Well it looks like I am not the only one struggling to get back in - It takes a day for them to respond to each email and when they do they don't give you the whole story.

Now I'm up to them asking to call me to reset everything if I can supply more information to prove I am me.

Problem is:

I'm not in the US ( Couldn't you have picked that up from my email address and the fact that you should have this info on my account.....)

Yeah - Like I still have the original debit card I used 3 years ago to purchase the product.

Yeah - Like I still have the original install key 3 years after the event now you have moved to a download of client

It seems I am not the only one suffering these problems  (See the Cryptic forum....)

Would it be wrong for me to suggest that this is a precursor to the game being closed for Cryptic players or is that me just being paranoid???

You know what really gets my goat about this is that I still haven't heard back on how to reset my password and this isn't mentioned anywhere else on any of the Cryptic / Perfect World / Star Trek Online web sites / portals / support pages / forums etc...

Who is going to go to the Cryptic website home page or news page when you have an issue with a specific game when you have quick links to "support" ??????

I mean if I haven't come here then I wouldn't know what was going on...

Are they like $OE and have something bigger to hide and this is just enough to cover them ?

On another note they ask us to be vigilent regarding email / bank statements etc but this happened over 15 months ago - the damage is surely done by now ???? !!!! ????

What about all the locking of threads that criticize advertiser's products and refering them back under one gnereic "catch All" sticky?

 

I would ask if this site is run from America or somewhere else - I am from the UK and we have issues over Free Speech here whereas I still think the US has the First Amendment ??? (please feel free to correct me if I have the Admendment selection incorrect)

Free speech applies only in a public place.  When you are using this website you are in a private space.  I encourage you to walk into your neighborhood McDonalds and start spouting off political views, hold up signs, etc and see how long until they escort you off their private property.

While we are bound to uphold your civil rights (like allowing people of all ethnic backgrounds, etc) we do not have to grant you freedom of speech...no more that I have freedom of speech at your dining table.

I always found this angle amusing. You have free speech but not in private property. So seeing as in countries like US where private corporations own almost everything then there is no real free speech is there?

 This is why you see picketers and protesters on sidewalks, parks, etc.  It would be pretty unconstitutional to allow these people to protest inside another persons private space that they own or pay rent for.  Are you saying you would not mind it if I walked into your home and started spouting off my views and the law required me to be able to do that and you could not make me leave?

If you want to express your views online you can make your own website and do so - THAT is freedom of speech as is protected by the constituion.

My home and a public internet forum is not the same, not by a long shot. So obviously going to people's homes, without their consent, should not be allowed.

And freedom of speech is not an exclusive US invention. It is mentioned in the UN declarations of human rights and interestingly it does not say that private corporations are exempt. I know that in US you hold private corporations sacred but most other countries hold freedom of speech even more sacred.

Once you go down the road of saying that freedom of speech is a right but not in this place and that place and only in some cases, then you are on a slippery slope.

 In the US - Freedom of Speech allows you to say anything - and I mean anything.  Racism, rape, torture, molestation - you can make a website about any of these topics and the government cannot take it down, unles you are directly using it to commit a crime.

Are you trying to tell me that we should allow people to talk about the above things freely at MMORPG.com?  No.  This is a privately owned forum and we get to decide the rules.

And I don't even think in the UK you could hold a protest in the lobby of a corporate office complex.

Yes you can - A organisation "being open to the public by its very nature of inviting them in to do business" (Look up Public House aka Pub) then opens itself up to protest or the serving or excuction of papers ?

If the management feel that there is an issue over safety or trespass then they can ask for the police to remove the potential offender.  The police have to tread very carefully here - Please look up the so called "Fortnum "Riots"" so see where they went wrong on this.

I would say that :

A) MMORPG have been open and prepared to enter a dialogue over this but there is a danger that everything is now going off topic so as Original Poster I would ask that all these Freedom of Speech responses now stop - If you wish to discuss this please post your own topic on this in the relevant forum.

B) Can we please go back to discussing getting the topioc back online with how much the site may or may not be out of date ?

Okay People - I didn't mean for this to become a whole positional Freedom of Speech PoV.

We have issues in the UK with websites "editing" or "locking" posts that the editors do not agree with.

My thought was that as long as the post is not offensive to any people, colour, religion, creed or anything else that might break the US Consitional Law then surely it should be seen as feed back to the vendor in question.

We just want to play goods games and I am sick of playing clones or poor quality / unfinshed / unsupported ones.

 

What this is more about is a while back we decided to try and improve our reputation of being the website where everyone came to trash on games.  It just made our forums have this dark negative cloud hanging over them and it drove away fans of games that came here to interact with fellow players of a particular game - what we had instead what a bunch of angry players hijacking topics and filling up the forums with hate posts.  This is just not a very welcoming enviornment for new users or people that actually like the game everyone is trashing on.

While I take on board your other comments in this post which I can't comment on does this not strike to the heart of the whole MMORPG space that people comment on bad games that just copy the next best seller????

I used to love to play SWG until WoW was released.......

I was under the impression that the only way to get things improved was to complain about them ???

While I understand your comments - You have to admit that Ad people will only place ads where they think it will benefit their product and ads must be a big part of your revenue stream ???

Seriously - I don't understand it....

I haven't played SWG for at least 4 years now buit like a moth to the flame I am drawn back....

I get annoyed at adverts for games on the television (Hey Kids - Wanna know what Grandpa did before the Internet...) saying "not game content"

Jeez - Why am I here - Do I want my game back ???

Or is this the last Hurrah before we all think of something different to do ???

In answer to the last two posts:

Perhaps I was being a little naive in  thinking that this website was expressing the thoughts of the MMORPG playing world...

(But then I thought that this was the biggest / fairest forum on MMO on the Net?)

But it just seemed like the last couple of post I made had stirred up a lot of talk about the poor state of the MMO world / this website / MMO implentations etc.

So I had hoped that some dev's etc would come out of the woodwork (perhaps anonymously ) to say what was going on behind closed doors.

I fully understand the comments that they don't have to listen to us or implement our thoughts / requests / game ideas  (Although it is a little strange that a company that wants to sell games doesn't listen to at least some of it markets....)

But there we go - I asked for comment - none came - Everyone is free to make their own minds up.

Is the future cookie cutter instance repeat until dead (virtual or in real life...) or is someone going to break the mould ??

It's the best solution; no-one can deny that it completely axes camping/killstealing.

I don't see why people are so opposed to instancing; it solves a few problems and has no tangible downside. Or "Dude Alt No 2 - We know you wiped out the dirty space aliens intent on turning your Mum / Girlfriend / insert significant other in to goo yesterday at Space Station Whatever when you were learning the game but... Hell the dirty little critters have turned up again and we were caught with our pants down again - Humanity needs you Dude "

3.  What??? - Soooo 500,000 people get the same quest from the same quest giver and there is no race to the Magic Sword of Blah or the Super Cronic Blue Flashly Light I even put my hand on the hilt and you gonna die Sucker Pistol / Long range rifle / Small Nuclear Device / Noisy Cricket (Insert Weapon of choice / class / genre / whatever - we've got your money) - Where's the realism ???????????????????????????????
