Haven't had any luck through the normal means of troubleshooting this problem, so I figured I'd try the host of MMORPG.com know-it-alls =P

I just bought the game for PC, getting a FFXI-4001 error often with a disconnect. Everything I've seen so far leads me to believe it's a compatibility issue with my Linksys router and most suggest to set static IPs and Portforwarding. Anyone else have similar issues and how did you resolve it?

Hey, as the title suggests, I'm looking into playing FFXI for the first time, and wanted to check on server populations. I've been burned the last few games I've tried because the server pops were so bad that grouping was a rarity.

How easy is it to find groups, what is the community like, and what jobs are usually in demand?

Could anyone please describe the Server Pops? Thinking about resubbing...I'm bored, but I don't want to be bored while I'm LFG. Any estimates on numbers and how easy it is to find a group?

Im not going to lie to you, server populations are really low. It is hard to find groups to do dungeons unless you are playing with people you know.

But on the bright side, server mergers are going to happen soon. A dev said they would merge servers about 1 week after GU2. And GU2 came out Thursday, 8/16.

Gross. Sucks they let this game make it's rounds around the toilet bowl. How many servers are they consilidating to? What do you think would it take to make the game playable?

I absolutely hate soloing, so I won't play a game with terrible sub numbers.

Recruiting has become more lax as we are nearing our initial goals for class recruitment. We have a strong base of classes that will support the guild. From here on out we will be specifically recruiting friendly, knowledgeable, mature players until we feel we have reached our critical mass.

If you feel like you fit these qualifications and are looking for a warm, welcoming community in which you may play. If you are interested in PvE raiding as well as organized PvP, please visit our website and apply on our forums:

Imo Vanguard has some weird proportions, LOTRO does far better in this department than Vanguard. There are some really ugly looking proportions. So far I have only found 3 races that look ok, out of all the races.

Examples of terrible looking races in Vanguard:

Kurashasa: The heads are just plain wrong. Looks quite good from the side, but from the front it is terrible.
Vulmane: Impossible to get the chest to look ok. This also applies to most races, sadly

Only ones I have found good so far are:

Orc
Goblin
Lesser Giant
The Elf's look quite good to, but they look terrible in caster gear, and their body proportions look weird no matter what you do with the sliders.

A example of how wrong it can go in Vanguard:

Vanguard screenshots.

In the middle of nowhere and it puts LOTRO to shame.

Another that just looks sick.

Yeah.....I can fly up to the top of that mountain in the background. :P
Those two screenshots where beyond terrible If you wanna promote Vanguards graphics post some good screenshots next time.

Ahem....

The Player is in control of the character proportions. If they look odd, it is because YOU put the sliders in an odd combination.

PS: Too bad the gameplay of LoTRO is lacking.

And there is also the lesser known LFM function.

/lfm will bring up a window in which you can specify classes, level range, and a comment (description) so that players who are LFG can find your group.

Website has changed.

You have less control, and most point and click interfaces have terrible pathing and directional issues.

Visiting the VG characters site, it's easy to see there are well over 300,000 characters.  I "guess" the average # of characters is 3 each.  That makes 100,000 subscribers.  And yes, I mean subscribers; the free 10-day trial is LONG gone.  Nevermind the number of "buddy key beggars" here.  For a game that some libel, I"ve never seen so many people begging to play it.

Every day in VG, I see areas get busier and busier.  Now when I visit the crafting halls I see more than a dozen players in just one building!  On the server select screen, several servers report "high" population.  Form your own opinion on what constitutes "high populatoin" on a VG game server.  Consider how huge the game world is.  It is rare when I find myself alone in the wilderness.  Even in remote areas, I pass by other players frequently.

Yes I predict VG will well surpass the 500k mark.  Nice work Sigil!

I'm not sure how correct you are about sub numbers, but I will say that my server, the varking team pvp server gets busier every day. In the crafting area in Hathor Zhi at about 7 pm pacific last night which would be considered prime time, there were over 30 people. Over 30 people crammed into this little crafting area, it was sooo laggy lol I love being a dark elf I must say.

Die Shadow scum.

Website is back up with only minor forum rollback =P

I'd kill myself if I had 6-8 FPS on average.

Glad you like it though =)

LoL, Well I know a few members who got the Collector's editions, and I can't imagine them using 10 keys. I'll let them know you are desperate, but that wouldn't garuntee you a spot in the guild =P

Once our website is back up and running you might have a better chance if you posted on our forums.

Website currently down for hardware upgrades. Updated available spot's list.
I don't believe any conspiracy theory unless there is a good solid "Loose Change" YouTub.com documentary about it.

I only played a little bit of EQ 2 so I can't give a detailed comparison, but I can listed a few things outright that surpass EQ 2 as a MMORPG.
- A huge open and zoneless world.
- An interactive crafting system unlike any other MMORPG.
- You can use diplomacy to advance yourself, and the act of diplomacy itself is a skill based card game.
- Player/Guild housing.
- Boatmaking and customization.
- A more interactive combat system of reactions and sympathetic powers.
- A more advanced character creation system.

The PvP free for all server is also well populated.
Since I have no interest at all in leveling, does anyone have a clue about how long it will take to max-level? Then I might feel the game is owning. But I've not had the energy to go all the way in any one of theese games so far.

You sure you like RPGs? o.O

The only thing I will contest with the OP is that...I have 2-3 hours a night to play (I don't get home until 5:00, I have to make dinner, take care of things and get in bed by 9:30 at the latest) ...and I feel like I make a significant dent in my XP bar or accomplish enough quests to make me feel satisfied.

Alot of nights 2-3 hours is a good enough block to run a dungeon, which can result in 1/4 - 1/2 a level or more around level 15.
