Oh I have just been waiting for this thread. Here are some things that other development teams should learn from SWTOR Make maps-planets useable to multiple level ranges. As it stands many of the planets-maps are ghost towns because like Taris for example is only useful for a very narrow level range for the most part. It seems a huge waste of art and space and leaves me loosing that valued immersion of having massive multiplayer's. Do not get lazy in class design. SWTOR's 4 class + AC +mirrors is incredibly lazy. Tell me why the bounty hunter and the trooper are the same? why does the empire trust a greedy BH to run their ops? Makes no sense. Bobafett didn’t play policeman for Darth whatever? These first two items ruin re-playability which in a subscription based game is very very bad for business. Need more factions. If there were a third "independent" party we would have better PvP and other faction based game-play and probably way less huttball. in that same vein there should have been many more PvP activities, WZ's etc at release. Do not impose random weapon restrictions. There is absolutely no reason why a GS can't shoot a blaster rifle, or a Bounty Hunter has to use a pistol. Its just an unnecessary ideal that gets in the way of game play. If I want to play a vanguard with a vibrasword then I should be able too. Invisible walls, “exhaustion zones” are just indicators of poor game design. Item drops and totally screwed up items, such as +cunning assault cannons. How can a company expect to be taken seriously when things like this seem to slip thru the patching process again and again. There are so many of these little aggravations. Companion weapons, quest rewards that you simply have no use for etc. Theres a ton of these types of problems in game I would expect this out of a company like StarVault but I bought this title knowing that BW would offer me a better experience. I'm still waiting. |

I dont agree with the OP. These games are just a couple of choices in the big world of MMO's that has bloomed over the last few years. No one buys Darkfall that doesnt want to put it all on the line. It's Hard Core. they want to think of themselves as being competitive, at the very top of the food chain. Hell If you can be consistantly sucessful in DF with all the bugs then I'll give you a golf clap. The games you mention were built for niche markets. To say they are failing is to misrepresent their numbers. True, each has major major problems. But they do not have full teams of code/art/whatever working on the product. these games were cheaply (in the big scheme) produced and are only barely maintained. Shadowbane, was clearly a good game with a less then adequate server code. It was guild driven with several major eays to play. But it was choppy as hell and needed better technology for its size. UO is another example. Full serve UO, even after the Trammel invasion was still AWESOME on the Felucca (PvP) side. It got slow but it bounced back and still holds an audience base. Full loot PvP games arent designed to get the WoW crowd but their infrastructure costs are lower and their continued subscription base obviously provides profit. Full loot games by design appeal only to a certain segment of the MMO playerbase. So if they can remain afloat for any length of time I suppose its a win. |

I think its a shame that SWG ends up scrapped. With nearly every other game running today looking like a version of WoW it was nice to have something that stood out from the crowd. SWG with its dual identity game play and fairly well implemented "fluff" should have gone on forever. I never could figure out why the space game wasent more popular. It was a whole other game! Two games in one. |

Biggest loosers in this situation are gold farmers. the pet for gold system will cut drastically into their market. When oyu read a post decrying the whole idea think about the motivation of the poster. |

Means that at some point two or three months down the road they will release a patch that screws a percentage of the playerbase that has invested their time and money, Ragers will flame, Fanbois will defend and the game will suffer. Game companies should realise that in any mmo with pvp in any form the balance should be the foundation of the system not the "polish". |

Plenty of look, not much feel. Smooth probably the smoothest beta I've ever been in and I've been in a ton. Gameplay is way linear. There are invisible walls. I wont pay money for a product that employs invisible walls as its a symptom of a much larger design oriented laziness. I love the Art but hate the graphics if that makes any sense. The player models, in my opinion just suck. Nothing new here. Of course the MOBS look great. The mechanics are awesome. but the gameplay design is uninspired go here kill that. Simply horrid. Lots of good but no real improvement in the field of game play. |
