Originally posted by wrekognize Grinding is ALWAYS an option, no matter what the game is like (questing or otherwise). You don't have to follow the quests to get to the end-game. Hell, back in the day, there were leveling guides for WoW where grinding was the quickest, preffered leveling option for those who wanted to level quickly. It may not be the same now, but if you prefer grinding mob after mob rather than doing quests, the options is ALWAYS available to you, whether a slower option or not. It's in no way "nearly impossible" to grind levels today. Or, it's no harder to grind through levels today than it was to be FORCED to grind through levels for years back in the day. If you can't stop yourself from questing, then it means the questing is more fun than grinding. Period. |

The MMO design that the OP talked about has pretty much everything listed that would make me NOT want to play, and NOT have fun. While I will agree that instancing should be done away with to a degree, and I would like a castle siege, wars, etc., I absolutely disagree with grinding levels for years... it's more boring than anything instancing or quick leveling has ever done for the genre. If you're gonna force someone to grind for eternity to an endless level cap, or even one that takes years, you might as well just remove levels entirely. Maybe have skill points given based on achievements in the game along with gear, but not actually have a number attached to it. That way people who didn't start playing for a year after their friends won't have to ONLY GRIND for a year just to play with them... and when I say grind for a year, I mean possibly years, because that first friend wouldn't have just stopped because of his friend joining. And in all honesty, I don't have the time to get to max everything in a month on ANY game at the moment. We don't all have infinite time to play like you do apparently. :P I have no problem with certain gear being incredibly hard to obtain. That's for the people who want to be the best of the best, but there should always less exciting, slightly worse gear that is available to those who don't feel like putting in the time and effort on that, and want to do other things. Ehh, I'm done. On a final note: MMO's today are NOT single player games with chat options. They're only single player games if you want to solo through everything to max level and then completely stop, or reroll. There are always going to be plenty of opportunities for social interaction, but it's up to the player if they want to participate. Some people are completely anti-social and prefer not to group, while others are grouping all the time. Oddly enough, it's those anti-socials who don't even try that end up complaining about MMO's being "single player with chat options." |

They both came out at the same time, they're both AAA, they both cost a mint, they both features VO stories...

It's really not near as bad as you think. Back on topic: Skyrim is a better game, I suppose. But why bother bringing it up? Skyrim and SWTOR are two entirely different genres. Just because Skyrim has an MMO feel with VO acting doesn't mean anything because it's a single player game, so there's a lot of technical hurdles, situations, limitations, etc., that SWTOR would have to go through simply because of it being online, having a large amount of people running around rather than one, etc. So, this entire thread is pointless, like 90% of the threads on this site. |

Originally posted by Durray On this forums I simply advise fellow PvP'ers caution there is exceptionally little. I don't know about exceptionally little... seems to be right on par with the standard PvP for theme park MMO's. 3 Warzones (Battlegrounds) with more on the way, that can be done from level 10 and up. There's worlds like Alderaan with overlapping Empire/Republic areas for plenty of pvp on pvp servers, not to mention an area that is specifically for FFA PvP and will flag you whether on a pvp server or not. There a planet in the later levels that is entirely for pvp as far as I've been told. I'm sure there's some pve objectives thrown in, too, but meh. Seems fine to me. I can't see how a pvper couldn't roll on a pvp server and find a load of it. But I'm more into pve with some pvp on the side, so I guess it wouldn't matter as much to me. Either way, "exceptionally little" seems to be an exaggeration. |

Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/24/12 11:45:30 AM
... but I can't get into any of the content after that. I've played for the last month and I've gone through almost every starting class multiple times to try the advanced classes and the same thing happens every time... I do a few Warzones (which are fun those first few times, then become stale), do the first Flashpoint, grind through Coruscant or Dromund Kaas, if I even get through it, get bored. I got to the space combat on a few occasions and that was fun for like a half hour. I'm trying soooooo haaaaard to get into the game. lol I guess joining a guild could improve things if I got to know people, but I've been in a couple and every time there always seems to be someone that's my class talking about stuff happening in the story not far after I am and killing whatever motivation I have to continue that. The game isn't bad, and the graphics are great (Coruscant is amazing), but even after taking a break from MMO's for almost a year, this wasn't quite as refreshing an experience as I was hoping for. lol I think it's more my problem since most of it is similar to other MMO's out there, which I was already burnt out on. The first couple times I ran Esseles or Black Talon was fun as hell, though, as were the starting planets. There doesn't seem to be any long-term grab for me, though. :( I'll keep trying as long as I have access though, since I did just renew for another month anyway. |

its a singleplayer game with multiplayer aspects .....
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/09/12 1:42:05 PM
OP: It's actually quite the reverse. It's an MMO with single player aspects. Your character has a story like in a single player game, and it's told like in one, but it's small part of the overall design. There are lots of other players around. There are lots of Heroic areas where people have to come together to complete it. Flashpoints Warzones Operations Ilum open world PVP Etc. You can choose to play this game as single player if you want, but you'll be missing out on so much of the game. Yes, I realize the OP was not being negative about the game, but personally, just the title itself is negative to me because it's misleading and in no way accurate. It's as single player as the person playing wants to make it. If you're completely anti-social, sure, it's a single player game. Otherwise, make lots of friends, and do lots of stuff together and it's no longer single player. Which is how it should be. Anyway, moving on. This horse has been beaten to death one too many times. |

Seriously, this is almost unbelievable.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/08/12 11:18:35 AM
Hm... personally, I don't have any issue with this stuff. SWTOR is no better or worse than any other MMO for this stuff, imo, and the places really don't feel 'dead'. Could be better, but could be worse. Sounds to me like you played Skyrim and confused it with an MMO and are basing opinions on that. |

Would anyone really fall for something so obvious? I meant, look at the grmamar: "Note that you can choose to ignore this message if you ignore this message, you will not get to our surprise gift for you." I mean, it seems so professional. Just remember guys: You can choose to ignore this message if you ignore this message, but you will not get to their surprise gift. :( |

Originally posted by xion12121 It's as social of an MMO as you're personally willing to make it... That is what an MMO is about. Don't blame the game for your own anti-social tendencies. Your one argument you posted here isn't even an argument, nor accurate. To answer your question, though, I'll be paying the $15 monthly fee, as well as many others. |

I thought the OP was being sarcastic with the title at first, and I was about to read a hate thread. I was surprised. |

Most poorly executed launch in mmo history.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/17/11 9:32:16 AM
Originally posted by adam_nox [mod edit] It's a small minority of people who complain on forums compared to those just chillin' and playing when they can play. Yes, there have been a few issues, but nothing that should be overexaggerated as the "worst launch in MMO history." Some games were unplayable for weeks until they sorted things out. Most people are in and having an awesome time with very few problems. The queues are an issue they hopefully work out soon, but I'd rather a queue to the game being down entirely with no chance to play at all. This isn't the worst launch ever; this is the worst launch you're experiencing RIGHT NOW. And from the title of this thread, I have a feeling you're quite new to MMO launches. |

Yep I have to agree worst launch ever!!!!! Bioware haven't got a clue!!!

Originally posted by warmaster670 Originally posted by warmaster670 It wasn't entirely his fault because this Tesco company did have the early access advertised, did they not? Just because it wasn't on BW's list doesn't mean that everyone is going to be in the know about such things. If Tesco couldn't supply, then they shouldn't have offered it for sale with all the pre-order bonuses. This is not the OP or BioWare's fault. The blame lies completely with Tesco. |

Originally posted by kevjards You've definitely been had. I just don't think you're placing the blame with the right company is all. But it's all good, plenty of games out there. Good luck. :) |

Originally posted by kevjards Sorry OP, but this sounds more like a problem with your shoddy third-party retailer than BioWare. First off, this Tesco place took your money and should have been on top of this situation from the get-go, not passing the blame to BioWare/EA. I highly doubt that BW/EA "couldn't be bothered" to send out access codes and games to people who are purchasing them. Personally, I'd be more upset at Tesco for having done the transaction at all without being able to follow through. But I guess they bought you off so you wouldn't be upset with them, so whatever. Anyway, enjoy not enjoying the SWToR experience! |

Delayed Launch Unfair To Guilds
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/15/11 8:02:53 AM
Originally posted by thedealerx They're putting guilds on separate servers and they're opening up new servers on launch day. So what if there are one or two guilds at the moment who have swelled their ranks? There are plenty of other people out there who are wanting to make guilds or are guildless. There will never be an end to the supply of people looking for guilds. Especially since a lot of people aren't even in-game yet, and there are plenty of people who are going to be purchasing the game in the future. 'Nuff said. |

What was the point of the pre-order if this is the case.
