friendly company and they shouldn't be hurt by SOE's reputation. And more to the point, you'd be missing out a game that you'll probably enjoy. If there's another MMO that you're looking at that releases around the same time as V:SoH I'd say stick to your guns and go with another game.

If there isn't another game, and V:SoH is it, than you're just letting SOE destroy another game for you.

Definitely an improvement from previous videos.

I don't think I'll be trying it though. Not enough interest, and not enough money

I heard that the EQ2 community was mostly moving to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, but that could just be a rumor. Although, you might want to check that game out.

Anyway, since your dad works at intel get him to get you one of the quad cores that just came out

PM it to me then. I'm curious to see.

A fourth reason is that people like yourself tend to focus on the game overall and expect other people to do the same, dividing people into fans and haters. I don't look at it that way. I am more interested in tallking about certain game features and design decisions, of which this game is simply illustrative. For example, diplomacy. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Why do I have to love or hate the game to talk about that. Why does my loving or hating the game discredit any opinion I have about that? If you, for example, want to talk about an issue like social security, can you only talk about it with people in your own political party? Or could you hear views from another political party or an independent?

I think the reason most people are getting a little miffed with your OP is because you really come off as if Vanguard will be bad because the world is so big.

It sounds more like a flame than a discussion starter.

At any rate, I'm sure Brad and co. have seen what happened with Dark and Light and are making things better for travel without teleporters. The whole team really seems to plan and test everything to get it right. I mean, Beta has been going on for at least a year now  And currently they're doing an entire revamp of Thestra.

If there will be massive changes it will probably happen in betas 4 and 5, and Brad has said in the FAQ that he's open to alternate forms of travel (read: teleporters) if the whole travel thing doesn't work out.

That sucks that people kind of bombarded you as a troll on the OVF but maybe your post came off like the one you wrote here? I dunno when you started as a member but there is a lot of fresh blood now and the forums aren't nearly as "hardcore" as they were back in like March.

More importantly though, are you going to be at least trying the game?

In my opinion, the one's who say that people aren't going to play this game because it's the same old thing are dead wrong.

Sure, a lot of people started their MMO careers with EQ or UO so it might look similar. But I started mine with WoW, and so did thousands of other players.

For many people this will not be the same old thing.

Also, Sigil has stated that they will have at least one PvP server at launch. Ergo, Sigil is not disreguarding PvP.

However, as psyched as I am for the game I'm not going to deny or confirm anything that hasn't been said by the devs. Afterall, nobody has played the finished title yet, so I'm going to save my judgements until release.

What about just a street fighter MMO?

That would kick ass

My favorite character was Ryu, btw.

When you said "Not to look to much like the  next person" I thought of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

It's mostly a PvE game, but there is PvP. You can own a house (or build a ship), a mount (flying or otherwise), and while there are no pet classes I think all classes can earn docile pets.

Here's a video of character customization http://youtube.com/watch?v=AEyIPR4p2r8

I hope you find the game you're looking for

Nope, it's just another raid game, where you'll end up with a second rate character if you don't go on PVE raids.

Brad has said that they are making group and raiding items relatively equal (For instance, let's say there's a piece of a set in a raid dungeon and one in a group dungeon)

I'm not trying to promote the game, or hurt the game, with this poll. So don't take my comment as fanboism . I just wanted to make sure you were getting the information that I have heard from the CEO of Sigil.

Every mmorpg that comes out?

That's a buttload of money, especially since this year looks to have a lot of new mmorpg releases.

BIGGIE! EXTREAMLY EXTREAMLY customable charecters. Im talking face, eyes, nose, ears, skin color, hight, diffrent hair do's, hair color, diverese charecter creation, something that you would WANT to do.

Not to sound preachy (since I just made a thread about Vanguard), but try looking at Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

Here's a clip from the customization you can do.

Oh, and V:SoH will have everything else you mentioned as well.

Hi everyone. I was looking on the FoH boards and saw this poll, and I thought I might see what other boards think.

Here's a link to the poll (I didn't used the forum poll because I can manage this one easier). http://ryun.freepolls.com/cgi-bin/polls/004/poll_center.htm

Please, don't vote more than once. I'm really curious to see what everyone thinks, so I'd like to keep it as accurate as possible ;)

I wish people would start reading the fine print...

I think more specifics on the SOE/SGO issue would definitely hinder all of this negativity.

Alas, the majority of the people don't read the scraps of fine print that have been given to us.
