Still, I am surprised to see WoW on there. "Most improved" should be games that were floundering before. |

Originally posted by Wizardling6 You know what? I do that stuff. I'm not an internet idiot. I'm a Network Management student. I still got hacked somehow. Gold selling makes big bucks. Stealing accounts is a highly effective way of getting gold fast to sell. They've got some clever people working for them... |

Originally posted by DevilXaphan Got hacked once myself. In my case, I got an email notice about "unauthorized access" and found my password had been changed. I went through the process of getting the account back only to find someone had put an authenticator on it, too. Fortunately, it was pretty simple to get that removed. I downloaded the authenticator app for my iPhone and set it to my account. The account had been inactive for 6 months. I have no clue how someone could have gotten into it. I have script blockers on my browser and don't download strange programs from sites I don't trust, and scan the hell out of the ones I download from sites I do trust. A couple months after getting my account back, I get another email from Blizzard. Apparently the people who hacked it had also payed for a month...then reversed the charge. Now Blizzard says I owe for that month before I can reopen my account. I was gonna come back to try the expansion, but I suppose Blizzard can go screw themselves now... |

City of Heroes: Breaking: Layoffs Hit Paragon Studios
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/07/10 9:27:22 PM
Originally posted by Aguitha $40 was only if you bought the "complete edition", which was the expansion plus basic account. Targetted at new players. Just the expansion was $30. Note, however, that the complete edition came with a free month of play even if you already had an account, so it was effectively cheaper than just the expansion ( $40-$15=$25 )... |

Originally posted by Robsolf Indeed you have. Pistols and demon summoning. I think a new melee set is in there as well. Plus, the morality system with the side-switching is only available with the expansion. And some other stuff. Try actually going to the website and reading about the expansion... |

Originally posted by Forgeknight Yeah, it will. If you'd been following the discussion on their forums about it, it's already been shown how easy it is to get around the settings to hide your name in your profile. So, piss someone off in-game, they can look you up on the website and still find your RL info. |

Originally posted by Hyanmen I don't mind them "having a spine". But on this issue, they're being HUGELY irresponsible. Forcing people do display their real life information creates massive opportunities for identity thieves and hackers. As was very aptly demonstrated when one of the CMs posted his real name in response to the complaints. |

World of Warcraft: No Subscription Fee....at Some Point
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/01/10 9:39:08 AM
Originally posted by Seffren Not entirely true. LotRO is going ftp not because it's "becoming/is crap", but because going ftp turned DDO from a failing game into a smashing success. No subscription fee + microtransactions ( "Free to play" or "f2p" is a bit of a misnomer, but simpler ) is becoming more and more viable these days, and even looking more profitable than the traditional subscription fee format. Why do you think so many f2p games have cropped up these days? Because the system WORKS. And extremely well. |

Champions Online: Launch Day Patch Stirs Uproar
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/02/09 12:32:29 PM
People are blowing the changes way out of proportion. The changes aren't that bad. The numbers on paper look a lot worse than they are. And the outcry? No worse than what you see with every patch on the WoW forums. In fact, I'd go as far as to say significantly less than that. The trolls are just having their field day. They expected "superheor" meant "godmode" and are mad to see they were wrong. |

Servers cost money to maintain. Support crew costs money. Development costs money. Guildwars manages to run for free because it's not a "true" MMORPG (They even admit to this themselves). The instancing reduces the server load MASSIVELY. It's basically a pretty Diablo 2 in terms of how the game is hosted. Most of the load is client-side. Additionally, GW's expansions pay the upkeep cost. Not to mention GW doesn't have anywhere near the support staff that WoW does.
Besides, they're in this to make money. Why would they want to lose 8,000,000*$15/month? |
