I love how the OP keeps talking about the glory of the minstrel, but doesnt seem to go into any details, or explain why minstrels are such a great healing class.

how bought this OP...with ur little minstrel go into a raid, and do grp heals as much as possible, know what ur gunna do? get insane amounts of aggro AND use up all your power. the grp AOE heal is the biggest power waster.

I can beat the balrog with only using aoe grp heal maybe 2 times

One things for sure Lotro sure did get it right with their "Minstrel Class" a total joy to play and loads of fun too , but as I said in my post WAR just does'nt have it and it needs to be addressed, some one said about keeping an ey on group and dishing out heals as necassary ..... well I tell you what in most case when everyone is is getting their Asses handed to em by Imbalanced Destruction Ganking, then its nearly impossible to heal without group heals I don care what anyone says ... as I said about Lotro most groups only need one Minstrel to be succesful in WAR to get anywhere you need about three healers in every group .... and even then the overpowered Destruction Gankers just  head straight for the Healers .

ooh I'm on one today

umm if you knew anything about how to be a healer.....

first off the minstrels AOE grp heal is terrible to use too much because of aggro (in END GAME raids that is) and also if your a REAL healer, grp heals are only used if direly needed.

I really like this post.

Being a fairly new father (my daughter is 7 months old) I have noticed the exact same thing.

I still want to take these MMO's seriously, and talk about em, strategies or w/e...but lately I find it harder and harder to even make myself log on.

its like...either play some games....or actually spend time helping another life grow and develop..it might seem obvious..."well spend time with your kid dumbass" but sadly this concept of spending time with your kids over gaming is really popular. In fact morre and more parents are caught, spending more time on games then their children, and sadly some children even have died.

We need to worry about raising our children, working hard to help our economy, and get outside.

Then MAYBE at then end of the day, a little 1-2 hour MMO session

If you are to imagine WAR six months or a year from now - what would it look like?

My wish list:

1) larger overall server population cap

2) better balance between the realm populations, DUH

3) better animations, synchronized with cast bar

4) Scenario wait times sorted out

5) Quirks like randomly missing health bar sorted out

6) Scenario-wide or region-wide in-game voice chat

7) Improvements in keep sieging so they are harder to take and will not fall when Destruction zergs you ten minutes after you've captured it.

8) Mob and pet aggro quirks, animations, getting stuck, etc.

These points are, I think, fairly minor and entirely fixable - it's just a matter of time. They are not problems with the core concepts of the game. (Though fixing 1 and 2 is, I think, easier said than done).

What might not be fixable are, IMO, problems with the basic design concepts of the game. I.e. the lack of "soul" or the feeling of a "world." OK, you may disagree, but I think more and more of us are starting realize that the PvE portion of the game is vastly, vastly inferior to this other game we know. Yes, I do feel the sense that I'm in a war. But you know what, that other game made me feel more than just that: there was a sense of variety - many interesting atmosphere and stories, whereas the only atmosphere in WAR is war war cannons hacking slashing dying war war - which I gather is the point but also becomes extremely bland and simpleminded after a while.

Scenarios: the problem is that they detract considerably from any kind of atmosphere because you can instantly be plucked out of this world and placed into another. Also they don't bring anything new to the table. No coordination. No communication. Little healing. If everyone is just allowed to do scenarios all the time - then what's the point of having the "real" world anyway? Why not just make WAR a bunch of mini-games like Guild Wars. I really hope that other game doesn't adopt the queue-from-anywhere approach in their Wrath of the Beatle Queen expansion.

In order for a pvp-based game to be fun, you need to have good players. Players who understand their class, how to win that particular scenario or siege, and, most importantly, how to COMMUNICATE. Unfortunately, only a small fraction of MMO players are at that level of skill or intelligence. Which is why the whole thing may not hang together.

FINALLY, I wish they would think about making sieging keeps more impactful and long-term, so that capturing one is more than simply a matter of gathering a large group to zerg. Capturing and relinquishing should be rarer events, even in the lower tiers. It should take CONSIDERABLE effort to coordinate an attack, and once taken, more NPCs and defensive mechanisms should be present to prevent it from being retaken. I.e. an uncoordinated pick-up zerg groups should not be able to storm your keep ten minutes after you have captured it.

Basically I just want to hear your wish-list of what they ought to fix in six months or a year. Plus any comments on whether the overall direction established thus far is actually going to work int the long-term. As for me, I've enjoyed my short-stay and will be going back to that other game to fight the Beatle Queen.

Oops I guess what im saying here is that getting 40 will be alot quicker than it is in WoW to get to 70 and fully geared. Im seeing that WAR will have alot more people in the end game sooner than most MMO's. Im just curious to see what else will it offer. Correct me if I'm wrong if getting to 40 will take longer than I think. Seems it will be just as fast as AoC was. Will this make people leave? or do they have other things that will keep people interests.

Well....ummm.....what "people" are you referring to? Its a very general question that no-one can possibly answer. How can anyone predict what every player of Warhammer is going to do once they reach the top?

It depends on the type of player doesnt it. The kind of player that plays WoW for years after reaching the end, doing the same stuff over and over again will probably do the same with Warhammer. The kind of player who gets bored with repitition will probably leave and play something else. Warhammer offers more as "end content" than WoW does because you can continually lay seige to the enemies cities and raid all the zones and there is more purpose to it as the game is built around the concept. Its Waaarrrrrr!!!!!

So wait, WAR is better than WoW in that it's endgame is repeatable and repetitive just like WoW's is?

PVP/RVR or PVE doesn't matter-- you're still doing the same old thing over and over.

Fanboy platitudes like this are why bad games continue to be made. Not that I think WAR is a bad game, but really. It's like you didn't even think about what you were actually saying before you spat it out.

RvR continually changes, PvE dungeons are always exactly  the same static encounters.

The only thing that changes are the names on your screen, and over a long enough period of time they will all blur and become one faceless mass, with the exception of a few talented individuals.

I do hope your joking? I mean...for the sake of your credibility.

well with the marauder (sp?) you really need to play tactically if you want to survive, because frankly they can do amazing damage and debuffs. But basically you can run into no mans land like a tank and expect to live.

as for the magus, they own.....just gotta l2p them.

as for engineer...dunno really...as a witch elf I own them but they might be underpowered...maybe a HP/dmg buff on their turrets to balance them out?

T1 in WAR is by far (in my opinion) the most engaging, epic first 11 levels EVER.

as a dark elf, around level 2-3 your first PQ is a epic dragon fight, chaos? I giant demon...you feel epic, your gear looks tight and its a slower leveling process then most, the quests are meaningful and you feel your there for purpose.

Massmarket stuff is never the best, its just built to appeal to the mass

And Niche games can only occur because there are people who will hate what everyone else loves.  We get it, it's cool to hate untra-successful things.

WOW  10.9 Million paying subscribers,  Warhammer .5Million accounts created.

And this isn't McDonald's vs Steak debate since both games cost the same amount.  This is more like McDonald's vs Arbys.

WAR's low numbers actually doesn't come from the game itself, but from everyone buying into AoC's hype and being let down. That's the biggest factor of WAR's lower numbers at launch.

However, please only count NA and Euro subscribers for WoW, as the asian market's total payout is substantially less per person. WoW is not the largest subscribed MMO though, despite what many of you may think hahaha. It's just the largest INTERNATIONAL one.

I'm pretty sure most people who are sticking with WoW still have computers from 2002 and just don't want to give up their characters they've worked so hard to get items for, which make their characters because there is only one way to advance in the game once you hit max level and that is through items. What a horrible treadmill of linear and non-skill based advancement.

what are you talking about?

to get T6 gear, and raid the new sunwell area...takes so much friggin time and effort you have no idea.

WoW is home to the hardest raiding in MMO's. Thats a fact for sure

Maybe old EQ raids could compare but thats about it

so how is progressing in gear non-skill based when it takes a lot of dedication to get down boss fights and win.

umm shadowbane has one of the most interesting crafting and building systems in any MMORPG

IF you lead a guild, and started a city, or were a high ranking member of a guild you would understand.

The NPC craftsmen in player cities have their own levels and tiers, races and skills.

There are guild controlled mines, which produce resources.

With these materials you use the NPC to create armor, weapons, magic items ect.

The BEST OF THE BEST items in the game are actually crafted this way

I have a blog exactly on this.

In my opinion people expect way to much from MMORPG's when they are RELEASED

people forget that MMO's are a growing thing.

now we got 10 year olds raised on ps2 complaining about everything they possibly can.

and of course the obvious trolls who havent even played the game, and are basing their comments off videos and screen shots.

the mmo community used to be smaller with less idiots, now since wow has brought in so many into the genre, we are naturally going to get a lot of fools who dont know what they are talking about, or the first steps towards making a mmorpg work.

its a blessing but a curse. WoW has raised the genre to a new level, but with that come lots of idiots.

Well I'll keep this as simple as possible. First off WAR is NOT a WoW straight clone. Mostly because theres alot of differences. One the classes don't play the same. In order to really enjoy a class you have to learn about it and learn to play it. Oh and if you didn't know WoW and WAR are mortal enemies, yeah so a WoW player playing WAR is like being a WoW traitor to some.

Two the play-style and concept of the RvR and the way the levels play is way different than WoW.

I feel that WoW is actually too simplified in the way of game-play, its always just point click click click win/loose re-spawn and repeat. I mean dam and people say working in a factory is repetitive lol.

Anyway the main point here is this, if you don't like a game and you at least give it a good tryout then don't go running to the forums to say "eh this game suck" or " Its so gehy" I mean geeze if ya don't like it just say hey I gave it a shot and didn't care for it then play what ya like.

I dont see why people play games they hate just to complain to other players that they think it sucks, like the people who will play it care. Trust me noone cares that ya hate a game because your not famous not manny know you and true fans will play no matter what. Case in point look at games like AoC or EQ2 or hell even GW or CoH/CoV, those being just a few. People have said they suck and yet look they still have people playing them and liking it. Proof that no matter how much you complain or insult the game no one will listen and if they do its to find things to make fun of you for. Oh and speaking of fools lol yes for those who have read the AoC forum I fixed the issue i was having and apologize.

HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED WARHAMMER?

What are you talking about?! omg WAR's combat is 100% similar to WoW, to LOTRO, to EQ2, to VG.....

your making fun of wow for point and click, maybe try playing warhammer before you say stuff like that

after beta testing war for months now I wont be buying it due to the terrible polish, and due to the gameplay being sub-par to WoW, and even LOTRO

oh and RVR is just like WoW's open world pvp system

sit on a control point until its controled, defend it. Or the other side will. OOOH thats PVP at its best
