Just for the reccord, I wasn't saying you can't PvP in a game with instances or find PvP or no PvPers enjoy it. It's a different kind of PvP though, though largely I think the problem of these games is their combat systems anyway. Obviously every WoW player is going to rage about and not understand full looting, he has to work hard to get gear that makes him good in WoW. The best full loot/full pvp games don't rely on gear like that, so it doesn't matter as much. Of course people like that who still rage when they lose some experience would probably not like losing gear that's basically worthless either, but it's still not as bad as they think.

I can't remember considering any death system in the dozens of mmos I've played "hardcore"

People like games without instancing because it's more realistic, it's also more like an actual MMO. The hallmark of MMO's was supposed to be an open persistent world, but people including the people who make them, seem to think it just takes persistent gear. It's so bad now that even games that are a 3rd person shooter/action game where you join a server with other people to fight (like any counterstrike type game) are called MMOs just because you can dress your character up. Joining a server in that way is just like joining an instance in an actual MMO.

Most people who don't like instances don't like it because it hurts pvp. At least I can't think of a reason to care about it from a PvE standpoint, unless you're lonely and want people around to talk to. If you've never played a game without it and full pvp, or you don't like pvp, or you're a wuss so you died once and still cry about it, you wouldn't get it. Sure I bet some players just like killing lower level ones, so what? Is that supposed to be worse than enjoying killing the same weak AI monsters over and over until you get something shiny? And they are weak. The best games like this aren't heavily gear or level based anyway.

It's about freedom, and that obviously comes with risk, if you're scared of risk in a game there's plenty of other games for you to pick without any freedom or risk.

I'd say Ultima Online as a good thing I liked, and Everquest as one I didn't like that every MMO following seemed to take all the crap I didn't like from. Ultimately though, you're all to blame.

It shouldn't be applied to any game, if you can't control how long you play a game I don't care if you die.

Pretty much every game company is like that, they always act like their game is the best thing ever.

Lightsabers are only really cool because they can cut through almost anything, no game has or will have ones like that.

How is this even somewhat annoying? Unless you just can't stand the idea of people buying gold with real money, and even then better reporting won't fix it.

I can't really agree with your experience, in every game I've played MMO or otherwise people talk far too much despite never having anything interesting or important to say.

I know Razor lets you, but if you're playing the pay shards I'm not sure what their opinion is on third party tools.

Most MMO's work that way, they normally won't charge until the next payment is needed though, so you can just cancel before your free month is over.

It's not really that amazing for a game to have tons of people beta testing it, especially since any problems can be explained away with "it's beta".

Okay, just tell them to put out a free trial so people who aren't rabid fans already can try it.

You won't find real PvP in any modern MMO.

Do you really need direction that much? Almost all of you probably went through school, went to college without even thinking about it, and then got a normal job and married to some random girl and had kids. And anyone still in school will probably just do the same thing.

Then you buy some game where you don't have to worry as much about long term consequences, and "waah someone tell me what I should do, I have no imagination I just follow the crowd".

I've been in tons of open betas despite having never pre-ordered a game and not having any subscriptions to sites like fileplanet. It's fine if you don't agree that it's lame, but you don't have to make shit up about this being how it always works.

When I first tried the trial and saw the skill system I thought "Wow what a awesome idea for a MMO that charges monthly."

Doesn't WAR have gender restrictions on some classes? I haven't been following it, but I thought it did for some reason.

Anyway, I'm sick of seeing this issue come up, it's only a big deal if you make it a big deal (which you're doing). If someone gives you shit call them a loser and move on, because it doesn't matter at all. Real girls deal with annoying people hitting on them all the time as do some guys. Suck it up, file it in your brain under "things I probably shouldn't do" and move on.

As to everyone else, there's NOTHING to understand about it. That guy in the game is not you and will never be you, it's a game, and whether or not the polygons resemble a guy or a girl is irrelevent. People who care about this are probably the same people who force me to mute them when there's a girl in the group.

Why did you pre-order WAR if you're sick of MMOs?

It didn't show how in depth the crafting system would be, it didn't  show the supposed 500 skills that are supossed to be in the game, it didn't show the dungeons, it didn't show the quests, it only showed mobs for a few seconds.

95% of the video was player characters bashing each other. That part looked pretty good. But there still is a lot of stuff we didn't see. So it definately wasn't the best video ever.

Well that is the main reason people want to play this game, god forbid they know their target audience.
