well given I think I am finally burnt out with WOW until catacalysm comes out, I am looking for something to satisfy my sweettooth for MMO's. I have played several MMO's wow has got pretty repetitive and boring and now its just a grind for bigger and better gear for the next raid (ICC10/25) after that there is nothing much to do until cat comes out. So far I have played eq2,and lotro both I left due to low population n the server i was with. SWG (well we can pretty much figure out where i stand with that.) lineage 2 (overrun economy, and low pop),aion mediocre, Startrek online(cant even call this a true MMO as far as I am concerned) EVE Tech 2 in a few parts, but its horrendously slow pace and boring at times. I tried darkfall trial, but didnt catch my fancy as the UI is absolutely horrendous but wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.. also tried AOC but cant stand that game anymore. I was thinking possibly Fallen earth, but during the beta, i only got to lvl 16 or so and the constant craftng was annoying as well as performance issues. has this changed?
any similar MMO's that you can suggest?? I dont know what is coming out, or maybe I should just wait for Earthrise or FFXIV to come out perhaps?? Id like some possible suggestions with links so I can perhaps look them up or if your playing them give me anidea on population statistics, changes, history of improvements if any etc. thanx. |

Originally posted by Bagguns the company still has an obligation to notify all account users of the change to the payment method if any, such as in this case they finally included a subscription method. (despite the fact the stupid game still isnt even finished, yet people are already getting charged) there wasnt a subscription method prior to this where people could set it to not renew, so therefore SV was negligent in this fact. |

Originally posted by reijan no your right, it is technically illegal to have no way for the consumer to "opt" out of payment if the product does not suit their needs. In this instance SV had set up a preorder which of course is normal with most game companies today. However unlike most game companies they were idiotic enough not to include an opt out for subscription, so by all regards the consumer was under the direct assumption they were only purchasing the content game itself, not a subscription. SV later included a subscription method and page attached to each account regardless of the account holders current standing with the game. This is what automatically put their CC# that was attached to their Account into effective payment by default by SV. WHich is illegal because SV has a standing obligation to notify all account holders who purchased the preorder game that their account has been set to autorenew and they should set it to no renew if they wish not to be charged a subscription fee. This very omission makes them financially accountable to refunding all accountholders who felt they were wrongly charged payment via the CC# info. this very act nullifies any contractual obligation by the consumer to offer payment if the company or corporate entity does not have available features or means to allow the consumer to opt out of payment. This can very well turn into a class action lawsuit if enough people got together. |

that is some fucked up grimy shit from SV. which is why I will never buy this game. bunch of fucking shady amatuers. Either they know what they are doing and are purposely doing this, or are so stupid that they didnt realize oh maybe we should send an email to everyone who purchased the game about the game being autorenewed by a certain date and check their account and change the autorenew. But my question is why use a person's CC# for a purchase of theg ame when they never inputted the info into the subscription page that was never there. thats criminally negligent they are essentially using your credit card info without your explicit consent. You cant do that as a business, when you have no features avialable for a consumer to "opt" out of the subscription that was never there. AS I said, SV is a bunch of amatuers the BS that has been going on keeps getting bigger and worse lol. it would be hilarious if it weren't so sad. But my take is, if your retarded enough to buy a game that isnt finished, then your retarded enough to get beat in the head financially when shit hits the fan. thus here we are in the present form.....people getting charged for subscriptions they never subscribed to lol....why? because it was never there in the first place when they purchased this half finished game. lol such awesome fail. |

Will you not be playing this game soley because of its graphics?
General Discussion « Xsyon 4/04/10 11:16:11 PM
Being an artist, its not so much the "graphics" that are important but rather the art direction. to me the gameplay seems somewhat interesting, though a bit contrived in certain aspects. but the art direction is absolutely horrible. character models looks odd and amatuerish, the environmental design is crude, meshes are very low poly in some places while higher in others where they dont need to be. Texture art are fine in some places while crap in others. there is a certain level of inconsistency with the art work and meshes. i find the art direction as a whole a bit uninspiring and boring. good gameplay or not, I think we have come to a point where you can have creative art direction and stylization and still have good gameplay. it all depends on the skills and creativity of the development team doing the game. |

Also there is a cyberpunk MMO coming out from a start up in the next 2 years roughly, that is skill based, and sandboxy and you have alot of freedom. henrik seems arrogant, like they are they end all be all of sand box pvp games, please dude stop smoking dat shit lol. If the game is sellable from a gameplay standpoint, is solidly supported as well as properly managed and developed by the developers any real publisher worth their guff will support and finance it freely knowing there will be a considerable profit margin to be made. But i equally agree from the community there has been alot of crap pumped out trying to replicate WOW's success, its not gonna happen. Focus on something else, do it well, and people will flock to it and pull out their wallets if it is done well, and it fits their interests. old tride and true method =" SUPPLY VS DEMAND" SIMPLE ECONOMICS PEOPLE lol. |

General: Farmville Killed Gaming, V-Worlds, Dogs
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/17/10 2:40:08 PM
i dont really consider Farmville killing gaming. its merely a social game, a time waster, some people obviously spend money on it, but most dont. I dont play farmville and I probably never will. I just think I consider it a killer of gaming, as it doesnt directly compete with traditional games. but I also think its a good thing that these 'games" are here as they introduce non gamers to the joy of gaming, whether it be a social game, a psuedo-RPGesque game. It gives a person who would not necessarily be interested in gaming in general a reason to be curious and venture further into perhaps console gaming such as buying a PS3, wii, or xbox360 or even getting PC games. I think they are in some respect are a benefit to the industry as a whole. |

i dont do lifelong subs, between the hype and constant changes developers make its not even worth it. besides I never liked a game that much that Id be willing to pay $200+ for lol, I got better stuff to do with my money than to spend $200+ on a game. |

nothing says PSU FAIL like the smell of "magic smoke" coming out from a PC's back case lol. I had that happen to me with my 1k watt BFG PSU. |

Darkfall: Seven Day Trial for One Dollar Announced
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/10 5:42:50 PM
i tried darkfall, and while it wasnt as horrible as I thought it was I wasnt crazy about it, but that could be im burned out by MMO's .It doesnt deserve the flak its gettng in the community. but its not for me. the crafting was interesting and slightly complex so found it fun to harvest nodes, and make chainmail armor. but the grinding continously on only goblins got a bit boring after a while with very little to do quest wise. the interface wasnt absolutely horrible but it asnt fun and took a while to get used to. I absolutely hate the fact you have to individually place all items into your inventory. then proceed to individually place them out if you want to sell those items you looted. I looted quite a bit to make enough gold to buy skills for armorsmithing, and found it often monotous to have to select every item seperately, they definitely have to change that. Game engine is pretty decent, the draw distance is pretty horrible and is "greyed" out. but the lighting is pretty decent, and shadowing nicely done along with post processing effects it looks nice. I also had some decent performance with fps ranging from 40-100 fps, depending on where I was but also dipped to ~20 fps sometimes. Armor on the characters look horrible, but could be I was very low level and just past starter gear, so Im sure the stronger gear looks better, and has better model seperation. Sound is pretty decent, but the music is very minimal and almost non existent. AI isnt horrible but find it different in the fact that if Im fighting a goblin shaman itll intially attack me from a distance, ill move into melee range, and when it takes a few hits it starts running often into other mobs. now its not a bad behavior just unexpected, and different than most MMO mobs in how they act. I like the way archery is done in which it comes down your skills of shooting, knowing distance, drop, and anticaption of movement of a player and mob.(its harder than it looks but often rewarding when you down a mob with arrows) its evident mobs and ur character takes more dmg from the back, so running is definitely last resort (only with health pots if u have them lol and have stamina to spare....trust me i know this first hand) I think in the end the "grind" gets on my nerves more than anything, i found it very slow and plodding and often boring to just "grind" goblins in a certain area, rise in my armor mitigation, skills in swords, polearms etc then move to a new area further away with slightly tougher mobs. the 20 hour protection you recieve is good, which enables you to get the necessary jump on skills you definitely need in order to start competing in pvp when it starts coming. This allows the player to learn the game, the UI(trust me you need some time learning this UI lol), laern how skills increase, e.g. armor for melee, archery, magic, weapons skills, the list goes on. In the end I thinnk my patience to "grind" to the necessary "skill level" to compete in PVP is a bit short right now. Now this is by no means saying darkfall is a bad game, in fact i was delightfully surprised on how much fun i actually had. I found I never really had the typical sensation of "plodding boredem" when playing the game which I often get if the game really bores the crap out of me. I think the practice of pressing R, then F to open the loot of the mob, then individually grab each item into your bag gets a bit stressful especially when there are times when mobs run into you and start attacking you mid loot. The openworld is definitely good, I love an open world so this definitely struck a chord with me as I hate heavily zoned games that are so prevelant now.I also was surpised by the community and how welcoming they were, I immediately received assistance on information on what to do from multiple people, though as couple days progressed, and i moved from sandybrook up north to henna where orcs mobs were I was introduced by some of the darker side of the community, but not necessarily in a abad way, lot of it was a few people talkng smack about the game, or bringing up irrevelant topics that got under people's skin. So the community definitely gets a thumbs up. Also i was amazed to see 2 people playing where i got killed by a goblin (this was the part I was mentioning about making sure not to drun if u have no stamina, and no health pots) I went back as fast as I could to get back to my tombstone, 2 players had already started looting it, and rather than run off with my stuff, they traded me my stuff back without me having to ask. (though a few people stated it could be it wasnt worth really antyhing lol) but nonethless its the thought and act that counts. So another Thumbs up. Now a big question you might be asking, and i must ask myself. Will I go back and actually buy the game? Possibly. Right now im a bit burned out on MMO's So i think its better to take a slight vacation from MMO's play a few games a few multiplayers ( playing bad company 2 now and loving it) This way I can come to the game I want to play with a fresh attitude. Conclusion, Darkfall is getting too much bad press for all the wrong reasons,I can definitely admit when I am wrong. The game has some serious depth to it, but it does come down to you how much depth the game eventually has. the crafting is done really well , as i loved mining nodes, and making my own armor and weapons. im a pure craft junkie hehe, i had a lvl 90 droid engineer on SWG and made some of the best combat droids on naritus server heheh by meticulously surveying resources. Im sure the PVP is awesome, and I hope to one day experience that, for now I gonna take a break from MMO's in general, so when I play it I can come with a clean perspective. Darkfall is definitely worth a second look. Ill be putting it on my to buy list. |

Darkfall: Seven Day Trial for One Dollar Announced
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/02/10 10:30:35 AM
game, was bit interesting, bit grindy, but not a horrible grind than any other MMO. i guess thats to up your skills for later pvp. but not horrible as I assumed it would be. looks pretty decent at maxxed settings, and i was gettin anywhere between 40-100 fps dependingon what was being drawn. gobbie shamans are a pain as they like to hit and run. As well as the gobbies having insane aggro ranges lol, im assuming its Line of sight detection based on their orietnation to you and your distance to them. not the typical radial aggro that most MMO's go with. it also seems that they miss just as much as you do if you move suddenly from the spell ball or arrow coming at you. no real questing as i saw besides the ones from the merchants and councilors and they involved basic gold and items such as starter gear and resourcing gathering gear. but ig uess thats to get you started gearwise.
Ill have to play a bit further but its not as bad as a game as i thought it was, but im sure as I progress itll get better, but I am still on the fence on whether ill get it, so im gonna see where it goes as I progress. One of the finer points was the community in chat, very helpful, very welcoming, thought warned me to be paranoid, and I have yet to see the darker side of the community as of yet. So at least iknow what to expect. so not bad so far I wasnt getting that boring bleh feeling i sometimes get with some MMO's I start into so thats a good sign. |
