I know how the OP feels. I want to like the game but botting and gold buying is ruining it for me. I see more and more people who are obvious gold buyers (equipped in full gold gear with +10 enchantments on them) while RMT sellers set up stores to promote their websites sitting around every major hub (yes they usually get banned but sometimes it can take a week which just makes people think their are no actually full time GM's on servers).

The economy on my server just reflects the amount of kinah these companies have introduced into the game. Buying gear off the broker is fast becoming unaffordable for casuals and with the harvesting bots its harder to find a source of income. I think the damage has been done now and im not sure it fixable tbh.

Wife = mum i am guessing.

I'm intrigued but something doesn't add up to me.

The campaign map consists of 64 hexes side by side i believe. With each hex an instance fought over by teams mainly made up of 10 vs 10. The map is persistent and the game has a single server. So that means 64 x 20 = 1280 people max who can play in these instances at any one time.

I'm obviously missing something?

No class choice is permanent.

Thats just not the feeling i am getting listening to the commentary. If they were going to have a lot more than just combat i'd imagine they would be promoting the heck out of it so as to differentiate their product from every other mmo. SW:TOR and how they emphasis story over everything else is an example.

For a 5 minute demo they could have included 10-20 seconds of something other than combat and it wouldnt be boring. Ship to ship combat where everyone is their own captain just doesnt appeal to me. I guess its not the Star Trek i envisage but i could be wrong .

Listening to the commentary makes me think they have no idea what a lot of Star Trek fans would really want in a mmo. Seems like they are mainly focusing on combat. I hope i'm wrong.

I hear ya, but in fairness games are about combat.  It is very difficult to do anything non combat that is not either entirely optional or just a side element.  Crafting for sure, maybe something Star Trek-ish like SWG's entertainers would offer alternatives but I have yet to see a game really figure out a way to have anything that amounts to gameplay that is not combat, directly or indirectly.

Well how about a scenario where a party of 4-6 beams down to a planet with 2 warring factions and if they have a diplomat they can try to negotiate a cease fire and thereby get access to rare resources or technology, if they fail they must fight there way off planet.

How about boarding a disabled ship and the engineer has to play a real time mini-game to access the computer systems for vital information while his team mates protect him from phaser fire. If your party doesnt have an engineer then you need to kidnap the captain of that ship for interrogation.

I'm all for combat but in the Star Trek universe there were good reasons for engaging in it and plenty of ways to avoid it.

thanks for great info. I have a question about pve. does Aion 1.5 has many end game pve ?   I worry pvp wont keep many players long. It happened on almost all pvp mmo games. but wow is still the one with huge population since its pve content is larger than other games.

Patch 1.5 introduced 12 new pve instances most of which were lvl50 i believe. Plenty of content for release.

Also, can anyone confirm if Chanters are able to serve as main healer for a group at endgame? Or are Clerics definitely preferred?

My understanding is clerics will be the main healing class with chanters more a hybrid class that buffs, dps's and throws in a couple of heals here and there. Clerics get way more heals, group heals and are the only priest who can cure/dispel.

Yeah maybe a bit inconvenance but if they set the servers up for the west coast time then i don't see a big problem happening. Just wait and see what happens.

The main issue is not the time but the jump in ping rates, I'll be looking at around 500-700 pings from australia to access a eastcoast server.

Well what would your ping rate be if you were on an EU server ?? Just an idea. And for some odd reason i thought NCsoft west servers were in Texas ?? Or was that just the beta ?

Australia connects to EU via the US so ping is even worse for us.

Funnily enough if the position was reversed and the US servers were based in Australia you'd be one of the first crying how unfair it was and how the world is gonna end.

Anyone have any info of the gold and silver medals awarded in fortress seiges you need to buy Abyss gear? I heard that only the top 10 people get medals and its based on damage. This could be false i'm just hoping someone here has an answer.

From my limited experience from C-Aion.

I only solo'ed in china (I was more into testing each class and finding which one was best for me).  I never took part in a fortress raid,  Only did one instance dungeon, Very little pvp to speak of (wanted to save it for NA). I made several lvl30+ chars.

With all that said I still got a few silver metals!!  I was in a chinese legion for a very short period and I think this is how I got the metals (Not sure really because it was so long ago).

Top ten and highest DPS'er does not sound right to me. I think it involves being in the guild and if you are in the party / parties that is attacking the fortress (there maybe rewards for just stright pvp kills also but not sure).

These medals are also sold in auction house, So if your not much into pvp and spend most of your time in pve or crafting there is an option to buy them.

I'm sorry there are so many holes in my reply but it's the best I could do.

Yeah i knew they sold on the broker but if only the top 10 dps on a fortress raid got them i imagine they would be expensive beyond belief. Good to hear you got some silver medals from somewhere besides a fortress seige. As a templar i just hate to hear that getting gear might be based on dps lol.

Cheers for info.

Combat just looked way too easy. There wasnt a single time from fighting low level scum to the jedi knight fight where you wondered would he win or not. I prefer more challenging combat personally and hope this isn't indicative of what it will be like on release.

I do not think some people will ever be satisfied..

Why should they be he makes a very valid point.

Combat did look exceptionally dull and boring and I second the opinion I really hope this isnt it at release and they where perhaps using OP'd demo chars or something.

Because if your taking down mobs like that all the time then its gonna get real boring real fast.

Might I suggest you never again play an MMO.

Or any video game for that matter.

Next up: Toolboxes complaing about air. IT SHOULD DO MORE.

Congrats on posting complete nonsense. Why not try and come up with a counter argument next time.

I agree combat will get old fast if its that easy. Any type of game will get boring if there isn't some type of challenge to it. When i first starting playing FPS i only played against the AI till i got bored with beating it too easy and now i prefer actual people to play against since it is more of a challenge. This applies to mmo's for me. Played them for years so i prefer them to be more challenging not less.

So lets all settle for mediocrity..

Sex sells isnt exactly new. Its used to sell just about anything you can think of and has been for a long time.

I like women as much as any red blooded male but if i bought everything i saw that featured breasts or suggestive imagery then i'd be in so much debt lol. With such an abundance of advertising i'm not sure how much sinks in as i know i just switch off to most forms of it now. Sure i still look at big billboards with sexy models but i wouldnt have a clue what product they are trying tp push.

And of course the main reason we get so much sex is advertising is a male dominated industry but they have evolved over the years to target women and children a lot more while the gaming publicity industry is still in its infancy.

Money isnt the problem imo its the management of this company. It reminds me of Vanguard in how no amount of money and talent and good ideas can make up for bad management.

My guild still has a couple members in WAR but they will be joining us in Aion now. I suspect IF Aion is successful it will pull more people away from WAR.

I very much doubt WAR will see large increases in population in the future and the best they can hope is to keep existing customers. No-one i know who played WAR has any interest in ever going back now.

There will be plenty of groups as the main story/quest line can only be completed by groups (you need to kill elite mobs).

No. At lvl48 you get an aoe taunt that fears 4 opponents for 4 seconds but otherwise taunt is pretty useless in PvP.
