Came up with a bit better of a sports analogy for sandbox games and SWG (something considering I'm not that crazy about sports). It's more like having the tools needed to play a variety of sports and one can either use the tools to play a game as it was intended (example: master a single profession), choose skills one likes from various sports to learn (mix and match professions), or take the tools from various sports and combine them to make a totally different game (saw a few different aquariums in people's houses although there was no "aquarium" piece of furniture, saw fireplaces long before one became a vet reward, many creative people designing houses by putting pieces of things together to create something new).

Some people may enjoy playing ball so being given all the necessities to play basketball brings them to the game, but the ability to draw that face and talk to it brings in other players who don't care about basketball...and someone who wants to play basketball bad enough will find a way/the supplies needed if given the ball, even if it means improvising. |

Rumor Buster: SoE not in it JUST for the money!

People say that SWG is over 3 years old and to give new games a chance. I've given several games "a chance" and would love to find one that I liked as much as or more than I liked SWG in its pre-CU state. Here are the things I'm looking for in such a game and I pretty much want ALL these features in a MMO: 1. the ability to mix and match skills/professions using skill trees 2. entertainer profession of some sort that has meaning (people basically have to go visit the entertainers) 3. trade/crafting professions that can exist without being a weapon weilding profession too (unlike WoW where crafting is a secondary profession and basically worthless) 4. a combination of clothing and armor with TONs of choices through designs and colors 5. a wide choice in character creation, not just is species but the ability to use sliders to determine size and shape of almost every feature of the character 6. a lack of skill level on the character 7. the ability to get xp from any level of critter one kills (not just talking 1 point either) 8. a wide selection of things to do/kill with some things being difficult enough to need a group of elite professions and others being soloable by noobs 9. something to do once one has finished mastering one's professions (what jedi was in SWG, doesn't need to be a super profession but a reason to continue to earn xp) 10. player cities that can meet a person's every need for the game combined with server cities that can do the same 11. PvP as a choice not forced upon the player (I did like when they took away TEF as a means to "pvp") 12. the ability to just pick up a weapon and just go enjoy the game or to be "hardcore" figuring out the best weapons and the best professions for the job 13. an adjustable, easy to read HUD along with easy to create waypoints and easy to find missions (took that little arrow and beam of light for granted until I tried to play a game that didn't have any indicator of where to go next) 14. lots of emotes along with the ability to make emotes of one's own 15. plenty of ways to communicate with others 16. ease of finding a good guild (goes back to the entertainer bit for me, became member of guilds in SWG because of meetings that took place in a cantina between my ents and the guild's leader) There are probably other features too but this is a good start to my list |

What it would be like if classic servers were offered...
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 10/21/06 5:14:19 PM
It would be like starting over from scratch. No player cities/buildings/guilds/etc. People would have to think back to the first moment they played...when they didn't have the money to afford all they things they became "spoiled" to. It is possible to play the game without buffs, it just means relying on groups. I personally think it would be fun to start on a server from scratch with a brand new toon. That's one of the reasons why I wouldn't want server transfers to be a part of the deal. |

WoW may be the 600 lb gorilla but it gets boring in a hurry. I played WoW for less than 2 months, played it ONLY after NGE hit, and I played SWG for around 2 years total and would have played it a lot longer if SOE hadn't made such a huge mistake by totally changing the game they had in order to chase after the WoW numbers. I hope the wanna-be-WoW-clones ends soon. I'm still hoping for a MMO that compares to what pre-cu was.

Will re-implementing pre-NGE features make you want to resub?
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 10/18/06 1:37:12 PM
Old guildie was just telling me about the features being added/brought back so it got me thinking what would get me to go back. Basically it would be bringing back ALL the old professions with the same mix and match trees and the old style of combat..."classic" is the quickest way to get me back....and SWG may be "old" but there is still not another game like pre-cu. |

Ok so they do not like logic on the SOE boards

Ah, the fun of letting it "slip" in game what one did in rl just to see how the younger set would react. /evilgrin /innocent |

WoW quickly became "WOW! this is boring..." Games that rely heavily on leveled quest based grinding become boring quickly (at least the ones I've experienced). In WoW, it didn't matter which race and what profession you chose, if you started grinding multiple characters you soon found yourself doing the same set of quests over and over again. In a pre-cu world, I could grind the same prof more than once and not do it the same way.

The new giveway from the new trial: XP bonuses
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 10/14/06 9:36:35 PM
$29.99 Value? The Total or Starter Kit or whatever it's called (with all the expansions) is going for $19.99. Plus, aren't they worried about what this will do to their sales of Complete? Or are they just worried about getting the sub number as high as they can before they have to give their next report?

The first place I found out about SWG was in OXM (Official XBox Mag) after an E3...maybe it wasn't OXM but the game was suppose to be coming out for XBox...one of the reasons I didn't buy SWG earlier was I was holding out for the XBox version. Supposedly the reason it didn't go to console had something to do with sales not being what they'd expected.
