Originally posted by Onigod Plenty of mobs drop gold. Zombies, skellies and goblins usually only drop 2-5gp but have a chance to drop up to 50gp. Trolls too i think. If they are smart and are skinning the mobs they could sell the mats for some extra coin. A lot of people would prefer to farm mobs and buy gear than craft. They might also run across a couple of chaos chests and get a few hundred gold. They could find a treasure map from fishing and have 3,000 gold. I'm a DF noob and i've managed to accumulate nearly 20,000gp in less than 2 weeks. |

The only reason i would have still delayed a Steam release is to have the Market up and running so people can buy mounts and basic armors without having to craft.

I think the Banhammer wall is a brilliant idea. Sure other games say they ban bots / exploiters / hackers in waves but you have to take the devs word for it. Here it is visible proof. Actually seeing people's names makes it seem more real. |

Long as you find a clan / friends to run around with you'll be fine. You probably aren't going to an uber PK'er with that ping but you can still enjoy the game.

Also imo don't put more than 50 into a skill. It just costs to much prowess to be worth it unless you are rolling in prowess. Better to have multiple skills at 50 than 1 or 2 at 100. I'd advise putting transfers to 50, getting the rank 2 str booster and putting points into str so you can wear and use better armor and weapons. Don't discount harvesting. You can get treasure maps from fishing which will give you a decent amount of gold to start with. Plus there are plenty of harvesting prowess feats to work on. |

Game is lacking a lot of features but this launch wasn't the real test. That will come when they release on Steam. They are going to want to have optimised the game and added things like the market if they hope to retain some of the more general gamers Steam will expose them too.

Smoothest launch I've seen from an MMO in years.
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/17/13 2:10:48 PM
Whilst its not the smoothest it's not the worst. It's better than i expected based on AV's reputation but plenty of people have had issues myself included. When i tried downloading the client via the patcher i was getting 40kb/sec and it was going to take me 2 days to download. So i went to the forums and found they recommended a torrent. Tried that and was getting 4kb/sec and was going to take me 21 weeks lol. Then a guildy found someone who had managed to download the files and set up his own download. Now i was getting 700kb/sec. So i finally download and do a fresh install of the new client and start the launcher only to get the Protocal Error message time and time again. I would try for 15 minutes, take a break then try again. This went on for some hours. I searched forums for any help and nothing worked. Finally the launcher initialised and downloaded a 10mb patch. Woo hoo. It finished and i press play. Suddenly my anti-virus software roars to life and says "Detected suspicious processes. Terminating program Darkfall." Start client again. PeProtocolError. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Keep trying for a few more hours and finally get in. I manage to get through the starting zone and into the world proper. I am running through the tutorial quest to loot a mob at a monster spawn when the game crashes. I try to log back in and the NA server is offline. I keep checking on it for a couple of hours but have had enough and go to bed. So i wake up and start the launcher thinking i'll get in right away. Nope first it has to validate my files, then it downloads a patch and of course has to validate my files...again lol. |

Tasos now telling Beta testers to redownload game via torrent@ 9hrs
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/16/13 5:46:25 PM
I actually think making us all download the client is genius. It's just AV's way of having a staggered release. Congrats to Tasos for pulling it off i say.

Some of the Latest Bugs Still In as of the Last Day of Beta
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/15/13 3:26:16 AM
I played the last few days right up until the servers went down and didn't see any of this. I crashed once but i've also been playing Hitman and Bioshock and they both crashed on me. I played around with all the classes. I rerolled 4 times to check them all out. I harvested and crafted and farmed mobs and nothing bugged out or crashed. Only thing i cant comment on is hamlet cost or underwater thing. On the whole i've been surprised how smooth the game runs. I get over 100 fps at times. I thought i ran across a bug when after you finish 3 feats for the tutorial it just ends suddenly. I wondered what i had broken but it turns out that was just the end of it. I see all this talk of missing content yada yada yada but as a new player there is enough to learn i would't notice if it was in or not. |

What role will you start with at launch?

Enjoyed this amazing game that is... until today
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 4/15/13 2:53:14 AM
The only surprise is it took you 6 months. Took me less than 2. Left after leveling a mesmer, thief and ranger to 80 and had them all decked out in exotics. Was half way leveling an elementalist (got to 40) and just found zero motiviation to log back in one day. GW2 was quite a fun game it just feels like a fast food burger. Its really tasty and fills your belly but an hour later your hungry again. |

I've only just jumped into Darkfall but i'm liking it so far and the game runs way better than i thought it would watching youtube. The tutorial definately helps with the basics and the safe zone means i can get a feel for the game before wondering if that guy in the distance is some vet wanting to gank me. While i don't yet know the size of the safe zone surely all AV would have to do is make it so harvestable rares are located or more plentiful outside the zones and voila you have a good reason to leave them. I also think the population problems they will have is not enough server capacity once Darkfall releases on Steam. There will probably be regular injections of players through Steam sales as long as the game can keep a stable player base. |

The Repopulation: Monthly Patch Notes - April 1st Edition
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/01/13 4:19:17 PM
Removed all current AI from the game; instead of programming we will be using trained monkeys to generate a more unique and random sequence for PvE; Each player the monkey kills will earn it a banana. Expect to die often. Wish more mmo's would add such an awesome feature!!! |

Originally posted by adam_nox Its only melee who really need to build defense only. My lvl70 witch is a hybrid. I have as many points in cold damage and crit as i do in energy shield. My lvl63 2-hand marauder on the other hand is all hitpoints, armor and resistances. He actually doesn't even really need more damage but more survivability. |

If you have lore you could write a book and get it published. You could pick a game engine like Unity but there are loads to choose from and learn how to use it. Then maybe use kickstarter to get some funding once you have something put together to show your ideas. It may be an awesome idea but its now up to you to do something with it. You may fail, you may succeed, you will have set backs, you will need to be determined to see it through to have any chance of success. You will also need to ask for advice but i'd suggest finding a community of budding indie game developers rather than this forum where your more likely to be trolled than helped. Here is a list of forums you could look through. You will need to have realistic goals and learn how to set them. I'd say forget about making an mmo until you have some game development experience under your belt. Good luck anyway.
