Anyone who is wondering whether to get this game or not, it rocks. Quit WoW to start a new MMO career and so far having a blast. Exploring is fun and questing is great (Doesnt hold your hand but gives you hints on where the quest is).... Crafting is addicting and VERY competative. PvP is fun (Monster play) and when people start hitting 40+ itll get even better monster vs hero play! |

Vanguard wasn't fun..... I played EQ, DAOC, ect ect ect... This game just didn't have any spice to it. I got to level 25 and stopped playing. The world was to big to be group based... Some areas were dead.... And no, even if the game had a large community, the game still wasn't that entertaining. Crafting was cool, diplomacy was definately unique but those two elements aren't enough to keep me there. LOTRO's features are all around fun. Questing is fun, crafting is simple but fun (Can critical craft which makes stuff more powerful), Monster play gets you destiny points to use for your character or to buff your monster, deeds are extra stats and abilities for your character... The lis goes on... One thing I really liked is that questign is optional beside the main "epic" questline. If I wanted I could just work on crafting and grind my way up in levels. Trust the rating, it deserves at least a 9... Theres not one thing I can give lower than a 9.... Graphics are stunning, gameplay is very entertaining, sound is amazing, they did a great job with in-game music and players can create there own usic with instruments, customer support is excellent, and I rarely lag on my cable modem.... Community is helpful thus far and that is pretty much it. There you have it, LOTRO in a nutshell and why Vanguard just doesnt cut it. |

LOTRO is being posted a lot on the WoW forums.. In retaliation, there making casual posts here on how they didnt like LOTRO when in actuallity they dont own the game and just want to turn people away from it. This is the kind of player that plays WoW. Sick and twisted, I dont even know if there human beings. LOTRO is a great game, dont let the WoW fanbois turn you away from this. Im a 2 year WoW player and I can say, WoW is a timesink and not even a fun one. |

Before you judge the game, get into Combo/Bree cities after the startng areas. Game is filled with players, crafting owns and grouping is very fun. |

Buy the game, get to level 25, and enjoy the experience, if you dont like the game by then, retire. |

1.) The populations seem empty when I create a character, why is that? a.) Dont wanna ruin the story, but the starting areas are instanced. For example, humans go to archet, the first archet is instanced because after you finish that line of quests you enter post-archet (The world map), similar to guild wars. If even then you dont see many people, its probably cause Archet takes 30 minutes to complete and its the only zone that pretty much doesnt have replay value, by that I mean, theres no exploration quests or crafting ect ect. So finish Archet if your a human or gnome, and combe/bree will brighten your day cause they are filled with players.
2.) Races... a.) Dwarves and Elves are the least played races (Hobbits might be also, I see soooo many mans) But there starting area is different than hobbits/humans so this can be very deceiving since you probably wont see many dwarves or elves when you start. Like the top post, after the starting zones, it connects into the larger areas whre everyone quests ect ect. 3.) Quests... a.) Not all quests are mandotory... The ONLY quest you have to do is the "Epic" quest line.. It goes by Books.. Chapters 1-12 then book 2, ect ect... Any other quest is optional... Although a lot of quests get you deeds in the area but if you wanted to, you could grind and/or craft (level while you craft and kill mobs near nodes) for as long as you want. In fact, mobs drop craft items so grinding is useful. 4.) Epic Quest Line.. a.) If you are having doubts early on, wait till you do Chapter 11 on Book 1. I will not ruin it, but this gives you a nice look at what to expect later in the game in terms of groups and dungeons. Its by far better than WoW. Turbine mixes elements of Asherons Call, Everquest, and WoW to give this game a fresh feel. Its insanely fun. 5.) Least played classes... a.) The nice thing I seen about this game is that theres a large amount of every class. Although I see a lot more hunters and champions than any other class, theres still a bunch if others to group with. I remember in WoW you would do /who Priest 18-22 for Deadmines and you would get maybe 1 or 2 search results where they dont even wanna go. 6.) Graphics.. a.) This game runs on low end systems the only problem is that you must turn settings way down.. Let me tell you, High settings and low settings in this make a HUGE diference in the look. Personally I can stand low settings, but I tried Ultra high and I was amazed at the change. So amazed that im buying a new computer soon. 7.) Music.. a.) Yes, you can play many instruments and in the next patch there addign drums/bass and many more instruments you can record your songs and send them to people. You can pretty much start a band.... When people go afk in a dungeon later, you can whip out your clarinet or lute and entertain everyone with your skills. This is by far another unique and addicting feature I came across. |

I originally bought this game just to do my routine MMO test.I usually buy every MMO a they hit shelves. I honestly was getting ready to say wow this game is terrible. But after a days gameplay, I was shocked. Everything in it is amazing. The graphics, quests, deeds, storyline quests, items, crafting, exploring, Monster system, the world map, already a free content update in June.... Many more but bottom line, this game is worth every dollar spent and eery hour played.
PS: Try and invest in a headset, theres a coice chat system integrated into the game, and when you join a fellowship, you can pretty much chat or whatever you want without being bothered by typing. Completely optional though for the shy ones :) |

Pretty much played every MMO there is in existance. Most recently, 2 years of WoW... Heres my short review of LOTRO...
The game is worth every penny you pay for it and every hour you play it... When I first heard about this game I thought it was going to be a flop. I recently purchased it, logged in and played for 12 hours straight... I must say, im shocked at how fun this is. Theres crafting (which starts after the starting area), theres rare spawns that roam around... Theres elite raid mobs that roam around. Theres treasure chests, deeds, quests, exploration, destiny points, PvP, play as a monster, join a fellowship, join a kinship, talk on OOC chat, Auction house, horses, omg the list can go on forever. Its everything plus more..... ON TOP OF THAT, they already announced there first FREE content update. Go buy this game now if you like MMORPG's because thi is it right here. |

I know where, in fact im gonna tell people where it came from. WoW forums is flooded with little kids ranting that LOTRO will be the end of WoW, so when they make the change and they see "OH MY GOD THIS ISNT WOW" they complain on the forums when in fact, LOTRO is very good game. In fact, I quit WoW to play this. Original poster has no idea what an MMO is about, just what WoW is about. |

Just bought the game and its installing... I figured ide ask a few questins while its installing...
1.) Do I need a credit card or game card to activate my 30 days?
2.) What is the itemization like in this compared to WoW? Like are there magical, rare, set, unique, items ect ect? Where are the items found? Dungeons? Do normal mobs drop rare items? Or is it 100% all quest rewards?
3.) What class seems to be the least played? |

To original poster.... This game is only questing... It has a few small things to do other than quest, crafting and PvP but that wont get your attention to long. There is no end game raiding in this game. Theres just questing until you hit the cap and thats it. Dont compare this to WoW, they are 2 totally different games. WoW is more gear oriented where you level a character and hunt for gear. This is quest oriented, you level up and quest. Made for those who like RPG's, almost like console RPGs and those who like to RP. |

So many uninformed people nowadays... To the original poster..... Diablo II isn't an MMO... It just an online game. An MMO, has a large world usually, a large community playing in the same game world in real time. Diablo II and Guild Wars, the 2 games that people confuse for MMO's are just online RPGs..... If you didnt like the games you listed, then you dont like MMORPG's...... |

I saw a video on youtube describing RvR... Theres 6 sides you can choose... They are paired so that theres 3 conflicts... So If I choose for example a dwarf.... can I travel over to the human conflict? or is my whole game experience with only the dwarf conflict? |

Its similar to DOTA (Warcraft 3).... It mixes RPG with RTS.... Heres the rundown... Games can be anywhere from 1v1 to 6v6... Each chooses light or dark and from there they choose a map and a hero. You pretty much control your hero on the map, leveling up, upgrading items in real time and PvPing with the other sides heroes. On top of that, each side gets a base, with defense towers ect... The bases continuously pump out units which you can also kill for XP/$$... The objective is to either destroy the opponents base or if ist a timed game, at the end of the time limit, 2 Ultra Bosses spawn on each side, and depending on how well you did determines there level. They then duke it out all while your heres wage war in the middle. Very fast paced, very fun, ranking system is fun and theres a FREE item shop which you can buy items from points you earn in game. If you lose, you still earn shop points! Check it out now! |
