Originally posted by Kyleran Ya can pretty much end the thread with this one. It's a fun ride to Transylvania, but with almost all the content being repeatable, every character able to have full access to every skill and there being such a miniscule difference between the content of the factions, there's not much reason to reroll. They may as well allow you to reset the main story so you can do it, again. I'd like to run every piece back to back so as to fully understand the context. But before I'd reroll a new toon and labor through the content I've already done a half dozen times, I'll just watch somebody else go through it on youtube. |

Arenanet really needs to stop thinking they the law
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 10/08/12 8:22:38 AM
Originally posted by BTrayaL This. It's their game. Their forums. They are the law. Normally, Anet would have removed the thread or just copied it to the original. But in the OP's post, the OP openly admitted to starting a new thread despite the fact that a thread had already been created on the subject. That in itself violates the CoC. In the OP's comments here, they noted that they made their post with the idea of nagging Anet until they provide an answer that he/she would accept. Hopefully they understand that badgering others is also against the CoC. |

How do you take a great IP and make a bad game?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/02/12 2:35:30 PM
Originally posted by Quirhid This right here. While there are probably other reasons IP games are often substandard, a pre-established IP ties the hands of a game developer in many respects. Take LotRO, for example. Imagine if Turbine put Griffon rides in there... or even worse; a Great Eagle taxi system... What if they wanted to create an Asuran type race? Or some steampunk type technology? What if they wanted to have a whole zone based on something like "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks"? Turbine would be "shoot on sight" for LotR fans. Meanwhile, games like Rift, WoW, and many others could do it without a problem. |

Other than the annoyance of wasting time trying to find a way into the zone when there isn't one, I don't get the issue. If GW2's map was a diminuitive little thing like DDO was at launch, I'd be upset. But the traversable map is MONSTROUS, and the idea that all those chunks here and there might open up in the future is just pure geekgasm. |

This seems an ill contrast compared to the stories about the older expacs, people would line up at midnight for their copy, even for Cat, despite their not even needing to. Even with electronic sales excluded, I think it's fair to say that WoW is now officially in decline. Nothing to be ashamed of; it was inevitable, and it's been a good run. Fun was had, and no doubt money was made. But nothing lasts forever. Far as the GW2 vs. WoW argument goes, that's a dumb argument, anyway. This isn't football; WoW doesn't have to lose for GW2 to win, or vice versa. Nor does one losing mean that the other is winning. They're both games. I bought GW2, and while I skipped out on MoP, Blizzard has gotten a share of my money in the past and it was well earned. |

The game is pretty much dead currently

Yep. They need to be planning F2P... like, yesterday.

That's why this "sports team mentality" I see toward games drives me nuts. I have to wade through a sea of absolute BS in order to get to information that might matter to me. |

Does it bother you that people reach endgame in a couple of days?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/26/12 12:23:32 PM
Originally posted by Sylvarii ...and the next non-kin player to ask for a ride to Rivendell without AT LEAST covering the cost of my travel rations is gonna be the last one I help. But on topic... in the case of a game like DCUO which is pathetically content lite, yes, it would bother me. But if there's at least 80 hours of "main playthrough" in a game with a number of other things to do as well, including a solid crafting system, then no. That doesn't bother me. Aside from DCUO, I've yet to see an MMO where you can come close to completing the content in a couple days. Now, should I choose to scrape away the coyness surrounding the question and understand it's a thinly veiled criticism of GW2 and the fact that some folks manage to craft much of their way to 80, I say, I absolutely do not give a crap due to the way the game is designed.

If you can get bored in GW2, especially after having played it and enjoyed it in beta, I'd say you're probably burnt out. For me, I can certainly feel the potential for GW2 to cause a burnout. From launch all the way to about 4 days ago, I devoted ALL my free time to it. I've recently reminded myself that I'm NOT in a G-D hurry; I didn't buy the game to have it take over my life. I bought it to have something to play when my sub based MMO starts getting dull, but instead it's totally taken over. Anyhoo, if you don't want to play, then don't. There's nothing to "quit". You just don't play til' you feel like playing, again. |

I love GW2, and MoP wasn't for me, but that can't stop me from saying that this is an obnoxious bait thread if'n I ever saw one. "cool people play GW2?" Seriously? Quaggan thinks otherwise! Seriously, enjoy your game and let others enjoy theirs. And stop pretending there's an MMO "cool people" play.

Enjoying GW2, and looking forward to LotRO RoR. I don't understand the GM vs. Ford, Beatles vs. Elvis mentality that some folks have. Why on earth can a person not appreciate 2 good things?

[Column] The Secret World: The Darkest Evening of the Year
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/19/12 8:39:35 AM
Layoffs or not, the "monthly release" scheme was doomed to fail. Just as it was in DCUO, and many older games. Strict, arbitrary release times just don't work. Particularly monthly releases, which are just FAR too short a time period to plan, code, and test new content. What's more, it discourages bigger ideas that make take a quarter or even a year to build. The urge to just get stuff out there now-now-now stifles pulls development resources from these bigger items like zone and inventory overhauls, and puts them on task for getting the month's content out. |

Originally posted by GrumpyCharr At higher levels it feels like Skyrim, to me, as you can wander all over the map and find a challenge. The big difference in this respect is that your level is lowered to match an area but not raised; whereas Skyrim just matches the game world to you. Obviously the Skyrim method wouldn't be feasible in any MMO without having heavily sharded areas(areas instance matched to your level, or having advancement become trivial(your level matched to the area, higher or lower). Again, I said it FEELS like Skyrim to me for those reasons and a handful of others, but I wouldn't go nearly as far as to say that it's LIKE Skyrim. It still uses a UI bar interface which makes combat much different. It uses tab targeting, though other creatures in the attack radius will still be damaged if ya wave yer sword at 'em. And you have much more control over your advancement in Skyrim than you do in GW2. But as far as the world you're in is concerned and how you go about traveling it, I feel alot of similarities. Anybody that says GW2 is small, even when compared to Skyrim, is smoking some serious crack. I'm not sure that Skyrim is the size, area, or quest content of even half of GW2. The biggest cities in Skyrim are maybe between 1 and 2 slices of the Divinity's Reach pie, sizewise. And the other races in GW2 have their own good sized cities. With either game, like Loke said, the word "sandbox" is a stretch. Skyrim is more "sandbox" than GW2 due to your open advancement, but hey, TSW has open advancement, too. That doesn't make it a sandbox. So, OP, I guess it depends on what appeals to you most about Skyrim. If it's the big world and how every bit of it is still available and useful to you as you advance, GW2 could well be down your alley. If it's the character advancement or the combat, GW2 is basically an improved (IMO) MMO system whose choice is based as much on the weapon type(s) you choose as much as your class.

Glad ya like it, OP. As a huge Tolkein fan, I went from trialing it 3 times in the first year or so and "yell at the monitor" hating it, to it being the longest I've been subscribed to a game. Read that again: I went from not being able to stand playing it for free in the trial, to being a devoted subscriber even when there's a free to play option. There are alot of reasons for that, but the biggest I can say in the time that I have is I can answer the question: "After I figured it all out I feel that yes, I could live here."
