Erm... yes it does.

Bioshock is coming out in 2 weeks, and Universe at War is looking pretty good as well (November, I think).

AoC is one the games that look good on paper but as a game.. nah it don't work.

So glad you, who has obviously played the game because there's no other reason you would make such a broad assumption, has graced us with this inside information.

Vanguard

AoC

I was worried about AoC turning into the next Vanguard too, but then I went back and looked at some videos. Both videos are months away from release, and are on max settings. The only difference is one (Vanguard) was in a controlled environment (meaning their connection, their machines, etc.) while the other (AoC) was played on gamespot's computer and on the hotel's -- where the interview was held -- very congested internet connection.

Now, tell me, which one has a greater frequency of decreasing frame rates?

I'll give you a hint, it starts with a "V" and ends in "anguard".

I'll also point out that AoC should be processing more data than VG and yet it still performs better. Content that isn't going to be used at release anyway (such as siege battles) really doesn't matter, so they can feel free to patch those in when they're ready. That's only if they don't have it in already.

And, pu-lease people what do you need to see with PvP? It's a PC attacking another PC.

AoC has also been in closed beta since at least September of last year.

1.7 Are you planning a beta?
Yes, the game is already in closed beta, and our developers and the in-house quality assurance team are currently testing it. As we move closer to release, more and more external players will be added to the beta. Announcement on procedures on how to sign up will be posted on the official site. Signing up to the official forums or to the Age of Conan newsletter will be advantageous if you would like to join the beta.

community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi

The key word there is "in-house quality assurance team" which, in my definition, would mean paid beta testers. Which was probably better for AoC at that stage in the game than players testing it anyway.

Another thing to point out is that Funcom was recently given another $30 million dollars to invest into the game. You don't give $30 million to someone if their game is crap, even if you don't know squat about video games.

Last, and probably most important, there are next to zero beta leaks -- negative or otherwise. Something that VG didn't have the luxury of. All of this information points to one thing: The game is fun, it's playable, and it's not the next "Vanguard". That's really all I care about anyway.

Yes it's from SOE, but I'm not about to let issues that happened from different developers keep me from getting into this. SWG at launch was bug filled and those issues in game development will always haunt SWG now. A lot has happened in 4 years that I feel these guys are on the ball and know what they are doing.

Haha, on the ball? You're right, a lot has happened in 4 years. To begin with, they butchered SWG. Did everyone forget the NGE while reading up on this game? Also, should I remind you of their other great debacle, Vanguard. Granted they did not create the game, but rather bought out Sigil, then rushed the game to release in typical SOE fashion making the bugs/lag unbearable. Which resulted in yet another SOE flop at launch.

SOE gave Sigil 6 more months to try and complete the game, not take 6 six away. Microsoft wanted to release the game (on schedule) by summer of '06, and because they could not meet their deadline MS dropped them/Brad McQ went to go find another publisher. SOE bought Sigil and Vanguard maybe 4-6 months after release. Get your facts straight please. Vanguard was Sigil's fault.

Also, SWG happened how many years ago? And didn't lucas arts have a large say in the decision as well? I think it's time to move on an accept the possibility that SOE might do different this time around. Who knows, you could be missing out on your next favorite MMO.

Before I cry BS on your statement, are you talking about doing the game justice on DX10, or overall?

I think that might have been an old article. There are only 5 directional attacks currently in the game.

They let a whole bunch of people from the media play the game previous to E3. Sorry Sickpup, but they have let people play it. They just didn't during E3, but the way E3 is now, MOST games didn't have playable demos.

FYI I updated my initial post with the higher-rez Gamespot footage direct link. It's not the best quality, but it's a great demonstration. I cant see how anyone (besides the few forum trolls we have here,) cant be impressed by what we see here.

I read the gamespy, ign, gamespot hands on.Without getting into the outcome, they were basically all very controlled 1-4 player ,under level 60,pve features that they were allowed access to.Has there been any 1v1 or 2v2 pvp previewed by any media source? If so can you hook us up with a link please?

It's not from a media source, but here's a video showing some PvPing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEndk3fElu4

That clip shows a Beta build nearly a year old, the directional attack rose is different now.

I would just be patient and wait for it to come. It not like its not going to be in the game! People these days are all selfish its the me, me, me, I want, I want, I want generation....

Hah, true but it still shows PvP

What controversy?

One of the devs said that it was just censored because while AoC will be rated mature (and uncensored), the AoC website is not.

Really not a big deal.

 *Edit*

nevermind though you were talking about something else.

I'd definitely play one. One of my all time favorite games with Starsiege back in like 1999. That would be an awesome premise for an mmo I think.

Aelfin, that's what I was referring to when I said things might have changed, not the zoning.

To be fair, the FAQ hasn't been updated since last year so a few things could have changed since then.

I used to be a member of the Vanguard community and I'm so happy I'm not anymore. The game is good for a certain group of people but it's just not for me.

There's also far less drama in my life not being apart of Vanguard.

I played WoW, Vanguard, and LoTRO (although I'll admit the last two I only played till about level 20) and I still want  a fantasy MMO. I'm sure a lot of other people do too.

I didn't get bored of the last two games because they were fantasy, I got bored of them because it was basically just the same thing over again. I'm hoping AoC will change that

Sounds a lot like AoC.

I'm not saying that they're stealing from Funcom, or anything, because both systems sound really fun

I remember reading all the lore and short stories on Sigil's first website. Thanks for posting this.

Let's put it this way: If you have anything less than a dual core processor, a 7600GS/x1650Pro and 2GB of RAM vanguard will run like crap, while LoTRO will play smoothly on pretty much the highest settings.

Also, I enjoyed LoTRO much more than Vanguard but I still became bored of it. Here's to AoC.
