WoW is rap. That bad club rap that does nothing new, nothing for itself, but is cashing in on its mainstreamness. AoC is like that new.... Rap/singing stuff that is pretty much the same crap, but with slightly more thought put into it. And Darkfall is rock and roll revived :P |

I don't understand this sort of sick idea you people have in your heads. What the hell is the point of Elder Scrolls Online? The entire point of the Elderscrolls games it that its a single player game where YOUR character makes the difference. You can steal whatever, kill whoever, do whatever. If they made this an MMO those rules would totally change! They'd NEVER get away with that online. The only thing that would keep it Elderscrolls would be the setting and I suppose skill based leveling, which is already in Darkfall! Besides, combat in Darkfall is more complex and rewarding than Oblivion if they're following the Mount&Blade style (which the devs have said they are.
Aside from that Elderscrolls is going downhill. Since Morrowind the game has been simplified down for the special ed masses. Skills shrank and merged, the game leveled up the monsters around you so that you'd never be in danger, they made some characters immortal, gave you a fancy compass that tells you absolutely everything about everything... I have a feeling if they made an MMO it'd possibly be more easy than WoW. Most Elderscrolls fans (those who played Morrowind and earlier) were upset over the last edition of the game, and it became stale after a few months. Hopefully they go back to the Morrowind template, but I doubt it. |

Not even close. The game is M rated, making it harder to buy. The graphics are 100000x better, making it harder to run. Its slightly more difficult, which is what turns off gamers. (Though, its still so easy a retarded monkey could do well in it). And as of now, its buggy and laggy as all hell. The only things that could kill WoW are bored (don't know why this hasn't happened yet) or if someone managed to make an even EASIER game than WoW. Maybe Pong the MMO? |

I dreamed of Middle Earth Online once, back when it was just one demo video and a few music clips. Then it became LotRO, and changed from sandbox to WoW, and I died a little inside.. :(
As for Darkfall... I try not to think about it cause who knows when its coming out. But, I have daydreamed of pirating... I've even thought of good ways to get my first attack ship. |

Age of Conan: AoC Community Grows to 500,000
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/07/08 11:35:12 PM
I wonder how long people realize this isn't the game they read about years ago. Since beta started, and all the WoW kiddies flooded in complaining about how hard it was, they've taken a very simple and easy game, made it even simpler. Nerfing the combat and all that. A huge amount of features are missing from beta, and the game has been pushed back twice. Isn't looking too good. |

It's sort of simple when you think about it. WoW was a huge success. Why? Because its so easy. There's no risk vs reward. It's just reward and instant gratification. Any semblance of a feature that could have caused stress was simplified and removed. So, since then, every MMO that's come out has been simple and easy to compete with WoW's massive numbers that keep getting filled with more and more noobs that don't want challenge. Those people feel that you should never have to group, and should be able to solo most of an MMO. The thing that WoW did right, is that all MMOs are addictive by nature. However, most MMOs have a challenge factor and a learning curve that may turn people away. WoW did not. WoW had that addictive gameplay that drew in thousands of noobs, and they said to themselves "This is awesome" because it was so easy to get into. Most of them don't even know there's an MMO genre, or other, better games out there, because they never went out to try them. They just got sucked in by WoW's level of ease, and its that that other companies are trying to duplicate. |

This game runs absolutely perfect for me, max settings, all graphics up full, biggest resolution on a 7950 with 1.5 gigs of RAM. |

"I know they have been done before but by the previews it's nothing like Lineage 2 or DAOC style."
Sorry, just to comment. It is almost exactly like DAoC. And I think the combat system is overhyped, but we'll see. |

I am so pissed that they are merging Florendyl

At least they gave you a reason of why it isn't being merged. And its a viable reason too. |

how many people are mad that EQ has maps now?
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 7/11/07 8:04:19 PM
I never played EQ, but I played its twin brother Dark Age of Camelot, and I was pissed when they released maps. Us classic MMOers are a dying breed. :( |

Originally posted by BlackWatch Three reasons for that actually.
First reason is that its human nature that upset people will complain more than happy people. Second reason is that there was WAY too much hype for the game, and when it got pushed to be released early by SOE, many were dissapointed that it didn't live up to their expectations. Hell, even if it had had an extra year it wouldn't have lived up to expectations, the hype was just too big. All those broken hearted gamers tore Vanguard a new one right out of the starting gate. Third reason is because its the bandwagon game to hate right now. Its better if you admit it. In my experience most of the people complaining about Vanguard haven't even played it or given it a chance, they just hop on the hate bandwagon.
Truths? I had a bad launch. Not the worst launch in history(cough cough SWG and WWII Online) but a pretty bad launch for this day and age. It had performance issues, hundreds of bugs, CTD issues abroad. But, these are truths too. Within the first month, hundreds of these bugs, were squashed. Performance was increased substatially every patch. Just last week a huge CTD patch went in that fixed almost all of the performance/CTD issues people were complaining about. Sigil and SOE have been consistantly patching and fixing this game since day one, and even adding new content. I have fun in Vanguard, its not for everyone, but its better than those WoW clones. The OP was not full of shit, all he said was that the game wasn't as bad as everyone said it was, and he was having fun. No reason to laugh at him. That's such a huge problem is that damn hate bandwagon.
Oh and one more thing. All those bugs people complain about, especially those who haven't played the game? I've been playing since launch and in the first month I ran into about 5 bugs. After the first month, none. |

What do you MMORPG players think of LOTRO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/30/07 11:05:20 PM
Originally posted by retrospecticIt's sad isn't it? The game was originally called Middle Earth Online. It was a sandbox game, it had an interesting dark/light system kind of like KotOR, and the whole premise was "Live in Middle Earth." However, after an information blackout in 03-04, the next news announcement was that Turbine won the rights to the game from Vivendi. Turbine had always been developing, but felt they were being held back by Tolkien Enterprises. After that, everything changed in a VERY short amount of time. Corruption system was scrapped, sandbox was scrapped, Middle Earth was sort of dumbed/watered down significantly. The name changed to Lord of the Rings online to reflect the new direction and it became a linear, hold your hand, quest driven game.
Now, I enjoyed LotRO for what its worth. It was too much like WoW for my taste, but its a good game. I just felt they didn't do justice to Middle Earth by forcing you to follow these paths made of fake hills and making sure you were guided along every step of the way. Now, Middle Earth Online, a sandbox game like SWG, Vanguard, and AC1 would have been amazing. Unfortunately for most of the old MMOers, WoW was a success. |

Still not sure why some many trash vg's release...didn't anyone play WOW's release
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/28/07 12:03:05 PM
Just for clarification, they closed down the old BETA forums. They always had tech help and a few other boards open. The only thing they did recently (and that was 2 or 3 months ago) was add a general forum. The forums have always been there, they just got slightly expanded. |

As for the forums, it was a specific development decision to foster some sort of community, I'm not really sure, I didn't like the decision, but the point is it that it was a concious one. They had forums and specifically closed them down. As for games without main forums, the extremely successful Dark Age of Camelot (EQ's old rival, and to this day, the game with the best PvP system) still does not have forums, and it's over 6 years old... so guess what? Says nothing! |
