A successful SWTOR is bad for the industry
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/02/12 5:36:19 PM
I like SwToR and can see the potential the game has for the next few years. I also am a person that has loved sandbox mmos in the past. My life has changed and I dont have the time I used to to sit down for hours on end to play a game. SwToR allows me to play when I'm able and not feel useless. Would I have liked swtor to be swg2 ..... sure, am I endlessly disappointed....no. I still would like to see a game that is an actual living breathing world that allows me to live within it. I would prefer scifi because i am sick of trolls and elves. There are game companies out there still making new styles and such but no one and I repeat no one has made anything innovative in the genre since the mmo market first began. Some day someone will get the whole living breathing world thing and make a game that is truly that. Unti then I will enjoy playing swtor because at present it is what I enjoy. I do sort of see what your saying op.

So, what's next in the revenue model, lifetime subs?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/21/11 5:08:50 PM
Well if Cryptic managed to sell more than they ever dreamed of lifetime subs for Champions (because of beta access to STO) for 299.99 then I'm gonna say SWToR should probably be in the $350 range. |

Star Trek Online: Exclusive: Jack Emmert Talks Klingons
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/17/09 11:48:16 PM
I feel better that Jack came clean for why this is happening. I have faith in Cryptic. I also like that he said that they'll listen to the player base for direction... Overall I am not as upset as I thought I would be. The mere fact that this is a Star Trek game and an mmo leads us to unlimited possibillites over time. This can become one awesome game over the next couple years and well into the future.

Group-lovers: the REAL freaks in the MMO world...?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/09/09 10:55:15 AM
A few years back (2005 I think) I was in a hardcore raid guild in EQ2, we raided nightly from 6-7pm until 1-2am. At that point in time I would have agreed then that raiders should have the best. Now however as I am a little older and life a lot busier I am unable to raid like that and have changed my opinion to soloer's need love too if the developers wish to get their money. I am simply unable to raid like I used to but have not lost my love for mmorpg's. Maybe raiders could have a little better stuff, but just barely. EQ2 had a set of legacy quests (i think thats what they were called) that gave you a lot of the must have items in game, now for some parts of those quests you needed a group but a large part of each very lengthy quest chain was soloable. Maybe this is an approach devs could keep in mind. The point is I want to be able to have some of the games better gear and I pay the same money every month that everyone else does, so should I be punished because I have a busy life? Jobs, wives, kids and other things take priority over sitting in front of my computer 10 hours a day, however I am still able to play 3 or 4 nights a week for a couple hours a night, do I not deserve to have nice gear in my chosen game? If the mmo company wants my money I had better be able too. Just my thoughts as an older gamer.

If Dragon Age was an MMO... my God!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/07/09 9:09:47 AM
The only games I have played that were not mmo's over the last few years are: Fallout 3, Fable 3 & Mass Effect. Dragon Age is by far the best. In fact I just woke up, checking all my mmo sites whhile I have coffee then it'll be back to DA:O. Awesome game....no other way to describe it.

Actually that post is over a month old and he has since recanted that statement. However they have said that paid beta keys will be amongst the first to get in....eventually. I'm a lifetime subber here and still no invite....so waiting patiently.

Champions Online: Free Respecs for Early Start Characters
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/03/09 6:36:25 PM
Well as upset as I was about the patch at least this shows their starting to listen to the players. I'll be sticking with the game because it is a lot of fun and I have had a blast with character creation, you can literally get caught up creating your toon and then notice that you've just spent 45 minutes creating him /her. Have to to say this is such a breath of fresh air from fantasy games. Champions Online get a 8/10 from me.

Part of the reason for limited number of sub - specials was to limit the number of people that would be garaunteed beta access to STO. Why is everyone on the MMORPG forums so negative lately. It seems like everyone hates everything. OMG this game SUCKS anyone who plays it is a complete loser......blah blah blah. I remember joining these forums a few years back and really enjoying coming here for info on my prefered style of gaming....MMO's. Over the past few months maybe a year it seems like everyone here either has an agenda because THEY are playing the best game and all others suck , or because only THEY know what the best games are going to be and the rest of us are clueless. Can these people really be that angry at the world? Did someone cut off their meds? Why can't we come here and discuss intelligently the pros and cons of different games. Let's get these forums back to what they were intended to do. Help shape a community and hopefully have a small impact on what gaming companies think and consider when designing their next game. Flame away.

I was hardly romantising drugs...considering I've never used them. I was meerly trying to point out Biowares tactic or approach to gaming and the effects there methods are having. Are you saying that anyone who ever used the term evercrack was a drug user? Adolescent? I'm 40 so not sure how you worked that out. Can you say forum troll?

It is absolutely important. How many of us click through the npc wall of text crits as fast as possible so we can get to the next step of the quest. I know that when some epic quests were voiced I actually listened to the entire thing and really enjoyed those quests. I often found myself often wishing the next quest was more of the same, only to be dissappointed to be clicking away frantically to get to the next step. I for one am looking forward to them drawing us into their world. Now that certaining doesnt mean I can live without all the other elements I also love about MMOs. Lets just hope Bioware doesnt forgo them.

First we had Evercrack.....now, Biometh. If people thought Everquest was to gamers what crack was to junkies ...well Bioware the entire company is our new drug. Thats the feeling you get once you`ve gotten over an addiction to Mass Effect, only to realize that Dragon Age is just down the street at the next corner. A little further down the road they`ve gotten Mass Effect 2. Then on the other side of town they`ve got all the fancy lights ready for their next big party to introduce us to TOR. Upon completing Mass Effect I realized they really do get you with the story driven elements of their gameplay. I could hardly wait to play the game again and again untill it was complete. Even then I went through the game again making different choices at different points I felt to be significant. They really pull you into the game world they set out before you. Dragon Age looks even more fantastic than Mass Effect. Let us all not forget that Mass Effect 2 is coming soon. Now Bioware is entering the MMO market only to bring us their addictive drug all day long, ever day of the week, ever week of the year. Welcome to the world of Biometh. Tread carfully friends for you may be the next junkie. I love Bioware.
