After reading the new FAQ and all the following along I did with Perpetual, it seems to me we are getting Cryptics game with Perpetuals artwork. AND their story line...ish.

Lol PE's story line?  This story line was written by Gene Roddenberry  years ago my friend.

In other words, they're making the game exactly as PE was going to. In other words, /fail incoming.

If you were to do some investigating you would know that isn't true He who sees the glass half empty.

I didnt say I was down on the idea. Just that I would have liked playing in the middle of the next gen era. Listening to the old Hailing Frequencies radio shows, the PE crew had hinted at doghnut (how the hell do you spell doughnut?) shaped saucer sections and the fact that it takes place in the early 25th century things like that make me think its PEs artwork and SOMEWHAT story. It looks to me however that they are gonna make Klingons bad guys again to give us all a faction choice. Thats how I see it but I do not see the glass as half empty, Im gonna play it till it becomes SWG.

Well since Gene is dead and has better things to do, what I mean is the fact that the whole game takes place in the 25th century years after the next gen era. I think they are trying to avoid Genes Story altogether except for the names places and things from it. I would have rather played in the middle of the next gen era myself but lets just see what happens.

I can't wait for it, as long as its a fun game i don't care about graphics.  Actually kinda tired of all these games trying to do realistic graphics, the world looks good but the movements end up looking too robotic and stupid, if they can do realism and make them not look stupid jumping and just moving around in general i would be more for it.

But to each their own, i just want it to be fun =)

I agree, also adding Content, Content, Content!

As for console MMO's...

I played Everquest online adventures on PS2 which was ALL open world with a few optional instances. Often there were 80-120 people in Freeport all gathered together, and 600-800+ people server wide. I didnt notice any lag/problems. So why can't this be done for STO?

Keep in mind this was only the Playstation 2. Newer consoles have better capabilities.

Do they mean lots of ZONES? Im fine with zones and instances myself. I never played an MMO on a console but to me it just opens the world of Star Trek up to alot more people.

I'm not expecting a lot, to be honest. Going to show us a demo of gameplay on Aug 10, just a few months after getting the IP? City of Heroes didn't have a lot of depth to it, and if it's already at the stage where they can show us actual gameplay...

I have a nasty feeling that they're under the gun to have this thing released in time for the coming movie. And we know how well that always works out (points at the SWG Veterans forum).

I read that they cant really use code from the other team in a Hailing Frequencies interview with some other dev type people BUT I wonder if thats true? Was Champs Online the BASE for Marvel Online? Was Cryptic already working on a sci-fi game and just switched it? Then again we have all heard rumors of Cryptic getting STO since Perpetual was publicly having trouble. Ill bet they have been working on it alot longer than we might think. Still I share your trepidation.

i hope cryptic can deliver, but it seems like the success rate for MMORPGS is fairly low.   i wish cryptic luck.

even devs and studios with established records can turn out the occassional bad game.

Which mmo Have they not been successful with ?? City of heroes was Very successful it just died down (but allot of people still play it) now but at release it was game of the year

i have high hopes for their up coming mmo's CO for one will be amazing if they do what they have promised and with COH already under their belt all they can possible do is improve it.

STO well thats along way away yet so time will tell.

I think what Hadrian means by successful is, good MMORPGS in his opinion. If thats true, I agree with him there aren't many GOOD mmorpgs. But, good is subjective of course. Just for example, I LOVE lotro, and absolutely HATE CoX and there are too many CoXs out there and VERY few lotro. Having this in mind for myself and all my friends who play MMOs the success rate is very low and the chances aren't great. But as Hadrian says, I wish them luck.

PS

It is an entirely DIFFERENT dev team for STO and CoX right? Because personally I dont want anyone who so much as got coffee for the the CoX team anywhere near STO.

/sarcasm

Just having the website up they are already better than Perpetual was though.

Only Cryptic game Ive ever played was CoX, and it sucked bad IMO. I just hope they come up with a better quest system than that.

I do believe they will do a good job though. (Mainly because its my only hope for a good Sci-fi MMO so I have no choice but to believe)

Just dont suck is all I ask

Gotta say I want SOME instances. But most of all I want at least one server to be VERY strictly RP, and Guild run Starships

By all means, get more money in any ethical way you can, but dont gut and ruin the game and alienate your playerbase to do so. Smedley is an short-sighted twit for the way he is handling the company.

/Agreed.

We need something to keep people playing.

Heres an idea: Make content that will make people want to return to the game! Fire Smedley and his Quest for More Money, hire someone that actually cares about the game and wants to see it flourish. Do some events, aside from the rehashed holiday ones. Bring back more of the gods, and give them fun events... not  like this crap they have now. What is that, 3D Ghosts and Goblins? xD

Me, I want Erolissi, and I want them to do something as big as they are doing for the plague god/SoH...

The quest SHOULD be for more money. The way you get that is with a better product than others have. FIRE Smed yes, but never forget the only way we get great MMORPGs or Games in general is because it makes money. But then Im a capitalist pig.

Welcome to the club dude.

No, thats where they came from along with most of the ideas for the NGE. The Devs went dumpster diving over at WoW :)

Computer games have:

1. Replaced the need to acquire and paint miniatures, again saves time and $$. Bad idea to give this up if you'e a career artist.

2. Connected you with friends online who are "ready-to-play" meaning no more excuses from your RL pals.

3. Taught you a job skill you might need as a desk jockey. Consider a career as a MMO creator.

Best revenge is showing them tangible proof it all wasn't a waste of time, least of which was theirs to waste in the first place.

If you built little Dioramas of soldiers or built model airplanes you wouldnt get all that grief. TO ME, building up a little charater in a computer game isnt much different. Just takes a different skill, (Being good at video games OR being good with your hands). I dunno I think different strokes for different folks, although I prefer other thing versus MMOs, the MMOs are actually cheaper
