no matter what the form of it is Perma deth is not what I would call an enjoyable gameplay mechanic. Perma death would limit sub numbers and be financial poison for a mmo to implement. Having to restart from square one (even with some sort of boost up and fast skill gain) would get just as tiresome as re-rolling a ton of alts. I just don't see the appeal.

Finally all mmo's do have perma death - it is called the character delete button.

the "next Wow" will probably be a facebook mmo actually

Britannia in UO. You could go into every building and it was a very busy hub with lots and lots of character interaction. I also quite liked Moonglow as well.

Visually Altdorf in WAR is very nice - but it lacks the player interaction (even npc interaction) to make it a truly great city. Too much just make it big for bigs sake (like cities in wow)

Bree in LOTRO us another good example (tho not the prettiest place like a few mentioned above RIvendale looks much nicer)

A third realm wouldn't help War. That would be like building an addition onto a burning house. I don't think they have the resources to create a third realm now and I will be highly surprised if there is a payed XPac for war....

Trial accounts can post in the EVE New Citizens Q&A forum.

Changing the font size is limited. You can adjust the font spacing a bit, and change the font size for the right click menues. You can also change the font size for each chat channel individually with the control on their windows.

You can get EVE to use two monitors if you set up for graphics drivers to use "span mode" that turns your two monitors into one big virtual monitor as far as programs are concerned. You ship will be stuck in the middle (split between the screens) but you can drag the controls around.

Thanks for the replies guys :D

That stinks that the uo windows are constrained to the main game window :(

I went ahead and subbed - been having fun with it.

Since (IIRC) you cant post on the official boards with a trial account I thought i would ask some things here.

Can you change the font size in the UI- Its a wee bit small for me...

I use 2 monitors and would like the ability to move some windows to my second monitor is this possible (I didn't see anything regarding 2 monitor support in the options)

Thanks!

WTB Mechwarrior PVP MMO

Would also like to see Shadowrun as an MMO someday...

Warhammer 40 k
The Secret World
World of Darkness
Dust 514
Copernicus
Jumpgate Evolution
Eve Online
Star Wars TOR

And for non mmo games Mechwarrior

I just started playing. I spent a few days reading the eve forums before taking the plunge. My first agent mission bugged :P I needed to kill 2 ships but only 1 spawned. I was kind of poking around looking for it when I get a PM from a GM (Horse) that asked me what I thought about the game. Ive been playing mmos since UO and have never had that happen before!

Horse fixed my mission and asked me if I needed help with anything. (I didnt) Told him thanks but I was ok....

The most important thing to do is the tutorial mission. they will teach you what you need to know to play the game. Im presently running the combat line and having a good time. I got my second ship and some rail guns and am making good headway through the line.

Game has a great community - very very helpful.
I'm probably going to sub unless something happens in the trial that sours me on the game. The complexity is a nice change of pace. The nice thing is you dont have to go the complex route - you can just play the game however you want to play.

I haven't joined a corp yet I'm going to lone wolf it for a while I think...

If this is real i am seriously disappointed.  Only 1 or 2 planets?  I don't care how big the planets are (though 20 something zones seems large) I'd rather see a series of planets at release.

I posted this back in Feb. http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/3408452#3408452 THo it was in a BLizzard and Warhammer 40k thread....

I don't know what to think yet apart from the fact that 40K rocks.

/waits for E3

Sorry, i'l edit my post to mention your old thread.
Anyone know when E3 is?

hehe no worries Threads get buried quickly here

E3 is June 15 - 17

I wouldnt

I am between games now and am not playing it. So if it was the only mmo left I still wouldnt be playing it...

Wow is like the chick you can drunk dial at 3am for a quick hookup.

I'm kind of worried about faction balance. As soon as one side is shown to be more powerful all of the FOTMers will be flocking to that side...

planescape would have made the best D&D MMO setting.

The improvements mentioned as ‘coming’ are things that have been requested or demanded to be addressed for one and a half years now.

Client and server stability are a must. It’s almost patronizing to list that as an addition to any game. I play AoC and anytime people list ‘stability’ as an ‘improvement’ I cringe. It should be a gol’damn standard!

But, for all its neat ideas and potential (which I think WAR has/had) it falls way way way short of being worth $15 a month. Other then large scale PvP encounters, which by the reviewers own accounts are viewed as counterproductive, the game is essentially as shallow and empty as a Cryptic game.

Having the ‘most fun’ PvP would be something to boast, if players could log on and experience it 24/7 (outside of the freebie area). But it’s not the case. WAR forces a mind-numbingly long wait-and-see type experience in RvR and players just don’t participate. Or, you have to be on at specific times. Further, it ostracizes casual players by not regulating “pre-mades” where the chance for random scenario groups to have a chance at winning (or having fun. Or not being farmed for RP) is zero. Being able to enjoy the core of the game is a gamble, and I don’t want to waste $15 a month HOPING I’m on at the right time, w/ the right people.

There’s just too many issues w/ WAR, and frankly the “band-aid” development that the game has gone through over the last 1.5 years shows in their patch notes and their populations (another factor that contributes to being able to have fun).

I agree with just about everything you said here.
I did actually enjoy a lot o the game but in the end the negatives couldnt hold my sub any longer.....

I quit playing (as did all of my guild) before the first year was up :(
The gear grind in this game is horrible and gets worse with each update (scenario weapons......)
T4 rvr is boring - trading BOs and keep back and forth to finally unlock horribly laggy city content...

And the pve....ugh lots of frustrating bugs in encounters.....

I will just bide my time and wait for the warhammer 40k mmo for my warhammer fix

"The first is that the game is designed to be solo-friendly"

Hahahaha. Great, ANOTHER fucking WoW clone. This game will be another mediocre MMo, just like AoC or any other MMoRPG released in the last few years. Hard to believe these guys are the people who made Anarchy Online.

Sorry but not everyone believes in forced grouping. Players are allowed to solo, the only grouping and raiding should be at the end game. Also WOW is not solo friendly and has plenty of group quests. Do you even know what you are typing?

I agree. Heck in UO your skill was often rated on what you could do Solo...

This game wasnt even on my radar really but after the latest press releases I decided to take a look into it and so far it seems like something I will try and could enjoy.

Wow is way to easy to hit max level (Lotro, COX, EQ2, Warhammer are just as easy)

Making a 7x GM in UO... now that was tough...

Having a pet dragon that is 5x gm in UO was really rough/ took a long time....

By inflicting it on others :D

I kind of miss UO corpse runs

Honestly, Bioware has some of the best games I've ever played. My favorite is STILL the Knights of the Old Republic series and its been 10 years.

BUT these guys are starting to aggravate the crap out of me. They give all kinds of interviews, and this one even talked about how in depth they've gotten, only they aren't actually telling us much at all. They give some of the worst interviews I've ever seen from a game developer.

IM really tired of hearing "We've got story" Id like some real mechanics information....

In discussing any F2P title, it is important to ask the developers about their plans for the game’s item mall. The development philosophy where this is concerned for Black Prophecy players to be able to earn in-game almost everything that is available in the items shop with the exception being aesthetic items.

If this is truly the case, then maybe it won't destroy PvP. We'll see I guess.

In the F2P games i have tired this is also on surface true but in reality not so much.
Typically you can earn items/levels but grinding for them for free can take huge chunks of time. The higher your level the longer the grind....

I will still give it a shot... might be a fun time killer game
