Funny - I was just thinking the same thing.  I have been without a MMO for a while, and the stuff that people have been complaining about are actually the things that my husband, my best friend and I have been looking for!  Highly detailed graphics?  Instances so there are no fights or waiting for spawns and mobs, and the potential for peronal housing?  Zones, so we can get more detailed areas?   All of that, plus an adult game with an adult community and mature content and a complex battle system!

We are buying this game tonight!!!

Check out this Wired News blog that a friend forwarded to me.  I just think all of this gamer vs non-gamer girl stuff is hilarious.  I don't understand why anyone cares.

Female Gamers Have More Sex

According to a survey conducted by Gametart, a game rental service in the UK, chicks who game get more lovin' than those who don't. Out of a sample of 200 ladies (or should that be "laid-ees"?), the ones who gamed got, erm, fragged 1.1 more times a week than those who didn't.

So what I'm saying is you might want to give your honey a DS for Valentine's Day. Mmm hmm. Read on for the rest of the oh-so-scientific study.

Gamers Have Sex More Often!

It’s official – women who play video games have sex more often! Gametart, the UK’s largest online games rental company, carried out the survey throughout January to see how the recent influx of the likes of Pink PSPs and DS Lites would affect gamers’ sex lives across the country.

The results were surprising.

Of our sample of 200 women, those who played video games on average had sex 4.3 times a week while those who didn’t play games only had sex just 3.2 times a week.

Perhaps even more promising for gamers is the fact that many of the women that we interviewed who have only recently started playing games said that they now have sex more often than before.

Gamers have never had it so good!

I guess I don't really quite get it.  Why do people doubt that hot chicks play video games?  What does how a girl look have to do with what we are interested in doing on the computer?  Why is it considered so rare?  Do folks also tend to think that only ugly men play video games, too?

I may be smaller than most men, but I have a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do and I know how to land a punch that would hurt even a man.

Hi. =)

Just kidding, heh. I personally agree with "feminism killed chivalry" - and I'm glad it did, too. As a feminist (or rather, equalist) and martial artist I personally believe women are just as capable of taking and handing out attacks. They may not always be as effective as, say, Bruce Lee's punches, but self defense is self defense. Where do you draw the line of not reacting in self defence? How do you judge if your opponent is significantly weaker than you? I don't feel you should ever violently resort to arse-kickery after someone lands a blow on you, unless the situation truly demands it. I say this as both an aspirant-police officer, somewhat experienced martial artist, and as a pacifist.

Also, Ladylore - being 'smaller' (if by smaller you mean length) has nothing to do with it. In fact, I personally believe it has many, many advantages in a fight.

I agree completely, and that is why I feel the way I feel.  I DO think that some women can hold their own in a fight against some men, even if she is smaller.  In some cases, the woman may be a better fighter than the man, even  But that doesn't give a man the right to hit a woman, anymore than any woman has a right to hit a man.

My point is, if women would act like ladies (and men would act like gentlemen) and stop hitting people period, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.  A woman who is hitting someone, in my opinion, is not acting like a lady.   And thusly is not obligated to be treated like one, heh.

Ha ha, there used to be a time that if a man was hitting a woman, it was solely to "keep her in her place".  And if a woman was being hit by her man, there wasn't much she could do about it rather than take it.  I wonder how many women were slapping or punching their men hundreds of years ago, when the rule to not hit women became part of chivalric law?  How many women could bob and weave wearing a corset and a petticoat?

The thing is, time has changed us ladies.  Some of us may playfully punch a guy or slap him if he said something that hurt our feelings or oogled some chick in a tight dress a little too hard.  But I do know of a few women who have hit a man out of anger with an intent to hurt.  I do not condone a man hitting a woman, but then again I do not condone a woman hitting a man in anger, either.  I know two wrongs don't make a right, but I have a hard time feeling sympathy for the chick who got knocked out after she punched a dude in the face three times.

I may be smaller than most men, but I have a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do and I know how to land a punch that would hurt even a man.  I wouldn't want a man to hit me, and so I don't hit men.  You gotta do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Oh - and I agree, chivalry does seem to be dying, and I agree that feminism is partly to blame.  When I smile and thank a man for politely holding the door open for me or happily take his seat that he offered, I get the strangest looks from other women nearby.

It seems as if being a lady is dying out, too.

It doesn't matter that only 5% of the players are roleplayers and 95% are not.

100% of the players in a MMORPG are in a Role Playing Game.  100% of the players should therefore tolerate roleplaying, regardless of whether or not they choose to participate in it.

Although I do have an issue with people who play MMORPGs but don't roleplay, it is only a small gripe.  My issue is with folks who look down upon, get offended by, or are intolerant of people playing a game the way it is supposed to be played.

It may be grossly overestimating how long the download will take.  If it truly takes more than 3 hours, there is a serious problem.

I'm not even going to bother. If you can't see the obvious diffrence between "in a game" and "real life", then I think I'll just be wasting my breath trying to explain.

I can see it - I asked *you* what *you* think the difference is. Now, answer. Don't troll, don't post spin, don't evade - just answer it. What is this difference, according to you?

As I said, I'm not even going to bother. I'm not going to write an entire article of something that is SO incredibly obvious. Its an incredible waste of time. It like explaining why 1 + 1 is 2.

Now you know how I feel interacting with a kid like you. That's right, you are a kid, with a kid's experiences and a kid's point-of-view. Time will cure most of that, and I'm afraid you'll have to take my word on that one. Argue it as much as you want; it's an inescapable fact.

I'm not patronising you or belittling you, Gameloading, I'm being honest - but I'm certain you won't see it that way. You are a bright guy, but your reach does exceed your grasp on occcasion.

But, after being online for 16-18 years like I have, I no longer perceive any real difference between computer-based interaction and "real-life" interaction. To me, there is no difference apart from the medium involved and a spurious feeling of anonymity.

"Hitting" on someone in-game to me is no different to what goes on at a nightclub or some other social venue, physical or virtual - I met my current wife online on ICQ over 9 years ago and I'll be married to her 9 years this July. I moved from one continent to another to be with her.

So, to me, there is no real difference, and I've had far, far too many experiences to be told blithely that there is.

Yes, hitting on people for the sheer sake that the target "may" be of the opposite sex is ridiculous, but the fact that you're playing a MMO should be no barrier to love or a good time if it leads in that direction. Some people communicate better via a keyboard than they do tete-a-tete, for a variety of reasons.

For the benefit of this topic:
I'm too old to even consider the reality of girl gamers to be a legitimate issue. They exist and oh well. Good on them. It's a total non-issue. Shame some immature people see fit to still make it one.

We are talking about seduction here. There is a diffrence with starting a relation through online and the practise of these bunch of women.  a WORLD OF DIFFRENCE.  Comparing it with the relation of your wife is ignorant, and is something that is entirely diffrent then the practise of this "guild". I have absolutely nothing against online relations, Nothing at all.

But this:
"So Femmes Fatales as an expression of the sublime feminine as "will to power", shall continue to mesmerize, seduce, tease and provoke. And more than anything else we shall continue to use our power to be wicked, desirable and feminine. MMOs provide us a perfect context to deploy and sustain our ambitions. "

Should stay out of games. In the future, when I let my kid play an MMORPG, I don't want him/her to be exposed to crap like this in a GAME. And not just for my kids. When I play an MMORPG, I also want to play the game without seeing a bunch of women "seducing" people to get whatever it is they want.

Actually Gameloading, Ulujain is right here.  There are many reasons why people try to "seduce" others, including just for the fun of it.  And it is really no different if done live or online.  If a bunch of women think it is fun to roleplay seductresses in a game, let them.  WHAT IN THE WORLD is so BAD about that?  I really don't get what problem you have with that.

You keep talking about kids playing the game.  That's the problem right there.  If a kid isn't mature enough to handle the possibility of somebody roleplaying something that isn't approporiate for them, then they are not mature enough to be playing an online ROLEPLAYING game with massive amounts of strangers.

If you have an issue with women or "feminine" people using their charms to get what they want, then you have a problem with it, that doesn't mean that it is problematic.  Half of getting what you want in life is about working with what you've got.

I don't know how I personally would feel about joining an all girl guild, but I like the idea of getting to roleplay a seductress.  Heck, it isn't something I do irl because I am happily married and have talent and intelligence, so why not in a game?

Interesting, joining the militray?  I know so few minorities use that outlet right?

I was looking at a story the other day about a black man who had been shot through the spine and was paralyzed in Iraq.  He was talking about how many thought he had been injured in gang related violence and wouldn't even give him a job because of it.

So no, I'm not surprised if whites don't date blacks.  Feel free to judge accordingly though, blacks have had to deal with it for a long time.  People who choose to prejudge, stereotype, and make their assumptions....well why would anyone want to date someone like that anyway?

Or to flip that around, why would a white person want to date someone who is convinced the world is out to get him, and spends every opportunity he gets trying to educate people about the hard life a black man lives. It's life. Live it and stop complaining.

Good point.  But the problem is that everybody seems to have something to complain about.  Including complaints about people complaining.

Aw come on Akunai.  Surely you get the point that Nakedone was trying to make?

Everybody knows that many, many times, decent black folks get lumped in with negative stereotypes unfairly, to your point.  But to Nakedone's point, there IS something that we can do to help put an end to such negative stereotypes.  STOP living up to them!

I understand that it is hard to get out of a rut, especially when you were born in a ruck, live in a ruck, raised by people who were stuck in a ruck and are surrounded by people are all in a ruck and don't even know it.  But that doesn't mean that it isn't possible rise up out of it.  We've been strong enough to endure slavery, being called 2/3 a man, lynchings, having no rights, etc. etc.  Certainly we are also strong enough to get out of thugging on each other and slinging rock just to "make it".  When we joined together and united in the past, we overcame all kinds of crazy obstacles.  I for one believe that if when we all unit again, we can and will overcome this mess too.

Violent rap music and idolizing thugs in itself doesn't cause the problem but is rather the symptom, I agree.  BUT you HAVE to agree that it DOES add negatively to the image that everyone, including our own young ones, have of us.  There is nothing cool at all about making money illegally for a living or having precious metals decorate your teeth, and though I realize that it is all just for entertainment purposes it is not funny when we do it all over the TV and magazines and in the movies where everybody can see and add to their wrong ideas.

Nakedone - what I want to point out to you though is a just a couple of things.  Yes, there is a lot of crap happening in some black communites but there is also a lot of good stuff happening too, most of which you won't ever hear about simply because bad news gets more attention than good.  And finally, please.  Please don't think that every black guy or that even most black guys think the same way the 3 or so black guys that you are cool with think.  We're all individuals.

After I talked to him a few times...He realized that I was a nice guy with ambition, goals, and ideas. He also saw that I wasn't a thug, didn't sag my pants, and didn't purposefully use broken english...(Some of the posters here won't believe this but many blacks don't fit in this box-these things are NOT what defines being black.)

Merv, I don't think it is that some of the posters here WON'T believe it, but rather they just don't know any better.  If they live in an area where there are very few blacks and so they have to go off of what they see in the media, or live where most of the blacks live in poverty and ignorance (like Detroit and Milwaukee for example) how else are they going to know that very many of us don't fit into those stereotypes?

I always find it odd when people on these boards talk about this "black culture" as if it somehow makes me foreign to them.  I don't like baggy pants, I know how to speak proper english, I am not violent or like my men violent, I have never been on welfare nor was I raised on it, etc. etc.  There's a lot more cultural overlap between all of the races than there are differences.  Including our love for MMORPGs.

I quit WoW because nothing motivated me to continue to play it.  I stopped playing with my main only in the early 40's due to boredom.

I never really felt like there was any compelling reason for my horde characters to want to PvP with the alliance, or vice versa.  There were more people on my side that I wanted to kill for acting like jerks.  So I never got any fulfillment or sense of excitment from PvP.

I never really felt like I actually needed to group with anybody to get anything done.  And since I was playing by myself so much, I couldn't really justify the monthly fee I was paying.  Because I certainly wasn't paying it to get new or dynamic game content.

I never really felt like there was anything for me to do in the game on days when I wasn't in the mood to grind; I found very few people who were into roleplaying, I had no house or apartment to decorate, crafting was so easy it was boring (and anything I could have produced wouldn't have been very unique or special anyways).  I still am not sure what you're supposed to do for fun in WoW if you're not grinding for exp or ganking for honor.

I never really got into the artwork, either.  I could tell that the artwork was very well done, but I just never got used to looking like a cartoon character with a face of 1 of 5.

And finally, I quit playing WoW because I realized that there was only ONE reason why I WAS playing it in the first place.  I was only playing it because everybody else was playing it.  There wasn't anything about WoW that I enjoyed as much as let alone more than EQ1, EQ2, Lineage 2, etc. etc. at all.  So I went back to a game that I actually enjoyed instead of just following the hype.

I am a black woman, and though I am happily married to a black man, I have dated outside of my race, and would consider it again should I have the misfortune of becoming single in the future.  Even though I know I'd have to overcome the initial backlash from my family if I were to bring a white guy home.

I remember the first time I realized that I was raised to be romantically prejudiced against whites.  I was only 12 years old, and a blonde, blue-haired classmate and I were pretty chummy.  There was a moment once when he tried to kiss me, and I actually pushed him away and said that there was no way that I was going to give my first kiss to a white boy, even though deep down I'd had a crush on him.  *laughs* Even though I went to a predominately white school, I'd had this in my head.  When I thought about it later on, I was so embarrassed by my own reaction, that I avoided the boy for the rest of the school year.  I intentionally stopped being color struck ever since.

Like a few other people said, it isn't really about looks or skin color, but rather about personality and interests that's compatible with me.  I guess I just can't understand people who say that they aren't attracted to ALL dark skinned or light-skinned people, or only like blondes, or etc. etc.  I'm attracted to a soul, a personality, a mind.  Not hair texture/color or skin pigmentation.

EQ2 also has holiday events, quests, decorations and items.
I left WoW due to boredom.  The expansion sounds just as boring - I will not be buying it.  The only expansion that could possibly bring me back to WoW is a roleplay expansion.

What's it called, and how can I find it?

Update:  Never mind, found it myself.  Thanks for mentioning it!

Well, I personally would enjoy Oblivion exactly the way it is now, but with the option to play with at least 1 other person.  Doesn't need to be massively multiplayer, just multiplayer.  The world in Oblivion is sooo big, there is so much to do and see and explore, that I actually find myself feeling kind of lonely in that game.  500 entire hours of solo gameplay in one huge game just feels kinda like a waste to me.  I'd love to have just 1 real friend in that game.

Fav Graphics: Lineage 2

Fav PVE: Everquest II

Fav PVP:  Lineage 2

Fav Story: Saga of Ryzom

Most Anticipated: Was a tie for me between Age of Conan and Star Trek Online.  Voted for Age of Conan because it seems the most daring and mature of all upcoming games.

Fav New Game of 2006:  I voted for Guild Wars.  It can be debated whether or not this is an actual MMO, I'm sure.  But even if it ain't a MMO, it is STILL a better MMO than those other sad games that came out this year.

Fav Game - Everquest II

7-year old girls dont read manuals on how to use the Wiimote lol...

nevertheless....i dont think bowling ever meant launching the ball as hard and fast as you can at the pins, well, unless your drunk, in which case fine, but, if your a 7 year old, shouldnt bowling be the good 'ol two-hands between the feet, feet spread at the line kind of thing????  man....haha      frivolous lawsuits seeking instant fame and wealth beginning in 3...2...

First off, I don't think it was a 7 year old who did it.  Next, EVEN if a 7 year old did it, and claims ignorance because they don't read instruction manuals the PARENTS are responsible for reading them.  If the parents didn't read them, their claim has ZERO merit.

If Nintendo's legal department has any sort of intelligence, there's a disclaimer inside the manual saying "excessive force is not needed and damages to televisions or other household objects from the use of the Wii is not Nintendo's fault."  Something along those lines anwyays.  I mean, I'm one of those who's guilty of not reading the instruction manual, and EULA and other various legal documents when it comes to gaming BUT I'll also not file a lawsuit against a company because I put the controller into the TV, damaging it due to my negligence.

I'm a grown woman, and I have never read instructions on how to use a game controller or joystick unless it was to figure out what the extra buttons do.  And personally, I don't think anyone should have to - it shouldn't be that complicated.

Don't forget that this wasn't the first time someone lost control of their wiimote and cracked a television screen.  The first incident involved a grown man.

How many different incidents will we need to have for you to accept that maybe, just maybe, there is a faulty design issue here?

So far there has been two claims of runaway airborne wiimotes cracking television screens.  Just found it kinda interesting and thought I'd share:

"Wiimotes are becoming finely guided missiles, or so the internets would have us believe. The second set of destroyed TV pics comes direct from Michaela, who tells us that her seven year old girl was also playing Wii Sports bowling when her wrist strap broke as well, sending the controller rocketing toward the TV at a glass-cracking lawsuit-inducing pace. Now, we find the Wii Sports bowling thing to be an interesting coincidence, but it seems a little peculiar that a seven year old could produce enough force rolling that ball to tear her strap apart. We're not saying this is the first in what could be a long line of TV-grubbing copycats, but we think the time is officially upon Nintendo to step in before a few hundred thousand straps recalled turns into a few million -- and countless more televisions get themselves busted up royal."
