I would have to disagree here. The update contains massive changes to some of the existing content and a lot of the systems surrounding it like items, classes, PvP, and etc. I think Avery has already quoted a number of the preliminary changes that reflect those systems and content being changed or even added to the game. Granted, I guess that goes on to how you view system changes and upgrading existing content. The update itself is updating the RPG system which means almost every item, some abilities, and buffs are effected. Thus balance plays a heavy roll in this update on so many ends.

I have not refuted that 1.05 is a large game changing patch, see post #163 to join into this branch of the thread that you are only responding to the tail end of.

Your comments are welcome.

I like how you in your great understanding of the cosmos deign to us what is to be and not to be posted on these forums. Fan vids are perfectly acceptable here. If you believe otherwise you owe the universe a refund, to be paid in large quantities of oxygen.

I have never seen an eye-candy Fan Vid posted in this section generate a game discussion (the stated purpose of this forum).  Only "Ohh Cool! ... Shiny" type replies.

Game play or strategy vids,  are totally appropriate and encouraged.  But " My AoC Multiple Beheading Music Video " can stay on YouTube, they don't serve any function here.

You saw it as an advertisement. I saw it as a fan made video. Difference of opinion.

And if the OP had edited his comments there is no doubt you would have called him out for editing his comments.

And thiis forum is not a Fan Site.  As I said there are many places where posting fan vids are welcomed and appropriate.

You have never seen me slam anyone for admitting they made a mistake.

This is a discussion forum, fan vids, fan fiction, guild progression, server firsts, gold advertising, game adverting, marketing, etc. Do not belong in this section.

If that is what you took away from his explanation, there is certainly something wrong.

@: rest of thread

As if it is a new thing for a fan video to have copyrighted material in it, the video itself could be considered pirated, or are we all to think he did the CG to!  People around here need to seriously grow up.

I don't think the video is the true issue, it's the manner in which it was represented to the community here. the OP could have edited his comments to what he claimed it was, when it turned out not to be the case, instead he got miffed when people called him on it.

Let alone that this is a discussion forum, not a fan site or the proper format for player made tribute videos. The video does not even show any actual game play, just eye candy. There are a ton of places on the WWW where that is appropriate post, unfortunately this isn't one of them.. And someone got caught here trying to use it as an advertisement. (Also the wrong outlet for that kind of endeavor)

The second character I made for WoW took me the equal amount of time to top level as people generally suggested, that was on a PvP server. But wait this was not WoW.

So what is the positive behind leveling on a PvE server that would make you have an advantage when moving to a PvP. Atleast I would actually like to see your view or explenation on it.

My OP makes no comparison between WoW and AoC in any regards. I mentioned a Blizzard policy that used to exist not allowing a character leveld on a PvE server to transfer to a PvP server.

As for why their policy existed, it was thought to be an unfair advantage to level and collect gear in an environment where it was considerably less difficult and time consuming to do so because of the constant PvP element during all un-instanced game play.

Is this advantage as large in AoC as in WoW, not gear wise (yet). The FFA mechanics in AoC does make progression an issue. As I suggested, re-roll on a PvP server,  one where you have no friends / no guild / no cash / no 'twink gear' to mail to yourself.  When you start hitting the first FFA areas and find the well established players with their 'nub killer alt squads' waiting for you I think the ability to ''transfer' around that is a big advantage.

Do I think any of this matters to the people on the servers listed with free transfers? Not at the moment, their biggest concern seems to be that their servers lack players and they wish they had folks to play with. Beggars can't be Choosers as they say.

Seems silly to have to take the time to explain the difference in experiences between the two rule-sets, if you have played other  MMOs with PvP specific servers you should already know these answers.

Beg your pardon but I would hardly call 7 patches in 2 weeks or so slow. They are significant changes.

Please keep on topic and you are already discouraged from 11 months ago and your here because.... so I don't see really the bearance of the in assuming the same thing is what you call " happening again" different team altogether on the whole. From the quest designer to others whom never worked on AO.

Difference is there has always been more ppl working on AoC at anyone time than their other games. Patch 1.05 has seen more updates to it than any other. I suggest you goto the test server forums and be more informed.

I read the last 7, it's 'tweaks'

The  'new' PF mentioned  is not new, posters on the official forums commented on being able to circumvent the 'invisible walls' around that PF since launch and walk the empty zone.

Working as directed by the exact same company.

I am pretty sure you have absolutely no way of knowing that other than taking their word for it. FunCom has fostered a reputation where their 'word' is spurious at best.

AoC's development cycle has slowed down dramatically, and it's not for lack of things that need fixes / revamps. 1.05's content hardly reflects the man-hours of the claimed 120+ people x 3+ months, there just isn't enuff there.

Have fun waiting on a dev cycle that puts out product every 3-4-5 months. At that rate it will take them a few years to fill all the big holes the game still has.

Watching the slow trickle of minor tweaks added to this patch every couple of weeks makes it appear that the 120+ staff FC claimed to  still be working on AoC have been scaled back significantly.  Seems like FC went with the AO strategy again, shrink the team and slow down the dev cycle, use the sub money and the majority of the staff to dev the next product in the pipe.

It's pretty discouraging to watch this happen again. It's gonna be ugly when they do launch their next MMO and all but abandon this title like they did their last. The only difference is AO had two expansions and 4-5 years before it was neglected, it's not looking like AoC will be so 'lucky'.

Were those 4 servers made especially so that players that speak the same languages can play on one server?....That's the way I took it...I could be incorrect. If this is the case then Non-english speaking players are NOT relevant to the point. I thought the point was the AoC pop was suffering and thus server mergers (again...i can be wrong...tell me I won't cry) ...but it seems ...from what I read...they are leveling out the crowded EU servers by offering 4 language specific servers for non- english speaking players to play with eachother,,and a free transfer as well..sounds like a good thing.

Server Merges forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php   January 9th, 2009

German 6 into 3 (1 pr ruleset), French 4 into 3 (1 pr ruleset), Spanish 2 un-changed (no RP ruleset)

Server Transfers forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php  January 21st, 2009

Chance to get off of a Dead Server

Of those 8, 4 are now suffering from Low Population (3 are PvP, both Spanish are having a problem),  forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

Downside:  Hard to play End Game PvP without enough players. Upside: You don't ever need to re-take / re-build your Battle Keep

No one has mentioned that the servers at the top are non English speaking servers, I wonder why.

What?? Title says Europe, the original post lists the servers with their languages, Crashloop mentioned it, Barteaux mentioned it, Davit mentioned it. Do you read threads before you post in them?

So what is your point ? Are you trying to say that Non-English speaking player communities aren't relevant? FunCom used to think so, they did go to the trouble of publishing the game as well as providing GM support in those languages.

you do know the audio is taken from that right?

(made it a linky for you)

Good Catch.

I am not impressed anymore.

So much for Avery and his "The voice over goes with his story in game ... <he> has many RP premises, stories and interaction on his RP server and on the forums." statement.

Seems I was right in my assessment that it was a commercial, someone else's commercial.

any idea when cross server minigames may come?

The 'should have had' list is super long, and coding that one will take a company like FunCom a long time. Doubt you'll be seeing that anytime soon.

I'll give the guy credit, he is talented, he made the game look a thousand times more interesting than it really is. I guess that is why it seems like a commercial.

But my reall question is what does posting this video have to do with the "General Discussion" of the Age of Conan, maybe this post belongs in the Guild Hall section of these forums or another place that is more appropriate?

If I remember you have not gained a PvP kill for exp, ever, right?

Wrong again,  they turned off the PvP right before the full retail launch and didn't turn it back on  till many months later.

Did you post the correct link? I didn't see any RP, just a commercial for AoC.

How it is unfair to level a guy on a PvE server and xfer to a PvP server?

Do I really have to explain to you the difference of leveling on a PvP server??

Better yet re-rolll on a PvP server and see how fast you progress threw White Sands

Btw Avery you saw I posted the links to the original threads, so your famous cut and paste wall of text is once again redundant. even with angry green highlights.

forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

Quote from Tarib

"We initially had planned to have paid character transfers to all servers. But we took a closer look and also listened to feedback from players regarding some servers and their need to get more players to ensure better gameplay and a livelier community."

Free character transfers are possible to the following servers:

* Aries (German PvP)
* Ferox (French PvP)
* Zingara (Spanish PvE)
* Indomitus (Spanish PvP)

In most MMOs PvP players resent letting characters that were leveled on a PvE server join their ranks, dunno if it's still the case but WoW did not allow transfers from PvE to PvP servers because of the unfair leveling / gearing advantage.

The US Players aren't too happy that they have to pay for transfers. forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

AoC = good graphix but very shallow game play, made for super casual players. The game is going threw a revamp / overhaul currently (well, the patch isn't live and has been on test for 3+ months).

There is a free trial, and you can find the game box for $5 (un-opened) and time cards for 50% of their face value on places like E-Bay.

So you can decide for yourself, keep in mind that the leveling curve is super short compared to the other games you have mentioned and the current players No.1 Complaint is the lack of End Game content. Also the PvP  is a poor attempt to copy WoW system and isn't fully fleshed out by comparison. Also make sure you check the official forums before choosing a server or you may end up picking one with almost no population left.

So I just went to Funcom's site to cancel my account. I thought I had until midnight today to do so, but then found out to my chagrin that their billing cycle for US servers is still in European time.

I couldn't find any info to the contrary, so I had assumed that billing was on Eastern Standard Time, just like NEARLY EVERY OTHER MMO with dedicated US servers.

I'm sorry to rant, but the least they could do is make it clear that billing for US servers is not on US time. Yes, I know I should have cancelled earlier but work and home life got in the way.

Is this something I should pursue with customer service? Does Funcom even respond to customer complaints? I had just wanted to cancel for a month or two because of my crazy summer schedule. Depending on how Funcom responds  I might be gone for good.

Delete your CC details from your account profile, FC has a nasty habit of charging you again even after you have cancelled.

Side note, for curiosity sake check your CC statement, FC have have charged your next month a few days before you were up for renewal, quite a few people have reported that occuring.

we obviously aren't playing the same game.  i've rolled 5 toons now and NEVER do they wear the same gear even by the time you leave tortage.  you clearly don't know how to play the game. That doesn't surprise me at all.

Itemization (especialy lack of variety) is top two of the most common criticisms made by players on the official forums all year, only beat out by complaints about lack of end game content. So please, feel free to head on over to that forums and explain to everyone there that they 'clearly don't know how to play the game'. I am sure you'll be warmly welcomed.

P.S. several of the AoC animations are horrid ... the jumping animation is down right comical.
