Concerned about group/pvp content of the game
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/18/09 3:53:27 PM
I believe i read when they started the new studio they recruited experienced personnel from the mmo community to help them. There are plenty of talented people in the industry what worries me more is who is in charge. After the stuff ups of Vanguard (seems Brad was afk a lot) , Tabula Rasa (changed from fantasy to sci-fi and garriot blasting into space), Age of Conan (Gaute thinking he had a great game (delusional?) then quitting). Bioware seem to be able to release polished, finished, fun games that please both fans and critics. I'm hoping this professionalism transfers over to SW:TOR as the industry sure needs it.

A lot of people, myself included feel Funcom just plain outright lied to its playerbase about endgame content. Posting seiges/raids were fine when they were plainly broken. I dont expect a game to be perfect (i played Vanguard for 14 months from beta) but i dont like being treated like a child and/or being lied to. Funcom will never see a penny from me no matter what they release next of if AoC turned itself around and became a success and most of my friends agree with me. |

Best Solo Class at higher levels?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 1/13/09 6:01:32 PM
Forget about soloing in RvR at higher levels. Too many people and the zones arent that big. In massive battles ranged aoe classes are more fun imo. I play a chosen and with lag, cc becomes painful. |

Nar. If DF had been released a couple years ago i might have checked it out but i am just sick of fantasy atm. Looking forward to Earthrise personally. |

number of beta signups/official forum subs breaks 300K
General Discussion « Darkfall 1/13/09 6:06:08 AM
Will they be able to handle 300k people wanting to play on the 22nd? I mean will they have enough servers up and running. I know of quite a few people i have been talking to lately are bored with the current mmo's and are looking for something new. Look at how many people purchased AoC and WAR this year even if neither could hold on to the initial interest. Darkfall might not be promoting itself but there if a fair bit of interest around as well as just general curiosity. What 750k people decided to try the game on the 22nd? |

IMO, why WAR didn't get higher sub numbers, and it's current state.
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 1/11/09 4:02:13 PM
WAR needs to completely redesign its endgame. Forts are laggy and unplayable for loads, City seiges are a PvE PQ, RvR consists of 2 sides running around separate pairings PvE'ing keeps/bo's. At the moment it feels like i'm on a RvE gear grinding merry-go-round and i want off. |

Depends. If i can turn down graphics options so low to remove foliage and shadows what will you hide in? |

The idea of an itelligent raid boss is interesting. Personally i would have a more random system where once you reach the highest level the game randomly picks a player (say its a gift of the gods) and bestows them these god powers for a limited time. Less chance for exploiting or hacking determining who gets to be the hero. Just because they say only the best PvPers will be a hero doesnt mean people wont try or find a way around it. Some people will do anything to be the "best" and every mmo ive played has had some type of hackj/exploit/bots in it. |

My only concern is on my server (Darklands) Order and Destruction are fairly evenly balanced with both sides pushing zones up to the fortresses. But now we are at a stalemate. It used to be server crashes now its just impossible to take a half decently defended fortress. Fortress attempts favour defenders to much. You only get an hour from when you flip zone and with some defense (oil, destroyed ram seige pads) it can take 10 minutes to get a door down. The fact that when you engage the lord the attackers cannot rez anyone and they have to run back from the warcamp really kills any momentum attackers can build up. I've been on front lines with a couple guild healers and they say they cant keep me up cause of the lag (see below). Seeing as there is only one way to get to the fortress lord you just have zerg vs zerg and the lag is unplayable for most everyone as well. Keep design is too simplistic and seeing as technology doesnt seem to be able to handle large scale RvR/PvP (200+ vs 200+) Mythic needs to find a way to split up the zergs. |

Dont kid yourself. I know a fairly broad selection of mmo players and i can tell you that this will be a niche game (not that thats a bad thing). I would say only 30% of the people i know from PvE centric games like EQ2, Vanguard, LOTRO, WoW who tried more PvP centric games like AoC or WAR actually enjoyed it enough to stay more than a month. Most went back to their PvE games. New players outnumber the older guys who started with UO, EQ etc by a fair margin i'd say. WoW brought millions of people who had never heard of mmo's into the genre. Recent MMO players who have been introduced to the genre via WoW, EQ2 etc have only really played gear centric leveling based games. I've discussed DF with people i know and they seem interested until the full looting part. This is a major stumbling block for a lot of players. DF will only fail if it doesnt launch with most of its promised features or is just unplayable. I doubt the devs expect to be as big as WoW.

Mythic to handle RMT (sweatshops) effectivly?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/29/08 6:35:28 PM
Gold farmers dont really upset economies as devs have already planned money sinks to offset legitimate ways to earn coin. Its just gold spam 24/7 that gets bloody annoying.
It is duping that ruins economies. In Vanguard there was a way to dupe any item or bascially double your money every 10-15mins. I stumbled onto how they were doing it and reported it and wasnt long after they disabled traders/banks etc to come up with a fix but by then damage was done and the gold spammers had insane amounts of coin. Inflation went nuts as they converted their illegal coin to goods like rare gear or rare crafting consumables. A few of us noticed this as reported them but a lot escaped unnoticed.
Look at the gem duping bug in AoC that has been going on for a month without a fix. It has totally unbalanced PvP which is why they are being forced to nerf gems to nothing till they can find a proper fix.
As long as developers are serious about fixing dupes even if it means shutting down servers to hot fix it i can understand that at least they are trying to keep the game fair. Ignore the problem or pretend it doesnt exist and i will never come back. |

WAR feels much more like a living world to me. Maybe not on a scale as large as Vanguard but its better than i thought it would be. There seems to be parts of the world off the beaten track for explorers even. |

I'd liken crafting to a mini-game. Not exactly deep but more a fun diversion. |

Doing the quest "The Awakening II - II. Strom's Discovery" where you have to speak to Renton and get him to talk. Killed his friends but dialogue tree just ends when you ask him whats going on and he just mumbles in the background. |

I've heard the 23rd, 27th and even 30th as possible dates. Everyone is waiting for Atari to distribute to retailers who will get your copy to you. |

Can't attach AoC to Existing Funcom Account
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/20/08 5:54:19 PM
Yes i had to create a new user name but this is only associated with AoC. It wouldnt let me use my exisiting name so i added the number 100 to the end of it to fix it. It confused me as well. Funcoms whole account system needs work imo. I hate to say it but i prefer SOE's. |
