Depends on your private server when you're talking about bots. Some don't care, the good ones do. As far as retail bots. The last time I bothered trying to XP on retail, 1 guy was controlling 5 teams in the lower rooms of Forge of Gods. Most of his toons had key mashing names like edgferf, wetrer, gghswer, and had to be in the 70's gg retail |
|
That's a matter of perspective. I think they're better because there's a live person behind most toons, unlike retail where one person might be controlling up to 40-50 characters at the same time. Most of the quelity servers won't even allow you to autofollow. |

lol it's people like you that created the laws and probably people like you that get burned by them in the end. At least they had the sense to call them copyright violations and not stealing. If it was stealing, all the old laws on theft would apply, so please don't compare and act like you know something. |
|
Because they are on a witch hunt to shut down all private servers. Once that's over we'll see if they pull in subscribers. If not they'll be back to ignoring botters to make the #'s look good. Just my 2 cents. |

I'm not sure but in debate class, people like that generally failed. Think it has a lot to do with being insecure, close minded, and generally having no interest in anyones opinon but their own. @ayuchan, just lol at the record industry, shame the same will happen with the game industry. http://www.eff.org/share/petition/ |

Jukan you need to relax a bit. Insulting people to make your point generally means you don't have one.
Your auto comparison fails when you talk about "selling" it. Many private servers are open for fun, when they start charging and making profits off of NCsofts work then I agree, there should be fines to pay and imo it should be a civil case, not criminal. The problem, for me, is NC denying consumers the right to make a server like that in the first place. They cleary do so in their EULA, but the EULA is not law, and they don't always enforce all parts of their EULA (account sharing is a good example) so I hope the courts don't back them. There's also a lot of speculation as to exactly what the charges are. You can find some updated news: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11786 [UPDATE: Gamasutra had a chance to speak to Chris Thompson, the Austin-based FBI agent assigned to the case. Thompson noted that the case "...is an ongoing investigation", adding: "The charges for something like this are not really public." We really don't know what the charges are, it could be they shut only l2x down for stealing and distributing the server files and nothing else. Don't you find it odd that they only went after one service? |

good riddence to private servers?
NC efforts to stop it will be about as effective as media efforts to stop music piracy. In the meanwhile NC will learn nothing and the retail servers will continue to suck. Don't compare cars to software btw. But if you want too, a company like this wants to build a set of roads and build a car, you can build your own roads and your own car and long as you don't copy anything they did or impact their profits in any way. You can't ride their car on your roads btw, nor can you ride your car on their roads, or you end up in jail. You follow? ... maybe? imo if the auto/transportation industry was offered the same rights software companies want, your ferrari would have never been built and this country would still be stuck in the 1800's. |

Sounds to me like you're saying Microsoft has the right to do whatever since they developed Windows, like block Firefox and force you to use IE? @naldric, the client is free. What you pay for and need a CD key for is their service (ie running servers, customer support, and profits from that). You can dl the client to you computer, look at the files, play the music etc etc and not pay NCsoft a dime, and if you read their copyright policy, they state quite clearly you can do whatever unless you charge a fee for it. The server files themselves are not a software package, are not sold and have no monitary value. You can quote EULA if you want, but that's not law and even NCsoft reps have said it's more of a guide to help them provide better service, and not all EULA and ROC clauses are enforced or equally enforced. I'm not argruing that private servers are "right", but I am concered over the controls the companies are given over people modifying and reverse engineering current products and the laws created as companies are trying boost their profits. Much of the software industry was built on copying and immitation with companies allowing or forced to allow continued development and creativity. To add, if NCsoft wasn't so draconian, rather creative and tried to emulate the atmosphere on private servers with a different variety of servers, this woudln't be an issue right now. |

I'll have a good laugh when the courts give these greedy little
game companies too many rights and Microsoft slaps all their asses down
allowing only BillGates sanctioned games to run on their OS. Hi,
NCsoft, want to write your own OS too?!
NC doesn't sell the game, btw. The client is free and the server had no monitary value + it's dated and no longer used or supported by them. The subscriptions pay for the service they provide on their servers, which has completely sucked since they opened, hence the success of privates. If this goes to the courts, which I hope it does, it should be unique and interesting. Cant wait to see some clueless judge cripple the software industry some more. |

Lineage 2: FBI and NCsoft Stop Illegal Servers
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/20/06 3:03:37 PM
Heh dream on. This site runs ads for things NCsoft considers "illegal" btw. The title of this column should be, "FBI shuts down L2Extreme operation. Investigation ongoing." They didn't stop much. |

If you want to consider people running 5-9 accounts (bots) to level 1 toon an improvment to the game, then great. Also love the fanbois with their witty "don't be angry" comments. Recently when they did a mass ban, pretty much all the servers went from "Heavy" to "Light" status in prime time. Do you think they would have added a 10th server if all the others were so unpopulated? I don't quite understand why their latest bans were more brutal on the bots. Perhaps they figured out people are so absorbed in the game and the RMT business is so damn good, they will all probably open up all new accounts and NCsoft can add to their 14 million customer total. Online Sensation? If you love china gold farmers, play L2. If you love botting and botters, play L2. If you love killing the same stupid AI mobs 50,000 mobs to level, play L2. If you love one of the most tedious craft systems ever, play L2. If you love crappy sieges, packed with bugs and client crashes, play L2. If you love horrible PvP with some classes as gods, others worthless, play L2. Go online sensation. |

Hah. It's the end of private servers, the same way all the bot programs saw an end. Lol. You've got a better chance of NCsoft not spinning their sub numbers then private servers going down.

ahhhhhhh NC, they finallly kicking rats out of the sinking ship! Will it be enough to save it? hmmmm
For anyone wanting to try L2, I recommend you play the free trail, maybe pay them 1 month if you're feeling charitable and then run run far far away. It won't get better. |

I got a feeling this one day reviewer was telling us Auto Assualt was a great game. 8.5 lol
Year it was a great game for a couple of days, then woops, no high end content. Archlord is all about the high end content, 1 day reviewers don't waste your breath, the game needs to be "simplified" so that mass scale wars and sieges at the high end won't bring average systems to their knees (ie Lineage 2). The begining part of the game is all about learning the steps, building your clan, and building up wealth + power. Hoping to see some real reviews at the end of open beta. |

So was it me or did everyone agree Archlord was shit?
General Discussion « ArchLord 9/04/06 8:15:39 PM
Haha, well ya if you need to be the "correct" sex for whatever type of activities you're interested in then this game isn't for you. For those interested in PvP, building guilds, sieges, server domination and doing all types of evil and cruel things to people you dislike then this might be the game for you. P.S. Please don't review any more games after 5 minutes of play. |

Is L2 dead? or does it have more tricks to come?
Giran (General) « Lineage II 9/03/06 9:28:14 PM
You can try it. The game definatley has some mild entertainment value. If you want to stay for the long haul and actually want to compete at the high end, I suggest you get yourself multiple accounts, or access to a buffer and find one of the many bot programs. Playing L2 legit is almost an insult atm and the top end people that got there botting/ebaying/exploiting will ruin your game experience once you start getting into it. |
